AAA #827

I’m out today. I’ll get in news when I can, but just so there’s something up here…

taped 03/05, aired in the US 04/05

Minis match was good, probably the best trios they’ve had post-Dorada. It helps that they’re not sidetracked by a turn and can just do their normal stuff.

Really odd that they gave away the final participants for Rey de Reyes, who wouldn’t qualify until the following week of TV. It kinda makes sense because Rey de Reyes would be starting just as next week’s TV is ending. People going to the event wouldn’t probably see the TV show and see Billy and Super Fly qualify, but it’s not something they’ve done in the past and they do sort of treat the TV show as ‘live’. With AAA, I’m not even sure if they meant to give those two away or if they just lost track, but it seems like there should’ve been a more elegant way to handle the situation (like just saying “the winning team of next week’s match” so people would understand how the winners got there even if they didn’t see the winners get there.)

Even though the Apache angle was fun, this was a definite step back for the Clowns. They’re facing people they should’ve advanced past just for the sake of the Apache angle.

Abismo was pretty much a jerk and Psicosis had full right to turn on him, though it didn’t really make sense for them to fight in the context of the fight, and it didn’t make sense for Alebrije to break it up. I don’t know where Gronda went for the last few minutes of that match, but I hope he’s happy there and never returns.

The funny thing about the mixed trios was Zorro and Kenzo acting disinterested bit while Juvi was living it. He so did not want to be in this match, to the point where I wonder if Zorro’s “I’m better than this, give me better matches” lines might have been cribbed from a Guerrera speech earlier that day. That seemed to be attitude Juvi was displaying. Meanwhile, Billy worked a million miles an hour and no one cared.

Triangle main event was okay. They could get anyone really cheap to do as much or more than Konnan can do in the ring, and Konnan probably would be happy about it, so I still can’t believe he’s wrestling. At some point, you know X-Pac’s not going to be there and you should have a new, workable, plan. AAA seems to have an idea on how work the multi-team tags fine enough, but they keep playing with teams breaking up pinfalls like it’s first pinfall wins when it turns out to be elimination. That’s one of those things that should only need to happen once before they either change the rules or change their strategies, but it came up a bit in Rey de Reyes.

  1. thecubsfan you said “I don’t know where Gronda went for the last few minutes of that match, but I hope he’s happy there and never returns.” I don’t know what your problem is but Gronda is one of the better guys around. I’d rather watch him than 90% of all those other fucks in this episode.

  2. Okay I really have to ask this Daniel… are you mad at Cubs and looking to just disagree or are you being serious?

  3. He rather be watching Impact and Shark Boy in a coma.

Really, can’t you tell he hates AAA with a passion.

  4. RE: Rob, no I’m not mad at Cubs, he’s never done anything to me to make me mad. Gronda is awesome: he’s a character come to life, he has an impressive presense, he’s powerful, and he makes me laugh when he cleans house. On top of that he has a great entrance music.

Really who would you rather watch: Gronda, or the night Queens, or that piece of trash Halloween, or Mesias and stupid promos?

  5. “Really who would you rather watch: Gronda, or the night Queens, or that piece of trash Halloween, or Mesias and stupid promos?”

Tzuki and Mascarita Dorada to be quite honest.

Really if I had to rank what you listed it’d be:

    1. Night Queens
    2. stupid promos
    3. Mesias
    4. Halloween (only b/c he comes with Extreme Tiger by his side)
    5. Gronda

I think Gronda has an amazing look but let’s be honest… he’s awful and really isn’t important any more. He’s just a nice sideshow freak to bring along when the circus comes to town. If he meant anything he wouldn’t be working tiny AAA shows in front of 100-200 people. Saying he’s one of the better guys around is not going to do anything to help with your other opinions. I was pretty much with you on the Latin Lover debate but am now questioning your taste…

  6. As awful as Gronda is, I’ll still rather watch him in a match than a completely washed up Konnan.

  7. RE: Rob, my opinion about Gronda has nothing to do with my opinion on Latin Lover.

You say Gronda isn’t important anymmore. That’s half true, and only becaue he (like so many others) have been put on the back burner in favor of garbage wrestlers with no star qualities like the Mexican Powers, the disgraces of Tiajuana (Halloween and co) and of course the Legion. All of this becaue Konnan is putting on a show that only he wants to watch.

And if you question my taste then you need to look back at your own priority list of who’d you’de rather watch.

Bert, I’m sure you’re not the only one who would rather watch Gronda than Konnan and his pathetic displays.

  8. “You say Gronda isn’t important anymmore. That’s completely untrue. Every time Gronda has been used on TV has been the main event or semi-main event. He’s treated as a star and therefore should be getting:

    a) star reactions
    b) more fans to come see him when he’s used on local shows

Neither is happening. People see he’s an awful wrestler and nothing special.

    It really is that simple.

“And if you question my taste then you need to look back at your own priority list of who’d you’de rather watch.”

And you need to start respecting other people’s opinions instead of outright dismissing them. You are not wrong all the time but you are most certainly not right all the time. The guy I disagree with the most on Cubs’ blog is Henrik, but notice how we’re pleasant to each other and respecfully disagree with each other? At no point do I tell Henrik – “you have no taste, you prefer to watch Neutron over Flash so you’re a geek.”

Most of this board understands, or at least should understand by now, the type of wrestlers you enjoy. You like the well-built good looking tecnicos and nothing more. You have a preferance and that’s fine. You can support your guys all you want but there is no need to constantly be telling everyone how much they’re better than everyone else and mocking others for prefering to watch other wrestlers other than your favorites.

