08/09: Mexico, lineups, AAA video

CMLL (FRI) 08/08 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, ESTO, superluchas]
1) Metálico & Tigre Blanco b Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skandalo b Fabián el Gitano, Metalik, Tony Rivera
3) Alex Koslov, Felino, Mictlán b Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Misterioso II
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. b Heavy Metal, Terrible, Villano V
5) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero b Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Shocker

Main and semimain had some intermixing of rudos from the three main groups (Guerreros, Perros and Pesta Negra.) It worked well in the main event, where a combined Pesta Negra/Guerreros team once again defeated the tecnicos. This was a two fall sweep, Niebla again pinning Wagner to end it (with a little help from the ropes) and agian demanding a shot at Wagner’s UWA Heavyweight title.

The Perros/Pesta Negra team didn’t go as well in the semimain. Miscommunication helped the tecnicos win. After the match, Terrible & Villano V turned on Heavy Metal and beat him until the rudos from the main event made the save. This allowed CMLL to have Ultimo Guerrero going after Villano V (tease!) and perhaps we’re on the way to a full Pesta Negra/Guerreros merger.

Once again, Mictlan and Dragon Rojo were ripping masks. They appear close to a mask match.

If I had to put my money on it, I think the current plan is

08/15: Niebla vs Wagner for the UWA Title
08/29: Mictlan vs Dragon Rojo Jr. for masks, one of the Casas brothers in a hair match
sounds like Dragon Rojo confirms his match in Super Luchas this week
09/19: Panther vs Villano V
09/26: Niebla vs Wagner in a mask match

but then, plans change. I’m pretty sure I’m safe on the first one (though I did write that out before checking CMLL’s site.)

CMLL (TUE) 08/12 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro & Sombra de Plata vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Goddess, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs La Seductora, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Hijo del Faraon, Leono, Máscara Púrpura vs Bronco, Dr. X, Skandalo
4) Axxel, Mictlán, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. vs Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

I think that’s the first Leono match since June. If you’re wondering how we get a main event rudo side of Mephisto, Terrible and Texano Jr., everyone on the Spain tour should be on the way or there by this show.

CMLL (FRI) 08/15 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Trueno vs Calígula, Méssala, Pólvora
2) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) La Sombra, Mictlán, Sagrado vs Averno, Dragon Rojo Jr., Mephisto
4) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Mr. Niebla [UWA HEAVY]

Naturally, they schedule the title match when they have less people around.

Hart Foundation II discuss what they hate about Mexico. Jack is confused if there’s supposed to be some Legion/Hermandad alliance, and now so am I.
Hermanad promo to build up that match with the Hart Foundation. Note that X-Fly doesn’t appear at all in backstage promo. He’s a MYTH.
Cibernetico is sad about the breakup of the Hell Brothers. Not sad enough to do his promo in under five minutes, but sad. There’s also a Chessman promo at the end, and they tease Charly Manson getting involved in the title match. He’s got to be at Verano de Escandalo.

  1. Pretty weird: Gala has it’s usual programming and not the announced Tiny Toons stuff.

  2. “- Vampiro & Mesias draw. Again. Perhaps by the end of this, they’ll figure out the spot where one guy throws both of them thru a table so it actually looks good.”

Won’t happen. Vamp has never been able to bump properly. Just ask Missy Hyatt.

Casas vs Texano Jr. is another hair match possibility for the 29th. Revenge for Heavy Metal losing his hair? They might rush the new Guerreros Negros vs Perros match and just do a cage main on 8/29. Who knows…

Lineups next week are pretty disapointing considering half the roster is gone. Tuesday’s C3 taping might be good in parts but overall it’s pretty awful. Friday just looks terrible. It’s okay though since next week will be an AAA week with the ALAS DE ORO in Mexico and Monterrey taping in the States.

