05/04: CHIKARA (kinda), Santo, IWRG, Lucha Libre Expo, lineups

Cassandro, your CHIKARA champ

SuperLuchas #262

AAA PC (TUE) 04/29 Parque Revolucion, Culiacan, Sinaola [SuperLuchas #262]
1) Tygol b Twiser
2) Frank el Payaso & Spartan b Delfin & Orion
3) Doberman, Epidemia, Psiclope b Monster Truck I, Muralla Negra, Relampago
4) Extreme Tiger & Halloween b Joe Lider
5) Casandro b Oriental [CHIKARA WELTER]
6) Chessman & Cibernetico b Black Abyss, Mesias [cage]

The title match was said to be a pretty good technical match, if that makes a difference. The report says it was the Light Heavyweight title, but I’m sticking with Welterweight. Crazy Boy was supposed to be Lider’s partner, but the results list no one so that’s what I’ll go with.

UMLL (SAT) 04/26 Centro de Espectaculos el Circulo de Guadalajara [SuperLuchas #262]
1) El Juli b Terror
2) Payasito Luchin & Super Coco b Perro Callejero & Pokarito Jr.
3) el Hijo del Pierroth, Great Eku, Shyru Dragon b Eddy Montana, Flash I, Flash II
4) La Parkita & Mascarita Sagrada b Espectrito de la Ultratumba & Penagoncito Black
5) El Hijo Del Santo & Rey Misterio Sr. b Hijo del Cien Caras & Super Parka

This was Santo’s 25th anniversary show in Gudalajara. Kinda think he could be doing better than show with yet another Hijo de Pierroth and indy clown gimmicks on the undercard.

IWRG (SUN) 04/27 Arena Naucalpan [SuperLuchas #262]
1) Avisman & Misterio b Judas el Traidor & Quarterback
2) Chico Che & Miss Gaviota vs Trauma I & Trauma II
3) Payaso Carrona, Payaso Miedo, Payaso Terror b Coco Verde, Cocochips, Cocolores
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Aeroman, Multifacético, Zatura
5) el Hijo del Pierroth II, Fuerza Guerrera, Septiembre Negro II b El Dandy, El Fantasma, Fantasma Jr.

Clown on clown violence!

Black Terry demanded another title match after his team win, but Dr. Cerebro interrupted to point out he, saying he was champion before those two and should get a shot first. (Dr. Cerebro is technically right, but he hasn’t held the Welterweight since 2002 so I’m confused.) Cerebro Negro also has issues with Multifacetico so the rudos are kinda stepping on each other to be the guy who takes out the young tecnico.

In the main event, Fuerza snuck in a foul on Fantasma. After it, Fuerza praised Fantasma, saying there would be no wrestling without his work as a commission and he’s glad IWRG is about fighting and not dancing.

IWRG (THU) 05/01 Arena Naucalpan [SuperLuchas #262]
1) Halcon 2000 b Anubis
2) Avisman & Jack b Judas el Traidor & Quaterback
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Fantasma de la Ópera, Kazuki, Miss gaviota
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK 47, Oficial Fierro b Aeroman, Chico Che, Zatura [EdM TRIOS]
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Silver King b Hijo del Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. and Fuerza Guerrera & Máscara Año 2000 and Multifacético & Pantera

As mentioned before, Wagner and King want a shot at the tag titles. Oficials retained the titles; no notes about the quality of the match. Fantasma de la Opera and Black Terry recalled how much they hate each other. I wonder if Fantasma will remember he was actually the guy who held the Welterweight title before Terry and Multifacetico.

CMLL (SAT) 05/03 Centro Banamex [Luchando Libre]
1) Pequeño Olímpico & Último Dragoncito b Mini Violencia & Pequeño Warrior
2) Dark Angel & Gaia b Hiroka & Princesa Sujei
3) La Máscara, La Sombra, Sagrado vs Ohara, Shigeo Okumura, Skandalo
4) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero DQ Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Volador Jr.
5) Marco Corelone, Místico, Shocker b Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Terrible

Main event focused on Shocker vs Terrible. Dos Caras Jr. suffered a hurt ankle in the semimian, and the rudos yanked Volador’s mask to finish the match. Gaia replaced Luna Magica, who did appear but was presumably hurt.

CMLL 2 (SAT) 05/03 Centro Banamex [Luchando Libre]
1) Hijo del Fantasma b Diamante Negro, Ángel Azteca Jr., Skandalo, Kid Tiger, Puma King, Flash, Hijo del Faraon, Bronco III [ciber]

A special one match showcasing the “new stars” of CMLL as the start of their 75th anniversary celebration, held in between the two shows on this day (I think.) Bronco doesn’t debut officially until tonight, and I didn’t know Hijo del Faraon was with training with the company till here – he’s been working in AULL but must be in the CMLL classes as well.

