08/02: Mexico, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 08/01 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, la aficion, ESTO, Ovaciones]
1) Puma King & Tiger Kid b Sombra de Plata & Tigre Blanco
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Mágica b Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei
3) Alex Koslov, Mictlán, Valiente b Dragon Rojo, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone DQ Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Místico, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Dr. Wagner Jr., el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza [Relevos Increíbles]

Perro Aguayo Jr. fractured his left arm in the main event. It’s said to be at the bicep, and he’s going to be operated on this morning. He would probably miss the Anniversary show if it’s a compound fracture, but no one’s that specific yet.

As the main event finishes were laid out, it did not seem like they were doing a hard sell for Mistico/Perro. Both falls focused on Wagner/Niebla, back to caring about fighting each other again. Wagner got his side DQed for yanking Niebla’s mask in the first fall, and Niebla got away with yanking Wagner’s mask in the second. After the match, Niebla talked about getting a shot at the UWA Heavyweight Title.

Of note, both teams generally played it straight during the match, which meant Mistico & Hector Garza fought. Perro tried to get La Mistica on Mistico, but Mistico broke free and tried to martinete Perro. Hector made the save. After the match, Perro, Wagner and Hector (hard to tell) attacked Mistico.

The undercard matches played out as presumed. Semimain was all about V5/Panther. Villano got his team DQed when he broke Panther’s mask. Panther demanded a mask match after, and Villano 5 accepted. I’d have more faith in this meaning something if they hadn’t been doing about the same thing for months.

Mictlan got a revenge pin on Dragon Rojo Jr. to win that match, while Lady Apache pinned Amapola with the help of the ropes.

Besides the legends presentation, there was a moment of applause for Alfonso Dantes.

CMLL (TUE) 08/05 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Starman vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Tzuki vs Fire, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
3) Flash, Máscara Púrpura, Metalik vs Bronco III, Loco Max, Nitro
4) Dos Caras Jr., Grey Shadow, La Sombra vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]

Dos Caras isn’t off the schedule, and there’s been no news about it today.

CMLL (FRI) 08/08 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Tigre Blanco vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Fabián el Gitano, Metalik, Tony Rivera vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skandalo
3) Alex Koslov, Felino, Mictlán vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Misterioso II
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. vs Heavy Metal, Terrible, Villano V
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Shocker vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Dragon Rojo and Mictlan are matched up again. I wonder if they’ll hold off the UWA Title match until after the Olympics?

  1. “Perro Aguayo Jr. fractured his left arm in the main event. ”

At least no one involved in the Anniversary show main event was hurt…

  2. If Anniversary show is last Friday in Sept, it’s the night before the Superluchas fan fest. That would be a great weekend. I think this is the case, and SL knows something.

  3. Today is August 2nd, Perrito is out for 3 weeks. By math that’s 21 days. So till August 23rd. What day in August is the Anniversary Show, Chui?

  4. CMLL.com got a redesign that is very flash heavy, and I don’t mean the wrestler. This would be a perfect time to start adding show videos but alas it appears they aren’t doing that.

Last night looks very blah. They still seem to be heading forward without promising any single match unless you still buy the Panther vs Villano hype. The Mictlan/Dragon Rojo feud is going fast but surely that won’t be one of the big matches in September since nobody cares.

Tuesday’s lineup is awesome as discussed already.

Friday is just a horribly weak show. Tons of lazy workers in boring matches. If I’m not mistaken that will be the final CMLL show to make TV till the Olympics end so it’s a horrible way to leave things off.

  5. Never said Aguayo won’t be in the Anniversary show, I just noted the fact that no one from that show’s main event was hurt yesterday.

  6. What final show? It seems Gala won’t have any Olympics coverage and everything will be on C2 and C5.

  7. Mictlan and Dragon Rojo Jr seem headed to a masks match at the anniversary, I see too scenarios:

CMLL does two Anniversary shows with Dragon Rojo and Mictlan in the semis and the main event having the guys from the next show, like the Ultimo Guerrero vs Mr Aguila match.

Or the main event is kinda weak so they have the masks match in the undercard, like in the Angel Azteca vs El Arkangel.

  8. No matter how much they want to push Dragon Rojo, there’s no way a singles match involving Mictlan should be even making an ordinary Friday Arena Mex card, never mind the biggest show of the year!

Next Tuesdays C3 lineup looks fun for the 2nd week in a row. I can’t say the same for Friday. Shame there’s no chance of Los Guillereros airing if the main is a title match.

  9. This Mictlan/Dragon Rojo Jr. feud is like watching the special olympics. You’re just happy everyone is trying their hardest and hope nobody hurts themselves.

  10. I must have tuned in later after the commercial or it seems all Valiente did in the match was his dive and second fall finisher.