  3. I’m positive CMLL will end up being the usual 1:45 hours… there goes Rob’s “Olympics will can CMLL” and “Canal 5 programming was moved to Gala”. =P We’ll see in 10 minutes….

  4. It wasn’t my theory, it was Reynek’s:

“Toda la programación habitual del 5 se fue a Galavisión”

I’ve never seen someone so happy to get to watch a Mictlan match.:)

  5. Hooligan’s painted face + tassles = nightmares for me.

What an obvious edit in the second fall though.:)

  6. Man they didn’ even pretend to hide the edits in that match but it’s okay… a nice bonus to make up for that awful opener. I’m trying not to judge Dragon Rojo Jr. on this feud with Mictlan but he’s definitely no young Ultimo Guerrero.

  7. I think it’s safe to say – Tuesday openers airing is well & truly finished :(

Not that i expected it this week, but that must be about 2 motnhs since one aired.

  8. You seriously can’t see Tzuki if he is standing behind either of his partners.

    The surfboard/slingshot legdrop was sick.

    Great two falls so far.

  9. Whoa, that was an uncharachteristic slip by the little dude. But an awesome dive! Fun quick third fall.

  10. HOW DARE YOU!!!

I’m surprised he didn’t hurt himself since a slip from that height would be like a regular sized dude slipping to the floor and you could blow out a knee that way.

  11. Oh yeah, I wanted to mention another good thing about the lineups this week – Trueno back in action! Last we heard he fractured his skull and I was worried when nobody followed up with any other news so good to see him back in the ring.

  12. Should we pretend like Purpura was trying to do that dive or face reality that he can’t pull off his own tornillo?

  13. @Rob:
Yeah, meant to mention that about Trueno too. I’ve been wondering if there were any updates this past few weeks and was pleased to see him on the lineups

I know you’re not too hot on him but i think he’s pretty fun and hope to see him with Sensei/Sombra/Tigre Blanco in some upcoming Tuesday segundas!

Tercera was pretty dull. Metalik hit a plancha! That a bit like watching the Alas De Oro and seeing AeroStar busting out a Pescado as his big dive :D

Mascara Purpura is complete a waste of time.

  14. Yeah I’m not too high on Trueno but he’s still young so he has lots of time to impress.

6:05pm and a 2 minute fall left in this match? Main gonna go 40 mins.?

Knowing Aero Star is winning the Alas De Oro makes me quite excited for next Sunday.:D I cannot even imagine the stuff he’s gonna invent and I’m sure they will top this year’s Reyes Del Aire.

  15. Rob, if now you’re following ByL’s trends, it means now you’ll claim for La Sombra to be dropped out from CMLL?

  16. I’m amused by the fact everyone is jumping on the Dragon Rojo Jr. es un inflado deal. It seems ANYONE that gets pushed is un inflado. I’m not quite sure if the entire forum wouldn’t just be happy if Cien Caras, Rayo, MA2K, Fishman and Mascara Sagrada came back and just main evented till they dropped dead in the ring and Lucha Libre just shut down for good.

  17. Well I caught the main event of LYC and man that’s a match only Daniel could love. Between Hator showing his ass about 5 times to Mascara Ano Dos Mil Jr. looking a lot like Olympico, It was something else. So what Fake version of Huracan Ramierz is this one?

  18. 584 x 35… subtract 1 that lost the rights to the name in 1998… add 2 that worked in Guatemala… add 45 mini’s who had the gimmick… divide by 3 due to their height… carry the 2…

    *brain explodes*

  19. Meanwhile on the ByL board someone said Juventud Guerrera is gone from AAA and has an AULL match booked already. I think this may be a firing rather than someone quitting.

  20. he-she-it didn’t specifically said that Juvy was out of AAA, he might have permission to work with his daddy, Fuerza left in more or less good terms, but looking at it optimistically, Mex Pows and TJ crap should also be on their way out, I can see Crazzy Boy thinking that his DTU thing can work with support from TVC, and Halloween and Nicho have already work there…
