08/20: Televisa, ENESMA, Puebla, NL, Mexico

(SuperLuchas) WWE will announce they’re moving to Televisa on 09/09. Obviously, this will start a domino effect; I doubt AAA is going anywhere but things sure seem to have been sketchy between CMLL and Televisa already. I don’t think this is going to change things tommorow, but next time you’re looking at video feeds, perhaps you should see if there’s a TV Azteca one handy.

ENESMA (FRI) 08/15 Arena Neza [the Gladiatores]
1) Bracito de Plata & Coquito Negro DQ Mascarita Sagrada & Voladorcito
2) Insecto, Principe Celeste, Sobre Dosis vs Luis Cirio, Manny Cirio, Tony Cirio
3) Black Thunder, Cazador, Skayde b Black Spirit, Metal Boy, Turbo
4) Kung Fu Jr., Principe Azteca, Soberano Jr. b King Haku, Macabro, Semental
5) Enfermo Jr., Gran Markus, Hijo de Gran Markus b Canek Jr., Dos Caras Sr., Huracan Ramirez
6) El Hijo del Solitario, Mil Mascaras, Tinieblas Jr. b Cien Caras Jr., El Dandy, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000

ENESMA already has TV, and this show was taped. The return of ENESMA – who’s last scheduled show was June 2005 – is so random, I think this happened in the opposite fashion. AYM Sports probably wanted an hour of lucha libre, probably could get Mil themselves, and started calling around to see who’d be willing to put on a show. I have no proof of this, but it makes more sense than ENESMA magically appearing after three years and miraculously getting at TV deal.

The third match was a lot of Turbo and Skayde. Don’t know what’ll make air.

Arena Neza has gone back to be an independent building. (Poor Ramstein.) No one seems to stick with the building long term. I’ve heard good things about the fans there, but never about the building and area itself (remember, this was the arena that was being used for drug money laundering by the owner back in the early part of the decade.) People keep trying here, so it must be attractive enough to try but not rewarding enough to stay.

CMLL (MON) 08/18 Arena Puebla [hugo999 & CHICAHEAVY @ box y lucha]
1) Asturiano, SWAT, Toro Bill Jr. b Aguila Guerrera, Espiritu Maligno, Karisma
2) Bronco III, Semental, Siki Ozama b Ángel Azteca Jr., Black Tiger, Hijo del Faraon
3) Grey Shadow, Mictlán, Sagrado b Ephesto, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero b Dr. Wagner Jr., Marco Corelone, Shocker
5) Blue Panther b Último Guerrero

AAA (MON) 08/18 Arena Cuatro Caminos de Nuevo Laredo [el manana: main, semimain]
1) Alan Stone, El Elegido, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Escorpion Negro Jr., Rio Bravo, Tito Santana II
2) Jack Evans & Teddy Hart b Crazy Boy & Ultimo Gladiador
3) Antifaz, Electro Shock, Escoria b Chessman, Cibernetico, La Parka Jr.

Electroshock made Chessman give up, and the two agreed to a hair match for September 1st here. I am still skeptical of that being a TV taping.

indy (MON) 08/18 Palenque Expomex, Nuevo Laredo [superluchas]
1) Estrella Universal & Sobredosis b ? & ??
2) Hiroka & Mima Shimoda b Diana la Cazadora & India Sioux
3) Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Shu el Guerrero b Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman
4) Canibal Samoano, Joey Mercury, Puma b Averno, Mephisto, Terrible
5) Héctor Garza, LA Park, Volador Jr. b Chris Masters, King Haku, Rob Conway

Most matches, especially the 2nd and 4th, were said to be bad. Third was the best on the show.

CMLL (TUE) 08/19 Arena Mexico [ESTO]
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Trueno ?? Pólvora & Zayco
2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeno Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Axel, Hijo del Faraon ?? Bronco III, Dr. X, Skandalo
4) Grey Shadow, Máscara Púrpura, Volador Jr. b Ephesto, Misterioso II, Vangelis
5) Averno, Mephisto, Villano IV DQ Black Warrior, Sangre Azteca, Último Guerrero

V4 replaced V5, but it made no difference – Ultimo ripped off his mask, challenged him for a mask match at the anniversary show. V4 said yes, but also said yes, he wants a match with Atlantis to avenge his brother, so I don’t buy it too much.

Besides being bald, Bam Bam got hurt in his match.

Luchando Libre previews the women’s relevos increidbles.

SuperLuchas has one two three posts about CMLL in Spain. Sounds like ticket prices were an issue, but then you could probably get away with high ticket prices if everyone wasn’t flooding Spain with shows.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s Tuesday lucha report, and one two three four five six entries of Robert’s lucha writeups.

Wrestling Observer’s FSE recap.

In rockyson‘s pictures, there doesn’t seem to be a single person who’s in the bleachers. The floor is full, but you don’t run in a place with bleachers if you’re content only filling the floor.

TuTv’s “Lucha Libre Bajo Las Estrellas” won 2nd place in NAMIC’s Excellence In Multi-Cultural Marketing Awards. I have not heard of anything in the last sentence before it turned up on Google and wonder what it would be.

While trying to find out more about that, I stumbled upon this blog history of lucha libre in the Dominican Republic. It’s your usual one post and never again blog, but it’s a very long history piece with lots of photos.

  1. Superluchas is saying one show will go to Televisa and the other to TV Azteca, that wouldn’t fit with Keith’s theories, SL has been wrong in lots of things lately so we should not take this too seriously.

Hey Cubs, why is it that I something get “Slow down” messages?

  2. @xuisaw: I read it that SL is not sure which Televisa properties would air the shows. For example, one show on Galavision, another on Unicable, or something like that.

