08/16: Mexico, Mistico, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 08/15 Arena Mexico [superluchas, ESTO, Ovaciones , wagnerdesdel92 @ el Maritnete]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Starman, Trueno DQ Calígula, Méssala, Pólvora
2) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori DQ Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) La Sombra, Mictlán, Sagrado DQ Dragon Rojo Jr., Mephisto, Misterioso II
4) Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V DQ Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. b Mr. Niebla [UWA HEAVY]

A lot of DQs, but the story of the night was key injuries. Early on in the main event, Ovaciones reports Niebla fractured his left hand ring finger when taking a slam from Dr. Wagner. Niebla wrestled thru the match in pain and was taken to the hospital after the show. (Wagner retained the title clean with the Wagner Driver.) Finger fractures usually take six to eight weeks to heal, so Niebla will be dealing with this for a while

The semimain ended with Ultimo yanking off Villano 5’s mask, but the bigger story is V5 heading to the hospital with a possible fractured right collarbone. Collarbones typically take four to six weeks to heal, and the anniversary show is five weeks away. Between the finish and the injury, it’s more likely they’re headed back to a multi-man match.

CMLL hasn’t confirmed either injury, so perhaps they won’t be as bad.

Misterioso replaced Averno. Usual Dragon Rojo ripping off Mictlan’s mask bit.

Lady Apache pulled Sujei’s mask for the DQ in the women’s match and almost got away with the pin before being caught.

Starman replaced Angel de Oro, and Caligula yanked Angel Azteca Jr.’s mask to continue that opening feud.

The report on el Martiente says the building was half full.

Dr. Wagner will replace Perro Aguayo Jr. in the Gladiator Drink main event today. This means Wagner’s working as a rudo against Mistico in a trios.

There’s lots of Mistico in Beijing footage up on YouTUbe

Mistico returns again here. UG takes a break to feud with Panther instead of Villano (and instead of those guys feuding against each other). Obviously, cards are subject to change depending on injury status.

  1. UG pulling V5’s mask kind of builds that feud, to explain a multi-mask match at Anniversary. The Niebla injury sounds like something he can work through. Still, I’m against a multi-mask match every year.

No one has posted on byl in nearly 24 hours. Must be a record.

  2. “No one has posted on byl in nearly 24 hours. Must be a record.”

Glad I’m not the only one to notice that…

    “CMLL (THU) 08/21 Arena Mexico”

No show on Friday? WTF? Mistico being back might be the reason or the result of this CMLL-Televisa fallout. It turns out, Canal 2 is the one doing the Olympics coverage and both 5 and Gala have their usual programming so far… I guess a certain popular guy over here is crying Latin Lover’s show got canned…

  3. Sundays GDL main is Gallo/Jindrak/Rayman vs Texano/Misterioso/Niebla. Last weeks show looked real fun.

Doesn’t look like much is happening in next weeks cards. Pretty decent on the whole but nothing to get excited about. Trueno’s making up for lost bookings.

  4. Televisa and CMLL always make up. I really think CMLL would be better off on Azteca 7 and Azteca America. Azteca would not jerk CMLL around on timeslot and running time.

But Mexico City is their most important market, and they have Cadena Tres and 52mx has 700,000 subs there, so they have tv either way. It’s the surrounding markets that they’ll feel it in, because local promoters always want to book people who are on tv.

  5. “Azteca would not jerk CMLL around on timeslot and running time.”

That’s the most hilarious thing I’ve heard in several years…

The weird thing about Mr Niebla’s injury is that he was the one doing the slam on Wagner and ended hurt, I guess that was Los Traumasesque… oh, Trauma, I get it know, getting hurt is their trauma gimmick!!

  6. @xuisaw: Why is it hilarious? Especially since Azteca does not have as much soccer, which is part of the reason CMLL gets dicked around. I think CMLL would get a regular timeslot like Historias Engarzadads or El Mitio do on Azteca. Now more than ever, I’d like to see CMLL leave.

Heck, CMLL has a PPV in just weeks, and there’s a rumor that they won’t air today on Televisa. Today’s episode includes an angle with V5 and UG that is building to the PPV, and fans may not see it. Can’t do business like that.

And the scumbags at FSE like to dick CMLL’s timeslot around too. Meanwhile, the Friday club fights get a regular slot.

