CMLL FSE #95 (06/07)

taped 05/25, aired in the US on 06/07

This is where FSE skipped 3 episodes. I’ll just pretend there was an episode they said hi to me in here. Yea…

Anyway, both the opener and the main event were fun. They’re not all they could be, but they’re more than they usually are in on this show. It’s funny that the one time Metalik doesn’t actually almost kill himself in a match is the time I make a joke about it anyway. Sangre Azteca’s finisher is one of my favorite things in all of wrestling.

Main was fun in the 1+1+9 format. Alex keeps coming close to winning titles – maybe he’d go all the way if he knew all the rules. I didn’t plan it out this way, but it works out nice that you can compare/contrast this with the TNA match tonight.

CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 07/01 Arena Mexico [SoloLuchas: 2, 3, 4, 1/5, Notimex, CMLL]
1) Sensei & Tigre Blanco b Artillero & Zayco
2) Hiroka, La Nazi, Medussa DQ Goddess, Luna Mágica, Sahori
3) Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Valiente b Diamante Negro, Misterioso II, Virus
5) Marco Corelone, Shocker, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Último Guerrero

In the segunda, Rudas lost the first fall, got DQed in the second for excessive violence and referee violence. It was probably probably for the best that one only went two falls.

(MT) Shocker, acknowledging being booed on this show, says he’d switch to the rudo side if that’s what the fans want. He also he’d like to see Perro on the tecnico side and him on the rudo side, and then we’ll see who’s actually a good wrestler. Shocker throws out challenges to Atlantis, Ultimo and Rey, and is interested in working in TNA. Volador did work this show, but if he doesn’t end up working the TNA one, Shocker would be a fine replacement.

CMLL (SUN) 06/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Palacio Negro b Quazar
2) Imposter & Magnum b Egipcio & Fraile de la Muerte
3) Depredador, Malefico, Rafaga b Guerrero Samurai, Metal Blanco, Metatron
4) El Gallo, La Sombra, Tony Rivera b Exterminador, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno
5) Nube Roja b Guero Loco [hair]
6) Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero, Toscano b Alex Koslov, Blue Panther, Rayman

AAA (MON) 06/30 Arena Cuatro Caminos de Nuevo Laredo [KrisZ]
3) Aerostar, El Brazo, Super Fly b Escorpion Negro, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II
4) Hombre Sin Miedo b Picudo
5) Antifaz del Norte, Pirata Morgan, Villano III b Cachorro Mendoza, Gronda II, Silver King

It wasn’t listed this way originally, but delacan @ SML says that singles match was a hair match. Edit: the hair match is next week.

CMLL (TUE) 07/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy b Carlo Roggi
2) Ebola b Azazel
3) Virgo b Rey Trueno
4) Metal Blanco CO Super Maquina
5) Casanova & Rayman DQ Infierno & Toxico
6) Gallo & Sagrado DQ Damián 666 & Mr. Aguila
7) Mr. Niebla & Texano Jr. DQ Dr. Wagner Jr. & Héctor Garza

This was the non-pinfalls show. Also the non title match show – I wonder if the commission decided Damian wasn’t a light heavyweight or they just changes plans. FWIW, it’s a CO after a Blanco dive, Toxico fouling Casanova, Perros fouling both tecnicos, and Niebla yanking Wagner’s mask again.

The July 7th Wrestling Observer says the WWE has talked to or talked about bringing in Dos Caras Jr. (who was at the SmackDown tapings, but did not appear in front of the crowd), Mr. Aguila, Damian 666, Grey Shadow (listed erroneously as Ricky Reyes – if you’ve heard his promos on FSE, you know who it is), and Sicodelico Jr.

The same newsletter says Mascara Divina is in line for a big push, which seems kinda of inexplicable. Divina hasn’t been on TV since Rey de Reyes, but I guess if no one else is sticking around…

Add Histeria to the rumored AAA departures.

Atlantis held a press conference yesterday to remind everyone his 25th Anniversary show is next Friday. I forgot, so that was nice of him. Outside of the ring stuff he’s doing that week is mentioned, but nothing yet for the actual show. Atlantis says he doesn’t even know if he’ll be in a trios match or a pairs next week. That doesn’t sound like the best job of promotion. Another article writes about Atlantis new movie, which actually sounds good.

Lucha Libre London article in the Guardian. Luchando Libre has video from the shows in Spain.

Hablando de Catch writes about the Moreno family, with photos thru the years.

Tickets go on sale for the July 20th Solidarad AAA TV taping tommorow. Anyone think AAA will actually put up Saturday’s taping lineup before Saturday? For those who have access to the secret AAA press website, is it up on there?