AULL (SAT) 05/03 Centro Banamex [Luchando Libre]
1) Heavy Boy, Trauma II, Truama I b el Dragon, Kilvan, Spider Boy
2) Chucho el Roto, Epidemia, Robin Maravilla b Blasfemia, Cerebro Maligno, Herejia
3) Rocky Santana & Villano V b Solar I & Super Astro [trofeo Experiencia 2008]
4) Rey Krymen, Sadico, Sepulturero I b Psicopata, Terry 2000, Yakuza [AULL TRIOS]
5) LA Park & Super Parka b Silver King & Villano III

Title change. Terry 2000 hurt his shoulder in the second fall, which spelled doom for his team. Despite losing his match, Silver King wants a shot at LA Park’s title. I have no idea which title that is.

The Gladiatores have pictures from Day 1 and Day 2 on their website.

Accion’s CMLL highlights were of the main event. Most notable thing was Shocker completely missing his target on his double jump plancha to the floor. V5 continues the Villanos trend of working with the Perros as if he’s win, and he held down Shocker for Perro’s double stomp and the clean pinfall. AAA had the three way cage match from Zapopan. Clips of the match were short, but it appeared to be a weapons brawl. Zorro took out the other two with chair shots and escaped, then Mesias barely got Cibernetico up for a powerbomb thru a table. Focus was on Vampiro’s return post match, and Mesias’ shocked (but mostly exhausted) reaction.

Projected air date (#836)
Mexico: 05/18
US: 06/07

During the show, it was announced Zorro vs Cibernetico for the AAA Heavyweight Title will take place at TripleMania. Both guys worked on getting seconds for the match during the show.

Hell Brothers won the main event, despite Mesias getting involved (and Nicho randomlly getting involved after the match, I think.) After the match, Cibernetico asked Prez Roldan to be his second and he said yes. There’s around a 70% chance Roldan turns on Cibernetico at TripleMania – there’s not much other reason for him to be there, and he’s enjoying TV way too much not to be talked into a rudo turn.

Zorro seemed to have the semimain won until the Sect ran into save Mesias. Konnan himself ran all of them off, and then Zorro asked him to be his second. I think Cibernetico might have gotten the more mobile guy.

In the Vipers match, Niebla fouled Abismo, pulled his mask, fouled Octagon and got away with it all, taking the match with a pin. AAA’s report says Octagon and Abismo were angry with each other after the match – maybe Niebla tricked them into believing one had fouled the other? Maybe the fouls reminded Abismo he shouldn’t instantly be friends with all the tecnicos he’s hated for years? I dunno.

Clowns are at 120. 30 to go. If my taping guess is right, then they’re right on pace to go for 150 (with some slight fudging) at TripleMania.

Mari got Fabi with the Michinoku driver again. No notes on the Pirates match

05/23 Arena Mexico Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 05/23 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
5) Hector Garza & Mstico vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
6) Toscano vs Heavy Metal [hair]

No cage match, obviously. What do I know.

This is clearly a big show to counter WWE running in Mexico City on the same night, but the timing is a bit off – WWE tickets have been on sale since March, so I’m thinking anyone who might be swayed by a big card probably already bought their WWE tickets. It’s not sold out yet, so maybe there’s still be some movement and I’m sure they want to show they can draw a big house regardless of who else is in town.

I think Toscano loses his hair as a final bit of punishment, because logic and Heavy Metal in CMLL does not mix. It’s kinda weird to be so mad at Toscano for no showing a hair match that you suspend him, and then you bring him back to trust that he’ll show up for a hair match all over again. If Toscano vanishes this time, CMLL’s going to look quite dumb.

05/03: Mexico, Expo, lineup

Felino/CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 05/02 Arena Mexico [ovaciones, superluchas, cmll, ESTO]
1) Astro Boy & Kid Tiger b Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica b Hiroka, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Felino, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra b Ephesto, Misterioso II, Virus
4) Alex Koslov, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas DQ Black Warrior, Rey Bucanero, Toscano
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Terrible, Villano V b Blue Panther, LA Park, Shocker

V5/Panther wasn’t as mask ripping as it’d been in the past.

Metal and Toscano were messing with each other in the semimain. Toscano faked a foul to win the second fall, so Metal faked a foul to win the third fall and the match.

