CMLL FSE #98 (06/29)

taped 06/15 in Arena Mexico. The delay went down to one week on the previous show, in case I’ve confused anyone.

When it became obvious they were planning on airing a normal trios match and the tournament, it was pretty clear an already short tournament was going to be shredded in editing. That I could fit all seven matches in one clip probably says everything. The first round losers (mostly the novato stable teams, and one that should be demoted at least that far) really didn’t get to show much. The other four teams got to show a little, and the block final seemed to be pretty over with the crowd.

I’ve seen the YouTube clips and know he can actually hit these moves at times, but in terms of people being brought in from GDL, Metalik is coming off as a more spectacular Oro II. More spectacular in suicide attempts, mostly.

AAA rumored departure list

I’m writing about these rumors on a near daily basis and can’t keep track of them. I don’t know how any reading the site is doing, but I thought it might be easier if I stopped joking about adding people to a list and actually wrote it out.

Those who have left
– Fuerza Guerrera (indy)
– Rossy Moreno (indy, Guerreras women’s group)
– Martha Villalobos (indy, Guerreras women’s group) & associated wrestlers
– Mr. Niebla (CMLL)
– Super Calo (indy)
– Scorpio Jr. (indy)
– Zumbido (indy -> CMLL?)
– Monsther (indy), Chucky I (out due to injury?)

Those who have been let go
– May Flowers
– Rey Cometa (you’re fired/I quit situation)

Those who have left, then changed their minds and are staying
– Decnnis
– Guapito

Those who have been rumored to leave and are no longer on AAA shows
– Intocable (AULL show has not happened yet, so could still pull a Decnnis)
– Abismo Negro (????)
– Pegasso (just need to read the Box Y Lucha article, I think)

Those who have been rumored to leave, but are still on AAA TV
– Histeria (contacted by CMLL, staying?)
– Psicosis II (contacted by CMLL, staying?)
Sexi Star (contracted by CMLL?, staying)
– Elegido (varying stories)

Anyone before Fuerza and May are probably not related to the current situation (which appears to be 90% disappointment in pay.) Those two are just barely. I don’t want to include Latin Lover here, because it’s an entirely different situation.

Is this the whole list? Anyone I’ve forgot?

07/10: Damian 666/WWE, notes

Damian 666 confirmed he did a tryout match for WWE a few weeks ago. WWE talked about using him and Mr. Aguila as a rudo team on the ECW show, but he’s waiting to hear back about what they’re going to offer financially. He’s happy with CMLL and it doesn’t sound like he’d go unless it was a big raise in pay. Damian says he was nervous for his tryout match – it was before the crowd was let in, so you only had the wrestlers around watching it – but he thought he did well.

(Reforma via Jazzo) La Nazi wants a hair match with Marcela. That’s probably not a smart idea.

Metalik is surprised (and thrilled) he got invited on the CMLL Spain tour.

Mistico, Satanico, Perro Jr. and Marco will all appear in Kumbia Zero’s “Me Estoy Enamorando” music video. They’re one of the groups performing on Thursday.

Ovaciones has the same “Hector Garza likes his chances to keep the title” story that appeared in other articles yesterday.

Box Y Lucha #2878 has Negro Casas pinning Dr. Wagner, in case you don’t know where this feud is going. Steve Sims was good about this on yesterday’s Figure Four Daily. There’s some other things from that appearance which deserve a post on it’s own later.

If you scroll down the Box Y Lucha headlines after the cover shot, there’s ““Me voy indignado de Triple A”: Pegasso”. Add HIM to the list of rumored departures.

Box Y Lucha talks to a political commentator from Milenio about lucha libre I didn’t check out the video, but the article’s good stuff. He thinks Mistico’s problem is being over marketed – more by outsiders wanting to use his image to sell their stuff – but is a product of the times and probably would be a multi-millionaire in a country with more advanced marketing.

The Gladiatores is taking a week (or two) off for a site redesign. That’s smarter than how I did it, for sure.

Some newspaper coverage lists lucha libre on this year’s Warped tour, but I think they’re just looking at last year’s info. As far as I can tell, there’s no one working the show this year.

07/10 Gualajara roundup

CMLL (SUN) 07/06 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) Relampago b Poseidon
2) Idolo & Impostor b Azazel & Frayle de la Muerte
3) Guerrero Samurai II, Metal Blanco, Metatron DQ Güero Loco, Rafaga, Super Maquina
4) Casanova & Tony Rivera DQ Euforia & Toxico
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [CMLL TRIOS]

I was wrong, it was a title match. Garza pinned Averno to retain the title. Guero Loco was going loco all over the midcard, fouling someone to cause a DQ in his match, then randomly running in on the semimain for that DQ.

CMLL (TUE) 07/08 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quazar b Milenio
2) Ebola b Palacio Negro
3) Exterminador b Virgo
4) Malefico & Máscara Mágica b Thunder Boy & Tony Rivera
5) Leon Blanco b Vangelis
6) Averno & Virus b Sagrado & Valiente
7) Mr. Niebla b Dr. Wagner Jr.

Unannounced, they did the big Wagner/Niebla match here. Niebla won via foul, so they didn’t just ditch it, but if they believe it’s supposed to mean something, you think it would’ve been originally advertised. It wasn’t a no show situation – they were supposed to be in an incredible pairs tag with Averno and Sagrado, who were there and moved around. Maybe they just wanted to start practicing the singles match before they do it in Arena Mexico. Not sure.

A local guy beating a CMLL guy would be news, but it’s Vangelis.
