05/24: Mexico

ESTO

CMLL (FRI) 05/23 Arena Mexico [superluchas, ESTO, ovaciones]
1) Ohara & Shigeo Okumura b Stuka Jr. & Súper Nova
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica b Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
3) Alex Koslov, Blue Panther, Negro Casas b Damián 666, Terrible, Texano Jr.
4) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Shocker
5) Héctor Garza & Místico b Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
6) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo b Toscano, Heavy Metal
7) Heavy Metal b Toscano [hair]

Perro escaped the triangle apuesta match by double stomping Metal, then Metal got Toscano with a casita for the hair win. Toscano did shake Heavy Metal’s hand after the match. If you combine the two segments of the match, it went just over 10 minutes.

On the other hand, SuperLuchas has the semimain as going 36 minutes, with the last fall alone being a 23 minute marathon. It sounds as though this might have worn out the crowd before the main event, but they were happy enough with this one to throw money in. Again, clean finishes to take the night. Rudos took the first fall, tecnicos won the second fall with their trademark move and eventually pulled out the match with lesser moves in the third match. Averno & Mephisto raised the hands of the champs after the match.

FWIW, CMLL says Mistico and Hector Garza are listed as New Champions, so this is meant to be a second straight reign.

Not a lot of other news on the show. Both Bucanero and Koslov got winning third fall pinfalls in their matches, so they’re both on the up swing going into Sunday’s title match. Bucanero pinned Shocker and threw out a hair challenge, while Alex’s team won in straight falls after Texano got his team DQed in the first fall. Dark Angel continued to beat Amapola in trios matches; she just needs to figure it out in a singles match. Luna was hurt in that match.

ESTO said the building was packed, but they might have not opened all the possible seats.

CMLL (TUE) 05/27 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico, Tzuki vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween, Pequeño Warrior
3) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Stuka Jr. vs Diamante Negro, Ephesto, Misterioso II
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Negro Casas vs Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto
5) Blue Panther, Místico, Shocker vs Rey Bucanero, Toscano, Último Guerrero

Ultimo, Rey and Toscano teaming? I guess it could work.

CMLL (FRI) 05/30 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Molotov vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) Felino, Máximo, Volador Jr. vs Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Terrible
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Místico vs Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto and Heavy Metal, Marco Corelone, Shocker and Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V [CMLL TRIOS, torneo, sf]
5) Héctor Garza, LA Park, Negro Casas vs Atlantis, Toscano, Último Guerrero

Lots of stuff going on here. LA Park is back after four weeks, Lady Apache is back after a bit longer. This is the first part of the Trios tournament. I’m guessing we’ve got a Guerreros team, another Perros team, the Mexican Trios Champs (or something close to them) and something approaching Garza’s team in this main event. I’ve got less of an idea who’s going to win this.

05/23: Mexico preview, Villanos

CMLL

Tonight’s CMLL show:

CMLL (FRI) 05/23 Arena Mexico
1) Stuka Jr. & Súper Nova vs Ohara & Shigeo Okumura
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica vs Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
3) Alex Koslov, Blue Panther, Negro Casas vs Damián 666, Terrible, Texano Jr.
4) Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Shocker vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
5) Héctor Garza & Místico vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
6) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo vs Toscano, Heavy Metal [hair]

Ovaciones has it’s preview on page 18 (look, I can link to pages now.) NotiMex has an equally generic preview. ESTO has bios on all three guys and the rest of the card..

I’ve got Heavy over Toscano and Averno & Mephisto getting the tag team titles. They really need clean finishes but I’m not expecting them. The whole deal about getting different referees for this match hasn’t been brought up in weeks, but I expect it’ll play in.

Note there was no CMLL/TNA press conference yesterday. Until it actually happens, it hasn’t happened.

The Villanos press conference to announce their website was covered all over the place. The site is www.dinastiaimperial.com.mx, and has music playing on the main page if you’ve got your speakers up. Right now, it appears to be only bios of the Villanos and Ringo, which makes the talk about interacting with the fans a bit odd – there’s not even an email address on the website. Ovaciones had an article about the press conference, and there’s a similar one on Notimex. III, IV and V are supposed to team up next Friday in Arena Mexico.

MedioTiempo says Charly Manson’s fractured femur was the same one he broke in 2001, in the bump off the ladder gone very bad. They put in four bolts and a plate to unite the broken leg.

Mr. Reyes posted photos of last night’s IWRG taping. Results will be in the next Gladiatores.

SuperLuchas notes Mascara Sagrada’s new look. Not sure why he’d get a new one after having a court battle to keep the old image.

