08/17: Mini Damian victorious, results from Spain and China, lineups for Mexico

(Sololuchas, and Superluchas) Mini Damian took Bam Bam’s hair. Title rematch coming up soon.

CMLL (THU) 08/14 Plaza de Toros de Valencia, Spain [ESTO]
1) Astro Boy & Molotov b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) La Máscara b Virus, Flash, Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Nosferatu, Nitro, Euforia [ciber]
3) Arkangel de la Muerte, Damián 666, Mr. Águila b Fabián el Gitano, Máximo, Metalik
4) Dos Caras Jr., Felino, Heavy Metal b Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Olímpico

Heavy Metal worked as a tecnico here. Next show is Monday.

Televisa (SAT) 08/09 Bar Caribe Salsa, Bejing, China [SuperLuchas]
1) Místico b Averno

Mistico’s interviewed in the magazine and is fantastic. Besides the learning Kung Fu parts, he also explains the fact that he was going to do a match in China came to a total surprise to him, and he figured it’d just be something where he showed one of the announcers some holds and such. Instead, and much to Mistico’s total shock and surprise, Averno was his opponent. Mistico explains that Averno flew thousands of miles to China on orders of Perro Aguayo Jr., who demanded revenge for Mistico putting him out of action.

The match itself was held in a bar with about 250 people. They wanted more, but the bar couldn’t fit it and there were security concerns (including having masked men walking around – Mistico was issued security badges for him wearing his mask and him not wearing his mask.) They actually had ropes and corners, but the ‘ring’ was basically a blanket covering the floor. No dives (no room), but Mistico said he improvised and was able to climb the ropes for moves. Referee was a local. It’s Mistico & Averno, so you know the finish. Match was said to be about 25 minutes and Mistico mocks Averno for having to fly all the way back to Mexico as a loser.

Mistico says he was flying back just for the drink show on Saturday, then flying back to China for the rest of the games. Doesn’t sound like he knew he was on the 08/29 card. SuperLuchas lists Mistico as working on Tuesday in Queretaro and Sunday in GDL, so who knows. I’m presuming Mistico does not and does not find that circumstance unusual.

Mistico addresses the boos, saying he’s not going to turn rudo because then people will say he only did it becuase of the reaction. He loves that people appluad, or boo or shout at him and doesn’t want to change. He feels the most booed wrestler in Arena Mexico and the only one who doesn’t make mistakes in his dives. Mistico would only turn rudo if God wanted him to and if Perro Aguayo was turning tecnico, because he wants that match. In fact, since Mistico’s not getting Perro in a hair match this September, he’d rather not main event the Anniversary show.

Go buy the magazine and read the whole thing.

Luchaworld has revamped their webpage. It looks quite nice, and you get plenty of Rob and KrisZ stuff I should be linking to. They’d like you to check out Lucha Libre Racing, a racing team raising money for school supplies. Go buy a shirt.
– RFC says AAA tapes in Nuevo Laredo on 09/01. There was already a 08/31 Monterrey taping announced, and AAA never runs back to back tapings, so I believe the 08/31 is probably off.
– an article about indy lucha libre in Florida includes a wrestler named “Diez Mascaras”. That’s so great, he can’t be the first one to do that.
– “Vampiro: Angel, Devil, Hero” premiered at a film festival in Monterrey this weekend.
– ESTO recaps Friday’s AAA Mexico City taping and thinks Zorro’s going to end up main evening Verano de Escandlo against Cibernetico.
– They’re still promoting Perro Aguayo Jr. in the 09/17 SLP main event. Perhaps they’ll figure it out in the next month.

Lineup

Is Blue Panther facing Ultimo Guerrero or Villano V at anniversary? Actually, maybe they don’t know right now, haven’t heard about V5 except he wants to wrestle naturally. SuperLuchas says UG again demanded to be included into the mask match after yanking off Blue Panther’s mask tonight, so this is follow up to that.

Universo is in because he’s working IWRG on Thursday, I presume.