  3. SL is talking about

    http://superluchas.net/?p=5762

“WWE podría estar negociando para quedarse NO CON UNA de las dos principales cadenas de TV en México (Televisa y Tv Azteca), si no con ambas…”

BTW “si no” is wrongly used here…

Obviously, even if they had a source in Televisa, said source wouldn’t know about WWE’s deals with TVAzteca so I’m thinking someone might be pulling their leg… again…

  4. No doubt, WWE is looking for a stronger broadcast partner, since strong tv drives house shows business. And the possibility of adding SKY PPV to their PPV coverage area is attractive. I’m going to guess that it ends up on Unicable, not free tv.

If 52mx loses WWE, I bet they’ll go to two hours with GdR showing the four matches, and make FSE a “resumen” with one exclusive match per week from ArMex. That’s what I would do.

  5. @xuisaw: WordPress apparently has a comment flood control that makes you wait 15 seconds between comments from the same IP. I haven’t run into it – is this happening a lot for you? I could always hack into the code to fix it.

  6. @thecubsfan: I wouldn’t worry about it, nobody needs to hear what Chui has to say within 15 seconds of his last thought.:p j/k!

So someone is recording that ENESMA show, right? RIGHT?

I haven’t read much about the Televisa/WWE situation but I can predict this already: CMLL’s first move to counteract all this will be… to just not air the Friday shows any more. In a promotion that is controlled by guys who were influenced by Lucha back when there was no TV – I can guarantee you they will go with not airing the shows any more, then eventually realizing they are idiots and airing it on C3 or CT (tm Chui) instead of the Tues. Arena Mexico shows then eventually finding somewhere new to show it.

But those few weeks without TV will be hilarious!

  7. @Rob: C3, or Ch.28 is a full-power local station in the Mexico City market. Outside the DF area, it’s on cable. In other words, it’s a superstation, like WGN. If CMLL aired the Friday show on C3, I don’t think it would hurt attendance, since it’s a free tv station.

But I’m betting CMLL is going to air this week on Televisa, run a PPV on SKY in September, and all will be normal.

  8. The thing is that it happens after several minutes, I’ve done several consecutive posts but not in less that 15 seconds! For instance, I got the message in the first post of this entry (giving me the chance to insert the comment about it), and there was no way I would have read the entry and post a response 15 seconds before my previous comment. Maybe it’s something wrong with my settings…

  9. Anyone who thinks Televisa and Azteca are going to share the rights is nuts. Not happening. First thing Mexican people would do is air Smackdown and Raw against each other, and that’s not how WWE would like to do business. The point of leaving 52mx is to build the brand in Mexico, not get caught in the middle of a shit flinging war between two Mexican companies.

  10. I’m not sure Skayde/Turbo could even get me to pick up that show if it does become available. The semi and main sound awful.

  11. So what do you all think of Ras de Lona? I think it’s a step in the right direction as far as telling storylines.

  12. Thanks for the pics. Looks like about 250-300. But the venue looks nice. Shame they can’t get bigger crowds. I think WWE would run there if it was slightly bigger.

  13. Sad to see how low LA Park’s drawing has fallen, even here, where 10 years ago made history with that masks match with Pierroth Jr…

  14. @xuisaw: How was the local publicity? Do you think it’s the promoters fault, or the drawing power of LA Park fading?

  15. I don’t watch much TV, but I guess they did some spots, there were flyiers and posters everywhere, and the newspaper were also giving them lots of coverage (without dropping AAA’s one), actually, the main lucha reporter went to the CMLL show and from what he said, it was business as usual for a CMLL show, I don’t know why they did it on Monday and going toe to toe with the usual 4 Caminos show (which was sold out), there’s no soccer or anything like that over here to make sense them not running shows on Sundays.

And it seems that LA Park appeal has sunk in the last couple of years, incidentally, since his “turn” on Wagner. His December run at ArMex didn’t catch up and he’s probably done with CMLL for now since he’s working with Santo and Naucalpan again at times. I think maybe even AAA not being Parka-ris oriented has also affected Park since lots of people don’t really differentiate them.

  16. Wow. I always thought fans differentiated between the two Parka’s.

Why run on a Monday? Nuevo Laredo = Monday. You can’t change these people’s mindset. Sad.

I think LA Park should drop the mask. But I bet he wants $75,000 or more.

  17. Only the hardcore fans differentiate the Parki, Tapia always complains about having to explain everywhere that he’s not copying AAA’s Parka.

Warrior got about 45,000, LizJr I would say something more than that, rumor has it that both of those combined are not even close to half what Tapia asks for his mask, I think he simply doesn’t want to lose it and would just pitch unreachable numbers, if someone produces it, he’ll ask for more.

Also, the economy is hurting right now, so crowds are bound to suffer or better said, continue suffering for a while, and it will surely get worse.

  18. Parka obviously doesn’t need the money. Have you see that gut of his? He’s obviously in the 6-7 meals a day ratio.

  19. @Rob: LOL. Actually, all the fitness mags say it’s healthier to eat 5-6 smaller meals per day, to keep your metabolism stoked. Por Park.

Still, I would imagine if he got $75,000 that he could pay off his mortgage of something. I can’t see how any company in Mexico can pay six figures since they don’t have the kind of PPV and DVD revs like WWE and TNA, whearas in Mexico, the gate is the only revenue for the mask.

  20. LA Park would laugh at the 75,000 figure, he does that several times through the year and doesn’t have any mortgage as banks don’t give luchadores credit.

Word is Nicho got 25000 for his hair a few years back, you surely don’t think LA Park mask is only worth 3x Nicho’s hair (who was nowhere near a national level star and only recognized in TJ).