Not really much else of note on this show, though ESTO is down on the women’s match (“at times slow and boring”) and the opener (tecs won despite messing up several moves.)

My new theory, somewhat slow to come together, is we’re heading to a June cage match of Panther, V5, Metal, Toscano, Garza, Mistico, Averno and Mephisto (with maybe Perro thrown in too.)

Ovaciones, ESTO and NotiMex mention the tag title rematch will take place on May 23rd. ESTO says the titles are vacant. If this is going to take a month resolve, I think they’re correct.

Lucha Libre Expo News
The show opened with Atlantis, Loco Max, Charly Manson and Rocky Santana in the ring welcoming the people.

Blue Demon Jr. was telling people (including Ovaciones) that the first NWA-Mexico show will take place in June in Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera. There’s been so little news about this promotion, I’ve forgotten to make fun of the lack of news for this promotion, but I will remind you they originally said the shows would start in May.

La Jornada followed Demon around, which reads really odd. The lead-in says Demon calling Mistico just someone who’s popular in the moment, but Demon never actually says that in the article. I dunno.

Opening show:

El Pancracio (FRI) 05/02 Centro Banamex [LuchandoLibre]
1) Baby Perez, El Templario, Electrodo Jr., Meteoro Kid b Comando del Aire, Comodin Jr., El Zicario, Kumo
2) Alarido Nocturno, Halcon Diabolico I, Halcon Diabolico II b Espiral Negro, Golden Bull, Hijo de Rambo
3) Gran Markus II, Kripta, Sepulcro b Caramelo, Pinocho 3000, Super Nino
4) Escorpio Dorado Jr., Super Muenco Jr., Yakuza b Disturbio, Kilvan, Sadico
5) Rambo, Rocky Santana, Super Muneco, Super Pinocho b Coco Rojo, Coco Verde, Cocolores, Shu el Guerrero

CANEK (FRI) 05/02 Centro Banamex [LuchandoLibre]
1) Sexy Man & Shu el Guerrero b Canek Jr. & Hijo de Canek

This was a tribute match for Canek, who was on crutches here. Way to honor your father, Caneks. LuchandoLibre notes the announcer was remarkable awful (could not remember Canek’s name.)

There were no lines for autographs or pictures for Generico or Shimma Xion when LuchandoLibre got thiers. No results from the IWRG show from Friday night.

MT has one two articles about the expo and what’ll be going on this weekend. EXOnline has the same sort of article

IWRG (FRI) 05/02 Centro Banamex [MundioHispano]
4) Ciclon Negro, Fuerza Guerrera, Hijo de Pierroth II b Black Dragon, el Hijo Del Anibal, Multifacético
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Silver King b Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.

Silver King replaced “XPO” or maybe was meant to be XPO. Brawling match that went out of the ring and around the expo a little bit before the Wagner brothers beat the Capos. Wagners want a shot at IWRG Tag belts.

Mascara Ano 2000 helped out the rudos in the semimain, yanking Anibal’s mask to allow him to be pinned.

Dr. Wagner Jr. was said to be very popular at the show.

Lots of photos of the event at el Martiente. The Gladiatores has more photos at box y lucha.

SuperLuchas had a dozen posts of it’s WWE ticket giveaway, it seems.

LLF (FRI) 05/02 Arena Femenil de Monterrey [LuchandoLibrea>
1) Dama de Hierro b Wendy
2) Lady Puma & Venadita b Angelica & Rayito de Luz
3) Diana La Cazadora & Perla Negra b La Bandida & La Chacala
4) Roxxi Laveux b Polly Star [LLF INTL]

Notable becuase TNA (or maybe LLF?) had Nikki Roxx work her TNA gimmick even though she wsas promoted under her old name.

Arturo Rivera’s weekend column talks about the returns of Nicho and Vampiro.

Newspaper Tree has a photo essay of lucha libre in El Paso.

A press release for the MLS Colorado Rapids/Lucha Libre double header promotes it as “the first-ever Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling event to the USA”. I’m thinking no. I really have to post the ‘quotes’ from Santo and Demon here.

Santo:

Buenos Dias, citizens of Colorado. I am El Hijo de Santo. Perhaps you have heard of my fame in Mexico, perhaps not. I have changed the lives of millions and inspired generations with my will and spirit.

Either way I come to Colorado to dominate, and you will be witness to my legend this Sunday. It is my 25th anniversary as the top Luchador in Mexico, and when I take to the ring against Blue Demon in the final match on Sunday, the Earth will tremble.