AAA RAMS (SUN) 05/25 Gimnasio Ricardo Flores Magon [Noticas Oaxaca]
1) Argenis & Pathfinder vs Silver Cat & Toxico
2) Mascarita Sagrada 2007 & Mini Dizzy vs Jerrito Estrada & Mini Ozz
3) Laredo Kid & Super Fly vs Chris Stone & Super Calo
4) Juventud Guerrera & Ultimo Gladiador vs Black Abyss & Histeria
5) Scorpio Jr. vs Silver Cat, La Chiva, Mr. Niebla, Oriental, Super AAA [hair, mask]
6) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz vs ?, El Elegido, Intocable

This is actually only half the card – there’s supposed to be “more than 10 fights and two rings”.

CMLL (SUN) 05/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy vs Ebola
2) Oro II & Virgo vs Danger (Guadalajara) & Valentin Mayo
3) Lider, Metatron, Nube Roja vs Exterminador, Güero Loco, Super Maquina
4) Casanova, Gallo, Rayman vs Infierno, Malefico, Vaneglis
5) La Sombra, Máximo, Sagrado vs Black Warrior, Mr. Trueno, Toscano
6) Atlantis & Universo 2000 vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Texano Jr.

I like how they’re sending Vaneglis on the road, but GDL has so little faith in him that they’re putting him in a locals match and bumping Mr. Trueno up.

CMLL (TUE) 05/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Palacio Negro vs Relampago
2) Imposter vs Fraile de la Muerte
3) El Idolo vs El Egipcio
4) Leon Blanco & Magnum vs Angel Blanco Jr. & Máscara Mágica
5) El Gallo vs Damián 666
6) Alex Koslov & Volador Jr. vs Black Warrior & Sangre Azteca
7) Dos Caras Jr. vs Atlantis

05/25 Galli in Villa Park Preview

Good things happening for my favorite local lucha promotion. There was a story on them on local public radio yesterday. And they’re running a big show this Sunday – the huge 16 12 team tournament at the Odeum in Villa Park. Show time is scheduled for 7 with the usual ticket prices. I mentioned the wackiness of the tournament when it was announced, and they’ve changed the teams a bit more so it’s even a little stranger.

Teams That Are Normally Teams
– Golden Star & Quinto Sol (brothers; tecnicos)
– Meteoro I & Meteoro II (presumably brothers; tecnicos)
– Samuary & Charly Manson Jr. (team often in trios matches; Charly is the singles champ; tecnicos)
– Guerrillero & Pentagono del Infierno (“Guerrilleros del Infierno”; rudos)

Teams That Vaguely Team Together Only Because They’re On The Same Level
– Venganza & Resistencia (rudos – I always love how Resistencia fights for Marxism while wearing a Nike elbow pad)
– El Tigre & Slayer (tecnicos)
– Centella de Oro & Nemesis (tecnicos)

Teams With Top Guys Randomly Teaming With Undercarders
– Yakuza & El Funebre (rudos; Yakuza is a top guy)
– Gringo Loco & Chilango (rudos; personality wise, this is a great fit)

Teams With Guys Who I’ve Never Seen Before, But Somehow Have A Picture
– Mr. Zeus & Pinocho (tecnicos?? – note the poster uses Pinocho 3000‘s picture from the luchawiki flipped – I don’t think it’s him)

Teams With People Who Don’t Even Have A Picture
– Amenaza del Siglo & El Emperador (rudos – Amenaza is a vet and would normally be teaming with Aguila del America, but he seems to have left this promotion – restricted to another promotion?)
– Diabolo Robotico & Samoan Love Machine (rudos??; A++ for names)

There’s also Jerry Lynn vs Negrotistico (who may still be undefeated), and I think they’ll probably run another match somewhere in here. Potentially thirteen matches, and they only list ONE referee working the show. Tough night for La Vaca.

I think Guerrillero & Pentagono del Infierno are the best bet. Meteros are really young, Samuary/Charly have more to do, Star/Sol have other things to do and everyone else is a toss up.

Anyway, it’s not Skayde vs Pantera, but I think it’ll be fun.

AAA #826

(scheduled posting and db updates – the events pages have not been working. I’m working on it.)

taped 03/01, aired in the US 03/29

The New Barrio Boys, especially Alan and Javi, were working about a million miles an hour in their match. I can’t see how they make it on TV as a regular with so many other acts but they did as much as they could to earn more shots. I didn’t rip anything out of this show at the time I watched, but I think this is worth going back and getting.

download

Teams are slowly getting more and more on the Clowns, but they keep winning. I think, up to this point, they appeared to be on track for something. This was the show with the Hell Brothers challenge, which doesn’t appear like it’ll ever occur now.