  7. Azteca moves timeslots all the time, even Soccer games gets moved around. Santos Laguna has always played Sundays at 16:00, for like twenty something years, but with Azteca, you don’t know if they play at 15:00 or 17:00 or even 18:00 they’ve forced Santos (and other teams but I don0t care for them) to change the time they play to fit their ever revolving programming. And that’s with a live sport, imagine with CMLL which is taped.

A few months back, when Santos made it to the final of the tourney, a couple of days before the game, Azteca came up and said they wanted the game to be played the 20:00, Santos accepted at first but then took it back and played at the usual 16:00 since bus lines don’t run on Sundays after 22:00 and the game was ending after that hour so fans would be stuck there…

Half the teams are on Azteca anyways (Santos, Cruz Azul, Morelia, Puebla, Tecos, Jaguares, Pachuca, and Indios, well, it’s 45%) and they have less channels to air them than Televisa, so CMLL in Azteca would have an even worse slot, and it wouldn’t be fixed. Not to mention that local providers mess with the feed quite a bit.

  8. I can understand Azteca wanting a soccer game to air during prime time. The US networks also try to influence baseball schedules, especially in post-season. That’s business in both countries. But I’d feel better if CMLL had Sat or Sun on Azteca 7, because that’s a safe slot to me.

And as far as Fox Sports, I don’t even know why they want Lucha. Lucha belongs on Azteca, Azteca America, or something like that. Not a sports network.

  9. When you click Programacion on XEJTV, they also show CMLL for 2.5 hrs, and AAA for just 2. So Televisa must’ve told their own affiliates that was the plan

  10. Moving around soccer makes their other programs to change as well, you can’t count on TVAzteca not canning a show for whatever reason, even Disney’s High School Musical reality show only aired on 13 for like 2 weeks before sent to programming hell (7) and never heard of again… if Disney gets this treatment, what can CMLL expect… HSM was lucky, there been shows canceled “for low ratings” after a couple of shows. Televisa will keep CMLL even if ratings keep dropping if only to keep the tradition going… Azteca won’t.

  11. @xuisaw: Surprisingly, XEJTV.com does say CMLL, and AAA, which is unusual, as many grids usually generically say Lucha Libre.

  12. So far, TVGuide is doing right with their programming concerning Gala, what will they air at 16:00? I wonder if Televisa has the rights to air CMLL’s reruns…

  13. Well, if someone on the byl board was at ArMex last night, they would know what it was taped for. The announcers are there doing it “live-to-tape”, so it would be no secret.

  14. Someone at elmartinete said the ct guys were there (we all knew that anyways)

BtW, ENESMA is making its return, joy!!!

  15. ENESMA being back is hilarious. Same washed up crew and unknowns that won’t draw shit but at least it will give Turbo and Black Thunder some more TV matches.

Is there an online feed for AYM Sports?

  16. CT is mostly TVAzteca rejects who were earlier rejected by Televisa… but I’ve not seen the CT show in months so I don’t really remember who they are.

  17. Wasn’t AyM with AULL? If anything, I think ENESMA will help turn Mexico City into another Mty deadland.

  18. There’s a Gustavo Mendoza from Televisa Laguna but I think he’s now with Fox Sports and a different guy. Enrique Sanchez Vera is a radio guy, it seems that CT is mostly a radio station going to TV.

  19. Now for actual comments related to the post rather than those terrible people who hijacked the thread!:P

No surprise that Wagner kept his belt. That family is obsessed with having titles that are only important in their own heads. I love the ElMartinete speculation that b/c Wagner won the title match he’s going to lose his mask next month. I just wish people on that board were gamblers.

The amount of DQ’s is a clear sign we’re heading into September. A half house cannot be a good sign though. Wagner definitely needs help drawing and Mictlan/Dragon Rojo Jr. plus that silly Guerreros Negros deal obviously aren’t helping.

That isn’ the full Sunday GDL lineup but I forget what the main event is right now.

Tuesday: Nice to see the mini’s back! Looks like it’ll be a good match-up as well as Pequeno Universo’s first TV match. They’re certainly booking Bam Bam to make everyone think he’s losing but I’m still torn on who to pick. Who is everyone else picking? Rest of the show isn’t too bad. Tercera could be fun but I still have no idea why Vangelis is getting semi-main event bookings. I probably don’t want to know why either. JLF loves to control the women so it can’t be him but I have no idea about Panico’s personal lifestyle choices. Rudos vs Rudos main could be good if they don’t mail it in.