  1. Nah, Monterrey 8/31 is still on. AAA’s done back-to-back before, the last being 3/18/07 (RdR) and 3/19/07. Monterrey’s big day of wrestling is Sunday and Nuevo Laredo does big shows on Monday so it’s perfect. Hopefully they bring a good crew b/c the last thing you want is back-to-back shows with a bunch of fun guys missing since it’ll cover 2 weeks of TV leading into Verano.

  2. Isn’t Mistico also working next Friday ArMex? So much for a buildup for his return for the 29th, then again, probably no one will know he’s gone with no tv show. I’m still thinking the Televisa vs CMLL situation probably made CMLL pull him out of the Olympics.

  3. I would’ve gone to that Lucha show in Sarasota last night had I known. Now I’m pissed. But it sounds like they run monthly so I’ll try to catch them next time.

  4. Aw man… RFC is teasing he knows about the main event for 9/1. I predict… Chessman, Aero Star, Ciber vs Jack, Teddy and Zorro.

  5. @xuisaw: Let’s see, CMLL and SKY(Televisa) have a PPV coming up, and they’re fighting and pulling episodes that are already starting to build to it. I just find it funny that when Televisa does not air the Friday show, Cadena Tres does. That would be like WWE airing Smackdown or RAW when it does not air due to sports or something. I’m beginning to think CMLL and Televisa don’t even have a deal, and are working week-to-week.

  6. No one has said August 29 will be a PPV. Even if things were alright between them, three weeks latter they’ll run a bigger show and maybe the following week an even bigger one, do you think SKY would want to run 3 PPVs in a month and compete with themselves? In any instance, Televisa doesn’t know or care if there’s any buildup, maybe CMLL is the one buying the PPV slot themselves and maybe it’s true that CMLL buys airtime, I doubt it since AAA has said before that they sell their finished product to Televisa.

Televisa deals with Soccer teams are for 5 years, I wonder if CMLL’s just ran out or if they never had one.

  7. I was only referring to the Anniversary PPV, and was only assuming it will be one. And if it is, you can’t do business like this.

Televisa should care, they own SKY, and generate revenue if the PPV sells.

I don’t think CMLL or AAA pay for the time. I think they get paid little if nothing, and sell the ring apron to generate revenue. And promote upcoming events too. Paying for time is so 1987. Today, only desperate indies pay for time.

Galavision ran spots saying that Accion won’t air for two more weeks. I miss that show.

  8. Then probably the PPVs have been not selling much and SKY doesn’t care about this upcoming one, if the ratings are that low for Televisa to cut CMLL down to one hour, then they might figure out that there’s no demand for the product to make it PPV.

  9. SKY has a little over 1,000,000 subs, so I have no clue how many people bought the last big PPV. At Sportel, SKY said 5,000-10,000 buys. This was in March of 2007, when they said it.

Let’s see if CMLL makes a statement this week regarding the tv situation.

  10. March 2007 was Universo vs Corleone, 5000 is a bit high in my estimation… I doubt CMLL will make a public statement, me thinks it’s the same story as the previous time they were canned.

  11. It might’ve been the Mistico vs. Black Warrior match that did 5,000. That’s less than a .5 buyrate. Was there a December 2006 PPV?

I guess they can still do a PPV with SKY, even if they are not on the air with Televisa.

  12. Watching Wagner/Niebla now (Wagnermania rules), Why does Niebla look like Ricky Ortiz in his entrance? That was random. Oh and Rob, No commentary during the match. And people in the audience doing the “Ciber” chant by chanting “Wagner”. Eat it, AAA.

  13. The OE OE OE Wagner… Wagner… predates Ciber’s at least for a few months, I remember hearing it during a match at Lopez Mateos before the Kagwachi incident.

  14. I would if I had the money. I plan on going to the ROH show in October. Wrestlemania was the first live show i’ve been to in like 5 years.

  15. @Tim: I might go to RoH. I’ll try to hit FCW on Thursday, and FIP on Saturday. TNA in Westbury and Anniversary 75 in September.

  16. does it appear that Ras de Lona is taped at Arena Mexico on Friday, but some voice work done on Saturday before airing?

  17. @luchalibrelive!: two (?) weeks ago, the trios champs were all wearing the same exact clothes as the press conference, so I presume all the interview stuff is done on Thursdays.