  11. Hmmm… they advertised Neutron working Sunday in GDL but he isn’t booked. They also never said Tuesday was a title match main event. Bang-up job as usual!

  12. Damn – no opener and about the most mailed in effort you’ll ever see from those guys in the segunda. :(

  13. WEAK.

Way too much Astro Boy and the 1 minute first fall really hurt things. No matwork, no cool double team moves… that’s why Caligula and Messala exist damnit!

Waste of their 1 appearence per 6 months.

  14. FWIW, AAA’s starting putting up photos from Friady’s tapings. No results yet, but if you need one more think to look at..

  15. CMLL on C3 44 Juarez is worth watching just for the AAA commercials for next Sunday’s house show in Juarez.

  16. more enthusiasm saying “Aqui por Cadena Tres”, then anything else. to their credit, they told viewers about the Grand Prix and Perro vs. Mistico.

  17. Geez, that Atomic Boy/MDLM had TNA style editing. Didn’t give you a chance to rest after one spot, just a quick edit straight to the next and so forth.

  18. Ugh, everything is being chopped up big time so far. Guess we gotta save a full 25 minutes for Vampiro vs Mesias.

  19. Aug 8th in Madero
    Aug 15th in Mexico City
    Aug 17th in Tlaleulipan
    Aug 31st in Monterrey

That should leave only 2 tapings left to announce before Verano.

  20. The finish to the HF vs Nicho/Lider match was all sorts of retarded. It combined a typical selfish Teddy finish with the stupidity of AAA.

  21. Toluca results are up at elmartinete. Why is AAA having another taping before Verano?

  22. Maybe they want to prove to themselves they can draw a full house with a better lineup?

I liked the last MTY show (even though nobody is sending me the Aero Star match in a format I can actually watch it in!!!) a lot and hope they can only improve on it. In the WON Meltzer said AAA wasn’t happy about the crowd reactions, especially when Chessman got cheered over Cibernetico when he didn’t shake his hand. Maybe they’re gonna run an angle to make Ciber get cheered somehow, if that’s even possible. Not worth it in my opinion because crowds who want to get themselves over are going to do it no matter what. If they want to cheer Chessman, they will. If you they see you are giving in and you (the promotion that is) wants them to cheer Chessman, they’ll go back to cheering Ciber.

  23. Looks like they’re gonna have a match for the mixed tag titles and Reina De Reinas at Verano but I’m not sure how that’s gonna work. I guess Gran/Fabi/Mari against Oriental/Cynthia and someone but not sure who is gonna tag with them.

  24. This is where I say that Banderas should be given an ultimatum, he loses his hair or leaves the promotion, AAA wants fans to pretend that Ciber has already beaten Mesias, Chessman is saying “no way” and the crowd is siding with Chessman because Banderas should not get away with his hair intact.

The downside to it is that I guess AAA is concerned about CMLL picking up Mesias, but… well, sometimes you have to take some risks.

  25. Excuse my language,HELL NO.

Banderas is still one of the best things about AAA and is one hell of a worker.Don’t give him a reason to leave when you really don’t have to. He try leaving AAA for TNA, it didn’t work out because TNA sucks. He can’t go back to Puerto Rico, wrestling is near dead there. I’m sure CMLL would drop the ball with him because they have no clue how to book him.

  26. That’s why the ultimatum would have worked, he would have lose his hair, the match would have been a huge draw, and everyone would be happy. Now we have to endure a feud with Vampiro no one wants to see. Vampiro would be fine just tagging in with Parka and Octagon.

  27. Mesias would be a huge acquisition for CMLL. Shame no one in the US follows CMLL on FSE to see him.

We’re in August, more than 1/2 way through the year, and I don’t think CMLL has aired in it’s slot(Sun, 9pm) 50% of the time. It’s moved around too much. Hopefully they can get Galavision or Azteca to pick them up. But I have a feeling IWRG will get Azteca America before anyone, while Galavision is content with whatever Televisa sends them.

  28. @Rob:

Fire is awesome. Him getting a bit of exposure is one of the best things about CMLL this year as i literally knew nothing about him – I think his only previous TV match was the 2004 anniversary show, or at least it was around that time. Same goes for Fantasy and the rest of the mini’s we had barely saw any of beforehand, but Fire really sticks out. I wish there was a decent amount of Mascarita Magica footage out there.

But i have to say after watching those clips….Damiancito 333 – WHAT THE F*CK WAS HE PLAYING AT??! Did you see him, he shook Bam Bam’s hand after the match – he shook a tecnico’s hand dammit!! He disappoints me. He will need to redeem himself next week by killing that damn little Tzuki again :D

  29. I don’t approve him shaking Bam Bam’s hand either but I wouldn’t worry about that too much. Next week you’ll forget all about it after Tzuki OWNS Damiancito and makes him kiss his feet post-match.;)