Cibernetico/Abismo angle came off well. If Roldan does end up turning, it’s worth noting that it couldn’t have been planned before this point – the Legion was going to finally get him, and they can’t claim it was a trap to bring out Cibernetico because they ran when he showed up.

Dome cage match was preposterous and no one who likes Porky should actually make him climb a ladder and a cage, even though it was pretty over. With four different guys helping it, he still barely made it and also barely did not have a heart attack. Good that someone was thinking to have the guy who lost the ladder match explain why he helped someone else win it – I think AAA does learn.

Weird that that the Atomicos match and the Ladders match were only being hyped in the Noti AAA segment. Better than nothing.

05/22: IWRG, GDL

CMLL

IWRG (SUN) 05/18 Arena Naucalpan [the gladiatores]
1) Avisman b Black Thunder
2) Freelance, Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II b Judas el Traidor, Karloff Lagarde Jr., Quarterback
3) Centauro, Chico Che, Maroc Rivera b Demony, Hijo del Diablo, Veneno
4) Dr. Cerebro b Fantasma de La Opera [1, IWRG WELTER]
5) el Hijo Del Anibal, Multifacético, Ultramán Jr. b Cerebro Negro, Ciclon Negro, El Hijo del Solitario
6) Fuerza Guerrera, Hijo de Pierroth, Septiembre Negro II b Blue Demon Jr., El Dandy, Mascara Sagrada

MA2K no-showed the main event, and he’s supposed to be in a title match tonight. Everyone but Fuerza and Dandy was a sub based on the original lineup, though many of those ended up in the previously unlisted semimain. If IWRG had a functional website, we might know the deal here, but the lineups they’ve been giving out to the magazines have been holding up less than usual lately.

Dandy probably wishes he missed this show, because he appeared to have a seizure after taking a Fuerza Guerrera powerbomb. IWRG does have a doctor at their shows and he was able to help out enough that Dandy was fine within a few minutes and taken to the hospital for a full evaluation. Match continued, with the tecnicos falling apart and Sagrada turning on Demon for the finish.

Black Terry appeared before the semimain, aplogizing for not wrestling. Since that was the match not listed in the lineup, there must be another accurate lineup that’s just not getting out in time. Multifacetico pinned Solitario, who I’ve forget turned rudo since they didn’t follow up on it a lot.

Dr. Cerbero won the title match in straight falls. Because they’re pushing him big time or because they’re setting him up for a big fall against Multifacetico?

The wrestler in the second match is listed as “Lagrade Jr.” – I’ve presumed it’s Karloff, but I could be off.

Congrats to the Gladiatores on making it two years.

CMLL (SUN) 05/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Palacio Negro & Quazar b Milenio & Relampago
2) Exterminador & Güero Loco b Lider & Nube Roja
3) Casanova, Metal Blanco, Metatron b Infierno, Máscara Mágica, Toxico
4) Metalik b Jeque [hair, mask]
5) Blue Panther & Shocker DQ Mr. Águila & Villano V
6) Villano III b Negro Casas

In the third fall of the main event, Negro bumped the ref, V3 fouled Negro, and the ref counted three even though it was obvious a foul had occurred. The CMLL recapper was very annoyed by the referee’s lack of sight here.

V5 yanked Panther’s mask in the third fall for the DQ. Metalik beat Jeque clean with a top rope headscissors for Jeque’s hair. That’s Jeque’s second hair loss in GDL in about a year.

CMLL (TUE) 05/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Azazel b Golden
2) Danger (Guadalajara) b Virgo
3) Carlo Roggi b Depredador (Guadalajara)
4) Oro II b Super Maquian
5) Magnum b Mafelico
6) Damián 666, Misterioso II, Mr. Águila b Gallo, Leon Blanco, Máximo
7) Atlantis & Lizmark Jr. b Dos Caras Jr. & Marco Corelone

Top two matches had referees being distracted from rudos slipping in low blows on tecnicos for the win. Yay lazy finishes.

Latin Lover is angry with Televisa Monterrey for, as best as I can tell, people on a network’s gossip show ripping his daughter’s birthday party. I think the show said Latin was using the party as self promotion, and Latin was deeply offended- he just got whoever was on his daughter’s list, and TV people shouldn’t be attacking raining on his daughter’s birthday. Latin also mentions he had to turn down the show he was going to do in Argentina, because it would conflict Televisa’s exclusive contract for his services. That contract runs out in October and it doesn’t sound like he’ll be renewing.

(KrisZ, original box y lucha thread here) Arturo Rivera will no longer being announcing for CMLL shows, after being pulled from them by Televisa for making anti-CMLL comments (probably with some pressure from CMLL.) The announcers on the two Televisa shows are supposed to be Televisa employees assigned to their roles by the network – more similar to sports announcers (assigned to the game by the network) than how other wrestling promotions do it (contracted by the promotion itself – I believe this is the situation for the MVS shows.) This seems to be why, when Dr. Morales and Arturo Rivera are otherwise occupied, AAA tends to have very random announcers – it’s Televisa picking the replacements, so AAA can’t just grab a worker and stick them out there for an hour.