I will leap like the grasshopper and I will strike like the jaguar. And Blue Demon will feel the true extent of my power.

Only one will walk away from our match on Sunday. And that one is me, El Hijo de Santo. The last thing Blue Demon will hear is the crowd chanting my name….’The Son of the Saint’.

Enjoy the fiesta Sunday. Eat the food. Drink in the beer garden. Cheer for your Rapids to defeat their enemy from DC.

But remember this, mis amigos: when it comes time for the main event of Lucha Libre on Sunday: cheer for me, and you cheer for victory.

Saludos, El Hijo de Santo

And Demon responds:

“Fanaticos de los Rapids, I am the Blue Demon, Jr. Remember my name, for when you utter it, it will strike fear into the hearts of your enemies.

Since I first picked up this mask and uniform that my father once wore, I have championed the cause of justice in the world and carried on his heart and spirt to to the pinnacle of Lucha Libre.

Cast your gaze upon me. Fear me. Love me.

El Hijo de Santo must tremble in his silver boots when his mind struggles to comprehend my invincibility.

When we lock in combat this Sunday, the shock waves of our historic struggle will be felt across nations.

I look forward to visiting Colorado and the USA for the first time. And I will leave my mark.

I will leave it in the eyes of your children, in the envy of your men, and in the hearts of your women.

This Sunday it is I who will emerge victorious. You hear it for the first time here. Let there be no mistake, there can be only one true champion of Lucha Libre, and he wears the color of azul.

I am Blue Demon. Cheer for me Sunday, and together we will bring injustice to its knees.

Hasta Domingo, Blue Demon, Jr.

2) Sagrado vs La Sombra, La Máscara, Volador Jr., Valiente, Máscara Púrpura, Stuka Jr., Flash, Virus, Mr. Águila, Ephesto, Misterioso II, Loco Max, Sangre Azteca, Diamante Negro, Euforia [Reyes del Aire]
3) Alex Koslov, Heavy Metal, Shocker vs Black Warrior, Rey Bucanero, Toscano
4) Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone, Místico vs Atlantis, Olímpico, Último Guerrero

Milenio says this show is a special Mother’s Day show. Mothers must love the high flyers. That’s a really good lineup for the Reues de Aire.

05/02: Gudalajara, Kids’s Day

Mascarita Dorada & Mini Damian/CMLL

It’s looking like I’ll be on Figure Four Daily this upcoming Tuesday to talk about lucha over lunch. I believe it’s a pay show, but anyone can send in questions to Bryan and we’ll try to answer them. Also, pray to your favorite deity that I don’t have phone problems this time.

CMLL (TUE) 04/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [cmll]
1) Milenio b Quazar
2) Nube Roja b Fraile de la Muerte
3) Jeque DQ Idolo
4) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Mangum & Oro II
5) El Lider b Asesino Negro [hair]
6) Gallo b Toxico [OCCIDENTE LH]
7) Dos Caras Jr. & Dr. Wagner Jr. b Rey Bucanero & Toscano

Gallo retains his title. Asesino Negro loses his hair again. Jeque dodged a forearm, and Idolo got the ref instead for the DQ.

CMLL (WED) 04/30 Arena Mexico [ovaciones, cmll, MT/wire story]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Astro Boy, Sombra de Plata b Artillero, Pólvora, Súper Comando
2) Bam Bam b Pequeño Damian 666, Shockercito, Pierrothito, Mascarita Dorada, Celestial, Pequeño Halloween, Mr. Aguilita, Pequeno Warrior, Mini Olimpico [cibernetico]
3) La Sombra, Sagrado, Volador Jr. b Hijo de Fantasma, La Máscara, Valiente [MEX TRIOS]
4) Marco Corelone, Místico, Shocker b Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto

The story was the title match. Challengers took the first fall, champions rallied back to take the second. In the third, Mascara eliminated Volador with the campana, and Sagrado was able to finish Fantasma with a spinning backbreaker. Valiente knocked Sagrado out of the ring and took him out with one of his trademark dives. That left Mascara and Sombra in the ring. La Mascara got his campana on Sombra. This time, Sombra was able to escape into a roll up for the win. Money was thrown in after the match.

The Champs said they were ready for any one else to challenge them. Hijo de Fantasma and his crew are ready to challenge again. ESTO has this as defense #7.

Bam Bam pinned Damian in the final of the cibernetico. Title rematch coming up?

All the wrestlers in the top couple matches came out with kids dressed up as them. There were also kid valets and kid ring announcers. Attendance was over 16,000. MedioTiempo has more comments about the show, including Mistico being booed by Perros fans even on Kid’s Day.