The only exception to that rule is Mictlan. If anyone ever says they enjoy watching Mictlan, not only do I suggest they be banned from the blog, I also suggest we trace their IP and call the local authorities to report them as unstable individuals in need of constant supervision.

  9. RE: Rob, I do respect people’s opinions, and need I point out that you were the first to say that you questioned my tastes. I didn’t have a problem with that just as you should have a problem with me disagreeing with you.

And my taste in wrestlers is more complex than to say that I only like the well built good looking technico’s, just to let you know.

By the way what is Mictlan?

  10. “RE: Rob, I do respect people’s opinions, and need I point out that you were the first to say that you questioned my tastes. I didn’t have a problem with that just as you should have a problem with me disagreeing with you.”

I was the first to question your tastes?

True or false: The first response to Cubs’ review was you telling Cubs Gronda is one of the better guys around and then saying 90% of the other wrestlers on the show are fucks who can’t compare.

True or false: The fourth response in this thread was your asking my opinion on various AAA wrestlers including calling one a ‘piece of trash’?

“And my taste in wrestlers is more complex than to say that I only like the well built good looking technico’s, just to let you know.”

Name me 5 guys on the AAA roster you enjoy.

Mictlan works for CMLL -> http://www.luchawiki.org/index.php?title=Mictlan

  11. RE: Rob, true or false you said to me “I was pretty much with you on the Latin Lover debate but am now questioning your taste…” You said that before I mentioned anything about yur tastes.

And all those other quotes you have of me are just me expressing my opinions. Yes I did say Gronda is better than 90% of all the other fucks, and yes I did say Halloween is a piece of trash. I said it and I stand by it. That is my opinion and I’m allowed to express it. I don’t know what you’re trying to get at here but if you’re saying that there’s something wrong with me saying that, then how is that any different than you saying Gronda is aweful? You have your thoughts and I have mine.

5 guys who I enjoy on the AAA roster:

    1. Latin Lover
    2. La Parka
    3. Octagon
    4. Super Porky
    5. Gronda

I also think Elegido is great but he needs to stop imitating Latin Lover’s moves or else he’ll always be known as the Latin Lover imitator. Intocable was also great until he started coming out with male dancers and until he ruined the “Y todo para que” song with the lead in to that raunchy song he dances to now.

I also like some of the lower card guys like Mascara Divina and Tinambles Jr. but they’re hardly ever on. Women are always good and minis are always impressive.

What bothers me most about AAA is that there is an abundance of talent but sadly most of them are either under utalized or being used all wrong which is a shame.

  12. Wait, didn’t this argument start with you having a problem with me expressing my opinion about Gronda, and now you’re claiming that everyone has the right to their own opinion? How circular.

Gronda is bad at wrestling, so I don’t like to watch him wrestle. There you go.

  13. I agree with you totally on this one Rob, so here are my:

Things I would watch In AAA in order:

1: Real Fuerza Area (they are the future of AAA)
2: Night Queens (crazy but entertaining)
3: Stupid ass promos (some are funny)
4: Hell Brothers (yes I am a mark)
    5: FdT
6: Mexican Powers (Lider will be back)
7: Rest of Triple A Roster
8: Estrellita, Fabi Apache, Ayako Hamada, and Tiffany.
    9: Mini’s
    10: Legion/Secta

    Now for the commentary, LOL:

Somewhere in there, Konnan is turning AAA into his old promotion Promo Azteca or taking everything he did in TNA and WCW and using it to change the AAA style. As much as I like Cibernetico, tell me he is not acting like he’s become Mexico’s version of the Rock? I’m starting to believe that Konnan has been watching WWE programming and figures if it can work for them, the fans will like it here, and the problem more often than not is not everybody will like what you like.

I think one of the saving graces in AAA you have a stable roster of talent, homegrown and from mexican indy’s, who can work and not rely on all the stupid hardcore shit that they once saw in ECW or as I said before in Promo Azteca.

Konnan needs to understand this, fans know stories need to be told, but stop with the WWE or TNA styled stuff in all the matches, I want a decent match without worrying about who is going to be hit with a chair, ladder or put through a table (yes that goes for the Mexican Powers, Familia de Tijuana and Joe Lider’s group). There is a time and place for everything.

I guess in so many words is that as much as american, and mexican, wrestlers rip off of Japanese wrestlers and each other, Lucha Libre should not be americanized, and Konnan should stop trying to americanize Lucha Libre.

And leave all of his friends he wrestled with in the states where they are, in America.

  14. thecubsfan, no I didn’t have a problem with you expressing your opinion on Gronda I just disagreed with you. Disagreeing does not mean disrespecting. I never insulted you the commentER I rebuttled your comment, lets get that straight.

Gronda may not be the most refined in ring wrestler but he’s still more compelling than 90% of the other fucks, and that’s all I have say about that.

  15. I like Bob and think he’s hilarious at times and have dealt with him numerous times (merchandise buying I mean) and I know he tends to spaz out when people disagree with what he says but I’ll do it anyways and get ready for the wrath that will surely come…

Whenever Vamp joins a promotion we suddenly get tons of “scoops” that turn out to be about as reliable as Konnan’s AAA reports in the WON. I’m sure we’ll get tons more “inside info” from AAA till Vamp finds a new reason to leave but I’d advise you not to put too much stock in whatever comes out.