In practice, after the AAA/CMLL split, the announce teams started to split apart into CMLL and AAA groups and you’re going to loyal to the people you’re around weekly. Arturo’s also worked spot shows as an special guest/announcer and has said Leobrado Magadan is working in CMLL’s office, so there’s connections deeper than just the announcing. Arturo was brought back to CMLL last year to reunite the pre-split team of Dr. Morales and Arutro Rivera, but it’s no big surprise problems surfaced after the novelty wore off.

I don’t think there will be the same problems with Dr. Morales working on AAA shows – he’s got enough stuff outside of both promotions (boxing coverage he does, and Box Y Lucha itself) that he won’t feel a need to defend one promotion against each other.

Ovaciones (page 22) has an Arturo Rivera column where he discusses Charly Manson’s status (but not his own), and a notes column, including a notice about a team of fake Universo 2000 and Mini Mascara Ano 2000 wrestling in Neza. Why pick that gimmick to fake?

Arena Olimpico Laguna announced tonight’s card has been completely changed. Only local talent is being used, which means no one from the scheduled main event is still on the show. The back story for this is probably pretty routine and ultimately unmemorable, but it’s always a tiny bit frustrating to get this pieces of a larger story. Something happened, but that’s about all I’ll ever know. Points for getting the word out about the lineup changes, at least.

CMLL (SUN) 05/25 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [rfc]
1) Scam 13 vs Voltaje Negro
2) Dralion, Leono, Morivus vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Furor, Nightmare
3) Super Astro & Ultraman vs Negro Navarro & Shu el Guerrero
4) Mongol Chino vs Caifan Rockero I [hair]
5) Diluvio Negro I, Heavy Metal, Hijo del Matematico vs Diamante Negro, Hijo del Negro Navarro, Pierroth

CMLL not exactly working hard on talent for this arena. Which probably means ACM isn’t paying CMLL all that much for talent. Not sure if that’s CMLL’s Leono, who hasn’t been on any cards anywhere this month.

CMLL (FRI) 05/30 Playa Canoazo
1) Lady Apache & Luna Mágica vs Hiroka & Mima Shimoda
2) Bam Bam & Mascarita Dorada vs Halloween & Pequeño Damian 666
3) La Máscara, La Sombra, Místico vs Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto

Besides Robert wondering why the spot shows are getting such awesome minis matches lately, note Lady Apache apparently being back. Haven’t heard anything about her pregnancy in a while.

AAA DTU (SUN) 06/08 Circo Expoferia Guautepec, Hidalgo [DTU]
1) Aguila Misteriosa & Black Sky vs Demente Xtreme & Hormiga
2) La Parkita, Mini Crazy Boy, Muerte Bugana vs Mini Chessman, Mini Espiritu, Mini Joe Lider
3) Aeroboy, Ragde, Violento Jack vs Paranokio, Pasion Cristal, Pimpinea Escarlta
4) Ayako Hamada & Crazy Boy vs Fabi Apache & Joe Lider [extreme]
5) El Alebrije, Intocable, Pesadilla vs Demoledor, Mr. Niebla, Psicosis II

This is a standard AAA show, except DTU’s acting as the local promotion (supplying the undercard, having a mixed tag match be extreme for no particular reason.) Anyway, my point is Intocable’s probably not going into barbed wire here, but it’s funny he’s involved. US Promotions working the same style as DTU would normally have their guys cut promos against the Intocable’s of the world, but DTU’s flipping it and using him to sell some tickets. (And it’ll probably work.)

Victor has a new FSE recap (well, he did three days ago – I’m a little slow.)

05/23-25 Lucha Times

box

As mentioned last week, there’s no FSE show in the US this week. FSE is airing a lot of live stuff over the weekend instead. The show is back on the schedule next Sunday.

AAA-US: GdT non-title rematch – Zorro vs Cibernetico vs Mesias. Familia de Tijuana and Mexican Powers finally have their title match. Jack Evans and Teddy Hart team up with the Head Hunter.

CAN52: Women’s Trios and Axxel in action.

CMLL: no mention of matches being skipped this week, and they have the usual slot, so I’m thinking top 3.

AAA-MEX: If they’re airing the Lucha Libre Expo show as a normal week of TV, it should slide in right here.

FSE-MEX: Diamante Negro remain unstoppable and Alex vs Rey.

Cadena3: More Diamante/Fabian, and a tag title preview in the main event.
