CMLL FSE #86

taped 03/30, aired 04/13

I thought I had this one done, looked it over before posting it, and realized the last two falls got clipped off. There’s a lot of good things about how my setup has changed lately, but having to recap 90% on my old frequently crashing laptop is not one of them. I still haven’t used my refund money, but I think it may be going to the people at Apple as soon as they get around to announcing their 2008 models.

And that story is about as boring as this show. No match video, because there’s nothing you haven’t seen here before (and better), except maybe Hooligan. I’ve clipped the two Monito segments from this week and last week instead.

06/03: notes, lineups

triplea

Tonight’s Blue Panther vs Ultimo Guerrero match is getting some coverage. Ovaciones has a preview as well.

Yesterday’s Ovaciones had articles I missed, because I didn’t check the next page. (Professional!) One of the notes was Toscano definitively being mentioned as fired from CMLL. He would’ve been working Guadalajara at the same time this article was being written, so I don’t think this is as clear cut. Cesar @ box y lucha suggests it may just be a rumor.

Ovaciones is also down on Axxel (he’s not got and he’s been in wrestling for 15 years, so he’s probably not getting any better.)

Today’s Ovaciones says Rayo de Jalisco Jr. is talking to various companies about going to Japan. No company is mentioned, and no specific time is picked – “maybe August, maybe October.” I can only imagine this is either an Ultimo Dragon show or some sort of Santo/Todos x el Todos show, because I have no idea who else would bring Rayo in.

Terra posted video of last week’s Trios Tournament matches 1, 2, 3

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about El Engendero vs Negro Navarro. Victor recaps this past week’s FSE.

(Mr. Reyes) Luchas 2000 #422 has the news from the CMLL press conference. It also has the next group of Hereos del 75:

– Ringo Mendoza
– Tony Salazar
– El Talisman
– Franco Colombo
– El Satanico

They’re all working as CMLL trainers or other rules in the group

AAA (SUN) 06/08 Arena Solidaridad [Javier Gonzalez @ LMDLL]
1) Chessman, La Parka Jr., Ricky Marvin vs Electro Shock, Mesias, Pirata Morgan

Ricky’s listed as working spot shows after TripleMania as well, so maybe he’ll make TV again.

CMLL (SUN) 06/08 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [box y lucha]
1) Palacio Negro & Thunder Boy vs Milenio & Valentin Mayo
2) Idolo & Nube Roja vs Fraile de la Muerte & Güero Loco
3) Mini Maximo vs Fire
4) Casanova & Máximo vs Infierno & Malefico
5) Lider vs Exterminador (Guadalajara) [hair]
6) Heavy Metal & Shocker vs Lizmark Jr. & Toscano
7) Dos Caras Jr. vs Último Guerrero [CMLL HEAVY]

Dos defending the title is interesting, but that semifinal is something. What if they held a match and no wrestlers showed up?

AAA (THU) 06/19 Arena Caminos Cuatro de Nuevo Laredo [RFC]
1) Babe Rap & Principe Diamante II vs Rio Bravo & Tito Santana II [AAA NORTH TAG]
2) Electro Shock vs Chessman
3) El Brazo, La Parka Jr., Ricky Marvin vs Antifaz del Norte, Escorpion Negro, Espíritu
4) Sangre Chicana vs Laredo Kid, Hombre Sin Miedo, Ozz, Cuervo, Escoria [cage, mask, hair]

Down goes Sangre Chicana.

the problem with advance lineups

Let’s look at the teams in this week’s block of CMLL Trios Tournament action

– Felino, LA Park, Máximo
* Maximo is booked for the June 13th segunda

– Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara
* Hector is working the June 13 tercera. Hijo del Fantasma is working the segunda (and Fantasma leapfrogging so many people on entry seems like a post in itself. As is how Garza is teaming here with a guy who wasn’t even in the group they held a press conference about. What the heck was the point of that?)

– Máscara Año 2000, Olímpico, Universo 2000
* Olimpico is in the segunda as well.

– Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
* In a shocking coincidence, not a single one of these three highly ranked wrestlers are booked for June 13th.

I don’t think any one is surprised to see the Guerreros as obvious winners – they were heavy favorites before we knew the anniversary card – but it’s another thing to see them spell out the finish so clearly. Especially after they just did nearly the same thing with the first half of this bracket.

There are ways to gracefully deal with this problem – you could book all the teams, and make it clear matches will change depending on who advances.

Instead, this is kinda as business exposing as letting Joaquin Roldan be a second for TripleMania’s main event, though I don’t think the commission will be making a call.

06/01 AAA TV Results (Merida)

2) Gran Apache b Billy Boy
3) Crazy Boy, Juventud Guerrera, Ultimo Gladiador b Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario, X-Fly
4) Jack Evans & Teddy Hart b Extreme Tiger & Halloween
5) Mesias b Chessman
6) Alan Stone, Cibernetico, La Parka Jr. b Kenzo Suzuki, Konnan, Zorro

Projected Air Date (#840)
Mexico: 06/15
US: 07/05

I think I have the main event correct, but I’m having trouble following along with the commentary. I’m reading it as Roldan returned to help turn the tables on the Legion.

Semimain had been listed as Chessman vs Ozz. Ozz was there, helping Mesias, so maybe they just changed plans. After the match, Mesias tried to torch Chessman (playing off Chessman wanting to burn Mesias), but Vampiro made the save and put Mesias thru a table.

Hart Foundation Dos beat the tag champs clean. If Teddy’s here full time, I presume we’re getting a tag title match after TripleMania. FdT was busy on this show, helping out Joe Lider to beat the Mexican Powers in the prior match.

Catching up on recent TV, it seems like AAA was setting up Billy sacrificing his own hair to win Fabi back. Billy’s searching for a way to win Fabi back (yet again) and that would make as much sense as any. I’m not so sure that’s going to happen now. It seems more a standard build, Fabi losing up to TripleMania to get the win back there.

Mari laid out Fabi with a powerbomb Michinoku Driver to win the match. This meant Fabi was too hurt to help in the next match, Apache vs Billy, and Mari helped Gran Apache win. No mention of the referee stip. Since that’s not on the TripleMania program either, perhaps it was just dropped when the hair stipulation was added?

Upcoming announced taping
06/13 DF – TripleMania

06/13 Arena Mexico (Jucio Final) Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 06/13 Arena Mexico [Notimex]
1) Flash, Máscara Púrpura, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skandalo
2) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Sagrado vs Misterioso II, Olímpico, Sangre Azteca
3) Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, La Sombra vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Místico vs ?, ??, ??? [CMLL TRIOS]
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo vs Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Terrible, Texano Jr., Shocker, Marco Corelone, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Alex Koslov [cage, hair]

Not exactly the biggest match for Dr. Wagner’s return. No sign of any special match for Atlantis – he’s a sure bet for winning the trios tournament. Ovaciones says Atlantis’ tribute is pushed off to 07/11. Guerreros are definite favorites to make it to the finals and win the whole thing.

I wonder if they’re going to explain why Averno & Mephisto are teaming with Ephesto again sometime in the next ten days, or if we’re just supposed to pretend it never happened.

I don’t think it’s a killer card. With no big secondary match (this trios tournament doesn’t count), it’s about the same level as TripleMania.
