CMLL (THU) 07/31 Arena Isabel [la union]
1) Carta Brava & Pulsar vs el Cholo & Vampiro Metálico
2) Dark Angel & Marcela vs Amapola & Mima Shimoda
3) Astro Boy, La Sombra, Metálico vs Misterioso II, Nitro, Skandalo
4) Héctor Garza & Místico vs Damián 666 & el Hijo del Perro Aguayo
This is the 55th Anniversary show for Arena Isabel, and the article is more a look back at the past stars in the building. Arena Isabel is one of those buildings that seems to run every week with as many names as Guadalajara and Puebla, but we rarely hear about the lineups (much less the results.)
AAA’s website talks about the US tour being a total success. The August 4st Wrestling Observer says they drew 4,5000 for San Jose and 6,000 at LA, with both gates around $250,000. AAA also has articles about matches that’ll be taped tonight – Mexican Powers vs Hart Foundation, Psycho Clowns vs Elivs Porky, Apaches vs Morenos and Jerrito vs Mini Charly – and Alas de Oro on the next taping.
JUVA (SAT) 08/16 Parque de Beisbol Praxedis Balboa [express online, Hoy Tamaulipas]
1) Estrella Dorado Jr. & Tarzan Boy vs el Hijo del Pierroth & Hator
2) La Parkita & Mascarita Sagrada vs Mini Hator & Pequeño Damian 666
3) El Hijo Del Santo & Super Parka vs Blue Demon Jr. & El Hijo del Solitario
Mini Damian can’t actually be working that show, but he’s listed in both articles. Good thing there’s no strange recent news here, like Mini Damian suddenly dropping a title or something, and isn’t on any show since then (except for one random one in September where they had to announce him because they announced it as a title match, but didn’t mention him as champion.)
Yea, I’m hoping that’s all coincidence too.
AAA (TUE) 07/29 Parque Revolucion, Culiacan, Sinaola [noroeste]
3) Jack Evans, Konnan, Teddy Hart b Alan Stone, El Alebrije, La Parka Jr.
This was not a particularly notable match – Konnan fouled Parka for the win – but they write about it in detail and it always amazes me that AAA’s non-TV shows are nearly always 3 falls.
Sounds like Giant Gonzalez is doing bad.
Ovaciones has an obit for Alfonso Dantes and a interview with female wrestler Crazy Star (part of Martha’s group, not the male wrestler of that name.)
Speaking of Martha, it sounds like the Martha Villalobos/el Fantasma/comissioner issue is originally an issue of the commission stopping Martha from running a show because her wrestlers were unlicensed, and Martha going for revenge by claiming (though not actually doing more than talking, as far as I can tell) she’ll take over the comissionership. In the process, Martha used el Fantasma’s real name in an interview with Guerreros del Ring. As a public offical, Fantasma’s name is surely public record, but he’s still a masked man so it didn’t get people on Martha’s side. Various people in the Mexico City commission are quoted in the article, coming down on Fantasma’s side and reiterating that he’s commissioner until he term expires in 2012.
Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis are offering Negro Casas a chance to join Los Guerreros, though it’d probably help if the trio won the Trios title next Tuesday.
WagnerMania has interviews with Ultimo Guerrero and Dr. Wagner. Both say that mask match they agreed to in Leon has no date and they don’t know when (if) one will be coming. I completely forgot about that angle, and it’s worth noting that in the article about this Monday’s upcoming show in the same building, there’s no mention of it.
Most fascinating part of an Ultimo Gladiador article? He’s also a butcher. Of all the people in those MP/FdT/Hermandad matches, he’s low on the list of guys I’d think are butchers.
Shocker & Que Monito appeared at a press conference, representing CMLL and and announced a lucha benefit show for Asociation Ser Humano, a group which helps out AIDS patients.
SuperLuchas has video of the post Gran Prix interview with Alex Shelley.
They’re still writing about Lucha Libre London.
SignOnSanDiego writes about the Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop.
CHIKARA has announced their September 20th show is in at the Streamwood Park District building. Be careful crossing the street! This is a half hour from my place (and all of three turns), so I think I’m good. Tickets aren’t up yet.

If AAA did $250,000 a night, I don’t know if they made much if any money. After 40 fly-ins, hotel, catering, ground transportation, advertising, security, set-up, clean-up, ticket printing, talent payroll, production, rent, etc……
Wouldn’t it be the local promoters who wouldn’t make the money? I presumed this were just sold shows and AAA was getting paid the same regardless of what they drew?
The WON says the plan for the next shows are in Texas, but doesn’t say when.
Prayers go out to Giant Gonzales.
Hope Samoa Joe comes to EMLL soon.
Negro in the Guerreros? I thought he was in a group already.
You’re right Cubs, the local promoter would pay the bills, and be the loser. Just a figure of speech, because the gate always reflects on the artist more than the promoter. I heard a rumor that Marquez co-promoted, and the owner of LLUSA paid the AAA guys, and they split the gate, but it’s just rumor.
Texas has three markets that would do well. Houston, Dallas, and Austin. McAllen might do well too, but not as big.
But AAA did well enough to get dates in other markets. They might want to leave a few guys home next time though, to cut costs.

I was hoping someone would’ve talked me down from my Mini Damian paranoia by now.
Oh sorry. I wouldn’t worry though. The mini’s seem to be allowed to work wherever they want as long as it doesn’t conflict with their CMLL dates. Por ejemplo:

That was from roughly 2 months ago. Video clearly shows Dorada, Pequeno Warrior and Damiancito 333 working with AAA’s Mascarita and Mini Histeria + the indy version of Octagoncito. Main on that show was CMLL/local guys so it could have been the AAA guys who were taking an extra booking though so who knows.
Pequeno Damian’s wife works for CMLL so I wouldn’t be overly worried.
@Rob: Yea, but this is a SANTO show. Totally different (maybe)
Look, I don’t want to even consider the possibility of a jump. The CMLL mini’s division is so perfect right now that I might just cry if it gets broken up in any way.
@luchalibrelive!: True that lucha, but as far as hotel, hopefully they did not stay in some dive, they probably got something cost effective.
