AAA #832

taped 04/10 (mostly), aired in the US on 05/10

Stories that were told well on this show
– Lider and Juvi’s break up. If this was involving slightly different people, I’d be way into it.

– Black Abyss pretending to be Abismo Negro. This took zero effort – the crowd thought he turned rudo again before they thought he wasn’t actually Abismo Negro.

I’ve been thinking about this the last few days, kinda inspired by the animated featurette of all things, and I’m convinced that AAA will always have certain characters part of the show regardless of who’s under the mask. There’s been plenty of Mascarita Sagrada and there will be more if this one leaves. When this La Parka and this Octagon hang it up, AAA will probably want to create new ones. There won’t necessarily be someone named Latin Lover, but there will always be someone trying to be Latin Lover (and how strange is that Alan Stone seems to have leaped ahead there.) And there will always be someone reprising the role of Abismo Negro, even if it isn’t the ex-Winners. It’s too much of a trademark Antonio Pena creation for them to let go, at least for a very long time.

– depressed, bitter Chessman, tired of being the stunt dummy and finally coming to the realization that it’s never been about the Hellbrothers, but always about what’s best for Cibernetico. Or at least that’s how I read into it, maybe you saw it differently.

This bit, and the Mexican Powers bit, where you can see the match light the wick, see the dynamite sitting on the other end of that wax string, and anticipate the big explosion seem both unusual for AAA (home of the Zorro double turn of ’07) and fun to watch unfold.

Stories that were not told as well
– I swear the preview was hyping it up like Pasion Cristal was supposed to be part of a fascinating new trio with Cassandro and Pimpi. I think this is the last time we’ve seen any of these people.
– Rudos Sect vs Rudo Legion. If the Toluca crowd can’t get in to a match, you screwed up. AAA’s crowd gets very into tecnicos vs rudos, I don’t know why they need to have so many different rudo groups who don’t get along.

This wasn’t the greatest week for matches. I didn’t have any idea who was in till later, but the opener (actually taken from the previous taping) was pretty fun:

  1. And now Chui can explain to us all why Shamu from Tijuana just happened to be hanging around in Torreon.

  2. He was hanging around with the AAA undercarders as it seems that at the time, the local guys were tight with CMLL and refused working with AAA.

It changed a few weeks later as someone ran a show with only a handful of AAA guys and the rest locals, which more or less explains to me why AAA is letting the old guys leave, they’re using locals now since CMLL seems to be losing their grip.

  3. I have noticed that Alan Stone is trying to fill the role of Latin Lover in the abcense of the other imitators Elegido and Intocable.

Speaking of which why has Elegido not been on TV since Rey de Reyes? They pretty much made a fool out of him in the Rey de Reyes match and had him be part of a sqush match against the Secta del Mesias. Did he make someone angry backstage to go from raising star to the bottom of the barrel?

  4. Hello Daniel, how have you been? Honestly, when Elegido disappeared from TV, did you think it was a sign that Latin Lover would return, as Lover won’t work shows with other strippers?

  5. RE:luchalibrelive, No I’ve learned not to get my hopes up with AAA. There’s too much randomness to assume that everything is done for a reason.

  6. Elegido is missing from the lineup. I don’t like seeing his roided ass jiggle either, but he’s over, and earned his spot on the lineup.

At least he owns his name as he’s been using it since before AAA, in case CMLL wants him.

  7. Who was in that Torreon tag? I’m really anxious to find out who the fat one was and the one at the beginning with the black tights.
