Bam Bam/Pequeno Damian hair match

didn’t get a chance to recap FSE tonight, but did get a chance to clip this (and the Espanto Jr. appearance). Quite the finish.

  1. the best part is you think he’s dead for sure, for all time, and Mini Damian’s all “nah, let’s REALLY be sure”

  2. WOOOOOOOOOOHOO! I was just trying to figure out what I’m gonna watch at work tomorrow so this will do just fine!

  3. Cool seeing Espanto Jr. with La Sombra. La Sombra is really getting better, and seems to have more charisma these days. Those white shirts that “V Jr.” and Sombra wear to the ring look cool, and I wonder if they’re custom made or sold outside the venues?

The finish was a little scary.

  4. Yeah… that was… WOW. Pequeno Damian basically MURDERED HIM… brought him back to life for a split second… ONLY TO MURDER HIM AGAIN. Can we get Steve Sims on the jury so Damiancito can get acquited?

Pretty good match although it would have helped if the fans had reacted to any of the nearfalls or even the near submissions. That’s what happens when you change the style so much… the crowd doesn’t even blink an eye at the average submission attempt.

Boy the barber looked so uncomfortable doing his promo. Then Pequeno Damian goes and cuts Bam Bam’s hair himself! Does that mean the barber doesn’t get to increase his #?

  5. Same thoughts on the lack of crowd heat, seems that they’ve learn that nearfalls don’t count unless a foul is involved.

  6. I did want to also mention I was shocked this aired in full. Has that ever happened on FSE?

  7. I thought the crowd heat picked up a little in the final fall. It always does. And the crowd looked larger than normal.

FSE appeared to have plenty of time, so that’s probably why we got the entire match. The first match on tv went two falls, so that helped. It also appeared that the second/last fall of the opener was joined in progress, leaving more tv time to the hair match.

  8. Attendances has been up for Coli because neighborhood guys used to go there on Tuesdays, but now they can only attend to the Sunday show. CMLL running Tuesdays and at a very cheap deal has made it’s dent on the Friday’s shows as well.

  9. I can’t wait to see the neighborhood around Coli. I just remember not being able to get there by metro.

Did you see pics on byl of LA PARK in Houston in front of 350?

What topic did Rob rant in English on byl? Want to see it.

  10. Sorry, I just saw that you called me out there, to be frank, I just browse the topics and rarely enter the threads, there’s not really much info besides the usual flaming around. I think that’s the thread with Rob’s comments, although is difficult to keep track when lots of guys open exactly the same thread during a day.

I think Houston was alright compared to spending 500,000 euros to get likewise gates in Spain. Well, I checked them again and they suck, I guess it would be alright for being Park alone but with expensive Sagrada and Rayo (the taco store made its day with those three on town, I guess they can go on vacation for the rest of the year) it seems week. It sounds like if San Jose alone drew more than the whole CMLL Spain tour, so one would expect lucha libre to do decent in the States but maybe TV does have something to do.

The dumb thing about all those bashing posts in ByL is that they don’t really come forward and say why they don’t like something, I mean, I like CMLL, all of my favorite guys are there, but I can’t help to complain about them doing turns left and rights without any sense or rhyme, that’s what I don’t like, but in los foros it’s just “this sucks” “that’s shit”, etc…

  11. i could not find the rant, and everyone is giving me the silent treatment for yesterday’s stuff.

AAA has always had success when running with legit promoters in the US. They are supposedly looking at Hammerstein Ballroom, UIC Pavilion, Dorton Arena in Raleigh for a tour. CMLL has never done big business abroad, especially in the US.

Most of the success is always because of the local promoters, 10 years ago, Caesar Johnson had a huge run over here and it didn’t have to do with neither CMLL nor AAA and they didn’t even had TV (although Parka was still hugely popular). Local promoters have their ear close to the ground and they know what their fans want (which is sometimes totally different to what happens on scree, ie, Santo rudo turn).

I heard someone complaining about the AAA’s jumpers saying that they were jumping away because some indy (and new) promoters are offering them lots of cash, but the old and traditional promoters have been left out, Cubs mentioned about an apparent fallout between Olimpico Laguna and CMLL, which seems to be the case, CMLL’s guys are out of reach for them these days. AOL can survive on their own, but many smaller indy guys will surely suffer on the long run, if many of the local promoters are driven out of the business in favor of guys who only put a big show once every 3 months, there’ll be a lack of new guys in a time (well, to be fair, maybe that’s what CMLL wants). In that scenario, AAA going out of business could be a fatal blow even to CMLL.

  13. I always thought Cesar Johnson had tv, because Multimedios was leasing 45 to Televisa as a Galavision affiliate. But that’s irrelevant. His run was legendary. Like Joel Goodhart in Philly or something.

    Thanks for the link.

  14. There was no Galavision over here at the time. But I don’t know if they had TV or not, I just suppose it since I don’t think the videos are floating around…

Even more impressive is that the run started at least during 97, which was a pretty lousy year for lucha elsewhere with little of note going on (and many of the best talent-and young- gone).

  15. Multimedios was definitely the Cadena 9 affiliate in Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa(54) at the time. but I don’t know how much Lucha they had at the time. Were you living in NL at the time?

  16. Nope, I’ve been here just for a couple of months.

BTW, there’s an English speaking sub board in elmartinete, but while the idea is fine, the execution is worst thing ever, I mean, 99% is WWE-Indys-Japan and only 1% about Mexico, why would someone who speak English visit that board and post there if there are a zillion other places to do so in English? They should have set rules to have threads only about Mexican Lucha Libre.