Friday: Aside from the tercera it seems like a mixed bad. They seem to want to have all the attention on the Aug. 29th stip matches so they split up the feuding main eventers.

I was expecting wider variety of lineups with 1/4 of the roster in Spain but I guess these lineups shows that CMLL really has a big time overloaded roster and can keep booking the same old shit even with 20% of their guys gone.

  20. Wagner has no control over the UWA title, it still belongs to Canek and Canek wouldn’t be wanting to have Mr Niebla with the title since it would give it one twentieth of it’s exposure (although CMLL has been pretty carefully for a couple of years of not showing Wagner’s intro and therefore not giving the title exposure).

I’m not surprised at the half house since CMLL killed any momentum Niebla had from his feud with Abismo by teaming him with uninteresting Casas bros and on top of that, making him second fiddle to Negro who won the trios title. Not to mention that AAA was putting shows in the metro area Thursday and Friday and even CMLL is competing with themselves with a show today.

  21. “Wagner has no control over the UWA title, it still belongs to Canek”

Possession is ownership in the wrestling business.

  22. Canek will never see that belt again with the way Wagner has grown so attached to it. If anything Wagner will give it back and then start wearing a clone of the belt b/c like I said – that family is obsessed with gold titles.

  23. Wagner still thinks Canek will give him his mask so he has to keep the belt to hand him over before the masks match takes place, although it probably won’t happen since no one can put up enough money for Canek to drop the hood.

  24. So Cesar on byl is probably accurate when he says C3 airs last night’s ArMex tomorrow. Who is he that he knows so much and posts?

Does anyone know why Televisa would not be airing CMLL? I don’t see any Olympic games on XEJ or any reason to pre-empt.

  25. SuperLuchas posted the news about C3 airing the show tomorrow at noon and that’s where Cesar got it from.

  26. Did Superluchas say why Televisa is not televising CMLL?

I wish Superluchas would’ve done their convention on Anniversary weekend. This kind of gives me nothing to do on Saturday.

  27. SuperLuchas said it was due to the Olympics. Even if they aren’t airing it, maybe they had their filming crew doing something and couldn’t make it to Friday’s show? I dunno.

Women JIP and over in 2 falls. Why can’t that happen more often?:)

  28. Televisa does not film the Friday shows. It’s 52mx. XEJ is airing garbage, so there was no reason to not air CMLL. Probably more problems again.

  29. Someone at Superluchas blog commented about CMLL being pre-empted because “there’s some friction between Televisa and CMLL” before it was noted on ByL board, by then, the version was “because of the Olympics”

The filming crew for CT, MVS, FSE and Gala is the same one, only announcers are changed.

  30. CAUGHT.

I don’t care what anyone says, I love the new Bronco. I can’t wait till CMLL blows it with him.

  31. I like Faraon Jr. more and more every time I see him.

I hate Leono more and more every time I see him.

I am confused by Mascara Purpura more and more every time I see him.

  32. @xuisaw: It’s MVS that does all three night. This goes back to when MVS was even doing AAA, until the inevitable fallout with Pena.

Superluchas even did a story on the MVS production crew at the Anniversary show last year.

  33. Peña then went and bought his own equipment, “Vicky 1”, but it seems it was a long term arrangement, so probably AAA and Televisa will be tied for a long time until they finish paying the equipment (which is probably a good thing since Televisa won’t dump them because of that). Peña was known for leasing everything from his company for a price, even chairs, light, pyro etc for non lucha events were rented, I wonder if he also had the tv crew up for rent and if they still do for them to make extra cash.

  34. Trivia: Where does the name “Vicky 1” come from?

Now Galavision is showing a movie on XEJ. I wonder if canal 9 is showing the same in Mexico City? Clearly, CMLL not airing today had nothing to do with the Olympics.

  35. Man my head hurts just watching Sombra KO’ing Texanito with the split-legged moonsault finish.

  36. Even with no CMLL main show, the post count is at 49… it seems the show was not missed :P

  37. Pretty disapointing C3 show but the lineup indicated it would be. Main was actually really good aside from the injury.

Tmrw’s a big day! C3 with possibly 4 Arena Mex matches and ALAS DE ORO! YAY!