CMLL MORA (FRI) 07/04 Auditorio de Tijuana
1) Silver Star, Spyder Black, Star Boy vs Mandingo, Mazambula, Mozambique
2) Mascarita Sagrada & Tzuki vs Pequeño Warrior & Pierrothito
3) El Camaleon, Hijo del Rey Misterio, Lady Apache vs Mr. Maldido, Rossy Moreno, Super Maquina
4) Dos Caras Sr., Mil Mascaras, Sicodélico Jr. vs LA Park, Rey Misterio, Tinieblas Jr.
5) Marco Corelone, Scorpio Jr., Shocker vs Damián 666, Terrible, Texano Jr.

CMLL (MON) 07/07 Arena Puebla
1) Batman, Black Tiger, Toro Bill vs Aguila Guerrera, Black Terry, Furia Chicana
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
3) Centella de Oro, Hijo del Fantasma, Valiente vs Misterioso II, Policeman, Virus
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., La Máscara, Shocker vs Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
5) Blue Panther vs Villano V

CMLL (TUE) 07/08 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quazar vs Milenio
2) Palacio Negro vs Ebola
3) Virgo vs Exterminador
4) Thunder Boy & Tony Rivera vs Malefico & Máscara Mágica
5) Gallo & Valiente vs Vangelis & Virus
6) Averno & Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Mr. Niebla & Sagrado

I think y’all are right, and the show on Sunday is just with the CMLL Trios champs, not for the the title. I didn’t expect them to team often, so I guess it’s worth promoting when they do.

more notes about the Lucha Libre USA/AAA shows

MexicanWrestling.org lists a lineup for the AAA shows. I think it’s the same for both shows, but it’s not specific about that. Or all the wrestlers.

1) Mascarita Divina, Octagoncito vs Mini Charly Manson, Mini Abismo
2) Fabi Apache, Pimpinela vs Mari Apache, ?
3) Super Fly, ?, ?? vs Scorpio Jr., Decnnis, Psicosis
4) Super Porky, Octagon, ? vs Mesais, Ozz, Cuervo
5) Konnan, Zorro, Kenzo Suzuki vs Cibernetico, Chessman, La Parka Jr.

Opener actually just lists “Mascarita”, so I guess it could be Sagrada. Note Scorpio’s inclusion. He’s not going to work these shows, but that also means this card was figured out well in advance of the departures. Those TBDs aren’t because people left and spots need to be filled, it’s because the US promoters never got a full card to start (though Charly was probably that semimian mystery spot.) I would suspect the guys from the Warped Tour end up filling many of the empty spots. It’s not a special card but it’s pretty representative of current AAA.

There’s also an advertisement for an 08/01 PPV, featuring “Legendary battles of TripleMania”. Which translates to “matches from the last few years, with no particular care.”

LA PARKA -VS- CIBERNETICO

2004 TripleMania. Mask vs Mask, which goes unmentioned. Perhaps because of all the unmasked photos of Cibernetico.

DOME OF DEATH
The Mexican luchadores
Cibernético, Apocalipsis, Chessman, and Chary Manson
-VS-
The Foreign Legion
Kenzo Suzuky, X-Pac and El Mesías

TripleMania 2007. Apocalispis is the valet that appeared like twice, and that wasn’t even her name. They list as one of the greatest matches in the history of lucha libre. It must be fun to write ad copy.

BROTHER VS BROTHER
Charly Manson
-VS-
Electroshock

TripleMania 2004. This should be the match with the retirement stip, but Lady Apache and Electroshock shaved their heads instead.

FATHER -VS- SON
Juventude Guerrera, Sangre Chicana
-VS-
Fuerza Guerrera, Octagon

Spell check! I’m guessing this is the Juvi/Fuerza match from TripleMania 2007, except it was a singles match and they’ve got the seconds reversed. Like the previous match, it’s not a storyline that’s actually being followed up right now.

RUDOS -VS- TECHNICOS

MINI LUCHADORES
The Rudos
Mini-Chessman, Mini-Abismo Negro, Mini- Jerrito Estrada
-VS-
The Técnicos
Octagoncito, Mascarita Sagrada, La Parkita

This is from TripleMania 2006.

Skipping TripleMania on TV, to catch up live and to get people to pay for it would’ve worked for TV, or a better selection of great matches might have made this worthwhile. This is far from a Best Of – there’s one Important match here and maybe one Very Good match here. I’m all for supporting the product, but if you’ve really want to pay to watch AAA on your TV, you’d be better buying a DVD from Fredo or Bob or someone. I wouldn’t be surprised if buying the DVDs for the three full TripleManias ends up cheaper than this PPV.

Edit: On his podcast, Dave Meltzer says these two shows are supposed to be part of a larger tour, but he’s been expecting to hear the rest of the tour forever and still doesn’t know.
