CMLL
Lots and lots of coverage of CMLL’s press conference yesterday. As it turns out, most of the stuff either had already came out, or I already had some how figured out on a hunch. Nice to get it confirmed.
– The 7 man Jucio Final cage match is now a ten man cage match. Shocker got his wish and is now in the match, but so are Marco Corelone and Mr. Aguila. At least one of those guy is going to to some insane off the top of the cage, maybe both. The teams
Perros: Perro Jr., Damian 666, Terrible, Texano, Aguila
forces of good: Negro Casas, Heavy Metal, Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Shocker
It turns out Damian is wrong – this doesn’t leave the Perros enough people to challenge for the Trios titles. Maybe Ephesto can earn himself a shirt if he wins on Friday (though Mistierioso would’ve been better.)
– The CMLL/TNA deal was the second big announcement here. Hector Guerrero, credited with brokering the deal from TNA’s side, appeared at the press conference to represent that group.
As had been reported in the Observer, CMLL will send a team to TNA’s World X Cup: Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr., and Averno. Also, Alex Koslov is being sent to work as part of “Team Other Countries That Don’t Have Their Own Team”. CMLL took a moment to note Dos Caras Jr. and Terrible were also offered, but then someone explained to them how the X Division is supposed to be smaller guys.
I would guess Averno & Volador’s spots were originally supposed to be Perro Jr. and Mistico. This probably will work out better. For their part, Hector claims there was no such conversation about Mistico and Perro not being involved and the Wrestling Observer should not be trusted in these matters. Kinda weird, of the 200 wrestlers on CMLL’s roster, they just happened to have the right 5 if they’re so otherwise wrong.
The 5 CMLL wrestlers will work TNA’s Orlando TV tapings on June 9, 10, 23, and 24, and then the Victory Road on July 13th in Houston.
TNA wrestlers mentioned as POSSIBLY coming in include Samoa Joe, Tomko, AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, and Booker T. Mar noted that none of the TNA guys coming to CMLL was confirmed. They’re trusting TNA to honor the deal and reciprocate with talent at a later point. (So one would assume they’re getting paid up front, because no one would be that dumb.) ESTO’s article quotes Panico as hoping the TNA guys will be in for the Anniversary show.
Steiner just worked Reina de Reinas and it seemed like AAA wanted to do more with him. I guess that’s not possible any more.
– Dr. Wagner Jr. returns to CMLL on June 13, though he was not at this press conference. Wagner met personally with Paco Alonso to work things out. Oddly, the story Panico went with here is Wagner was said in Box Y Lucha was “ill handled.” I guess he words were taken out of context every time after too, including the parts where he denied he was misquoted. (If the sarcasm didn’t translate: I don’t buy that story and wonder if Wagner will back it up. I think he’s best off just not talking about it.) Wagner will remain an independent but work for CMLL on occasion.

Today:
– CMLL starts the trios tournament and builds up this cage match in Arena Mexico
– AAA wraps up the road to TripleMania with the first of two tapings this weekend.
CMLL (THU) 05/22 Arena Neza [thegladiatores]
1) Tormenta I & Tormenta II b Angel Perverso & Zakura
2) Kid Tiger & Trueno b Cholo & Vaquero
3) Celestial, Electrico, Shockercito b Fire, Mini Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia
4) Dr. X, Nitro, Virus b Calígula, La Máscara, Méssala
5) Black Warrior, Sangre Azteca, Toscano b Grey Shadow, Shocker, Volador Jr.
No wins for Cholo! Even worse, he appears to be feuding with Kid Tiger, which can’t possibly end happily for Cholo.
Also feuding are the Romans and Tuareg. It’s the battle of Carthage all over again! It didn’t go well for the Romans for a while there, and it didn’t go well for the Romans here. Is Nitro actually Hannibal? Skandalo totally should have a rudo elephant gimmick.
CMLL (SUN) 05/25 Arena Neza [the gladiatores]
1) Ahijado de la Muerte & Danger Kid b Cosmico & La Mosca
2) Guardian de la Noche & Superman b Luis Cirio Jr. & Tony Cirio

4) Ciber Black & Súper Camaleón b Cholo & Yidra [trofeo Arena Neza]
5) La Máscara, Rayo Tapatío I, Stuka Jr. b Puma King, Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
How did Cholo get in a match for a title? It was quite the match for people who never ever win. They teased a mask vs mask match after.
We didn’t get a lineup for show, but I’m betting Puma King was a replacement for Toscano.

“Chessman, Cibernetico, Pimpinela Escarlata”
Tell me that’s not the oddest trio for a match. And you know Pimpinella will be trying to kiss Ciber.
Pimpinela is a huge star in Nuevo Laredo, at a time, the top draw in the world maybe second only to Stone Cold…
TNA’s X-Division isnt for smaller guys it’s just their mid card title. Samoa Joe is a former X-Division champion and he held the title for awhile and he’s bigger weight-wise than both Dos Caras Jr. and Terrible. it’s mostly for agile mid card wrestlers, which Dos Caras Jr. clearly is. i’m actually glad that Dos isnt going though, as it’s a step down for him competition wise. he’s a top guy and the heavyweight champ, he shouldnt wrestle mid card in the US and job to guys who he would easily get wins over in any other promotion.
as for Steiner, AAA can still use him whenever they want as his contract isnt exclusive to TNA, he only cant wrestle for WWE. Steiner and Konnan are friends as well, so the CMLL/TNA deal wont affect Steiner/AAA at all.
Styles should definitely come down, as he wrestles everywhere and has become the unofficial TNA ambassador. Angle should as well when his neck heals. Joe might, as he wrestled AAA before. Tomko isnt really a gain for CMLL and Booker might need a side deal that includes CMLL guys going to Texas to wrestle for his promotion.
But should TNA come down to Mexico as TNA and run a pure TNA show, or just send some talent for interpromotional angles?
How about keeping Terrible Nonstop Action out of Mexico?
TNA is not that bad.