CMLL (THU) 05/01 Monumental Plaza de Toros, Chilpancingo [davidloaeza @ box y lucha]
1) Alibastik Jr. & Astro Nave b Payaso Loco & Rey Jaguar
2) Kaoria & Luna Mágica b Medussa & Rosa Negra
3) Piloin, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito b Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
4) Astro Boy, La Sombra, Valiente b Misterioso II, Pierroth, Texano Jr.
5) Averno & el Hijo del Perro Aguayo b Héctor Garza & Místico

Averno fouled Hector and Perro yanked Mistico’s mask. The guy who went to this and the AAA sho the previous day thinks the CMLL show was better and had more attendance.

CMLL (FRI) 05/02 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Kid Tiger vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica vs Hiroka, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Felino, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra vs Ephesto, Misterioso II, Virus
4) Alex Koslov, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas vs Black Warrior, Rey Bucanero, Toscano
5) Blue Panther, LA Park, Shocker vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Terrible, Villano V

ESTO does the usual preview.

Meanwhile, AAA has it’s THIRD TV taping this week. They must have a plan to be away from camera for some time in May, because they’re setting up a big backlog again. The big singles match is Zorro vs Mesias, and I think Vampiro will physically be involved in that one. Abismo Negro is supposed to participate in a trio, but I now wonder if maybe we’re getting another Black Abyss appearance.

Clowns will probably be up to 127. With the Hell Brothers teaming together in the main event, I wonder if they’re just about to do that match.

ESTO has an article on plans for the Lucha Libre Expo and a Volador bio is partly plug for the shows.

Lots of articles mentioning lucha libre events in passing from Kid’s Day, like this one that was actually a boxing/wrestling show.

Is AAA changing Monterrey arena affiliations again? Perhaps.

CMLL (MON) 05/05 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano, Forajido, King Jaguar vs Aguila Guerrera, Espiritu Maligno, Mr. Rafaga
2) Fuerza Chicana, Furia Chicana, Policeman vs Cerebro Negro, Flecha, Kraken
3) Amapola vs Marcela [CMLL WOMEN]
4) La Máscara, Sagrado, Valiente vs Olímpico, Sangre Azteca, Toscano
5) La Sombra, Místico, Shocker vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Of course Puebla should have a good Cinco de Mayo show.

04/30 AAA TV Results (Aguascalientes)

AAA TV (WED) 04/30 Auditorio Morelos de Aguascalientes
1) Billy Boy, el Ángel, Gato Everady b Ángel Mortal, Gran Apache, Mr. Cóndor
2) Alan Stone, Chris Stone, Super Calo DQ Extreme Tiger, Halloween, TJ Xtreme
3) Crazy Boy & Juventud Guerrera b Jack Evans & Teddy Hart
4) Black Abyss b Super Porky
5) Escoria, Mesias, Ozz DCO Electro Shock, Head Hunter I, Konnan
6) Zorro b Cibernetico [1, AAA HEAVY]

Projected air date (#835)
Mexico: 05/11
US: 05/31

Zorro beat Cibernetico, so Zorro gets another match with Cibernetico. That one will be for the AAA World Title (which I keep forgetting Cibernetico finally won) and is heavily hinted to take place at TripleMania. Don’t be confused into believing Zorro actually won this on his own – Teddy Hart snuck in and fouled Cibernetico – but a win’s a win.

Semimain ended up all outside, and the referee actually counted them out. After the match, Vampiro showed up to tease a match with Mesias again.

Super Porky replaced Abismo Negro, who was said to be out hurt thanks to Black Abyss’ martinete on the last taping. Mr. Niebla freely helped Black Abyss get the win.

Crazy/Juvi vs Jack/Teddy was said be one of the better matches. Jack and Teddy have gotten strong reviews the whole way thru, but it does make sense for them to lose (Juvi pinned Jack here) since who knows when they’ll be back around. After the match, Joe Lider showed up to mock the Mexican Powers, announce his new trio (“La Hermandad”) and the first new member – Nicho. They’re moving towards a trios feud, so we’ve got one more person to guess. (And then one more person to replace Nicho when he vanished.) La Hermandad also seems to be yet another rudo group who does not get along with any of the other rudo groups.

Halloween fouled Alan to end the segunda. I’d be all for a Stones/Tijuana tag title feud. Though, if the last feud is any indication, somehow it’ll end up with Alan and Intocable getting the tag title shot.

Gato Eveready pinned Gran Apache. INJUSTICE. I hope Billy at least set it up.
