The ongoing AAA discussion in the comments has revolved around AAA uses of foreigners. More specifically, it is AAA bringing in people their fanbase is mostly (or completely) unfamiliar with and AAA doing nothing to make people familiar with these people. It’s money being wasted and local talent being underused in a misguided and superficial attempt to appear global.
There is no better example than this tournament. Who are these people? They’re not going to sell one ticket more than lots cheaper to fly in. The Lola Gonzalezs, Lady Rabbits and Rossy Morenos (did she find out she was being left out and then left, or the other way around?) probably wouldn’t mean much when the show’s over, but neither will Carlos Amano, Sonoko Kato or Akino and they’re probably a little more work to get here. The matches may end up being really good – I hope so! – but if everyone’s just nameless faces brought in for one set of tapings and gone, what does it really mean? I’m sure the Joshi girls are happy to add “wrestled in Mexico” to the resumes, I’m just not sure what AAA is really getting.
In a fashion, this is dumber than bringing in Lashley – at least he’s only taking up one spot. If you’re a midcarder and you’re not Super Fly, you’re not getting paid for this TV.
MT’s story says all the women are from the Oz Academy. Mayumi Ozaki is the leader of the group (hence the name). Carlos Amano and Chikayo Nagashima were in last year for the “Reina de Reinas international” match which saw the joshi girls laughing partway thru it. Akino was in AAA for a three TVs back in 2001, including that year’s Reina de Reinas. Sonoko Kato and Dianmite Kansai appear to be making their AAA debuts here, if I’ve got the right spellings.
I’m sure I could go on joshi sites and figure out who all these women are, and I’m sure they’re intesting people. But explaining who these people are should not be my job – it should be AAA’s, and AAA passes on that job.
The tournament lineup is happening, whatever I think, so I hope it’s great.
Cinthia, Mari and Fabi are your easy favorites from each group. The Morenos are back just in time to run accidentally interference in the Apache feud and prolong impossibly farther. Tiffany not making it back for this probably means we’re not going to see her any time soon.
Why are Parka and Konnan and in that trios match? So much better without them. They need to go brawling off in the first three minutes.
I don’t know you, but I’m secretly thrilled by that main event. It could be something memorable.

Hey Cubs, I get where you are going with this and where you are coming from. Let me give you a little BG on the joshi wrestlers.
Carlos Amano, Chikayo Nagashima, Sonoko Kato, Dianmite Kansai, Mayumi Ozaki and Akino are wrestlers from the former GAEA promotion, ran by legend and Crush Girl Chigusa Nagayo. They are also, as you mentioned members of Mayumi Ozaki’s Oz Academy, which I believe is now more of a federation in Japan than a group.
Ayako Hamada, who wrestles in AAA, is one of the more notable names of the joshi wrestlers. She wrestled for GAEA and for another promotion in Japan, her dad is Gran Hamada and her sister is Xochitl Hamada. As much as she is unliked in Mexico, LOL, she do have an impressive resume, is one hell of a wrestler, and not bad on the eyes.
Again I agree with what you are saying cubs, although I still cannot believe many mexican wrestling fans don’t know who Scott Steiner, Scott Hall and some of the others are. Ah well, they do need to start working more with local wrestlers and tell Konnan to keep the american talent, unless asked, in America.
okay, it’s Dynamite Kansai. she’s a Joshi legend. she’s past her prime, but she can still wrestle. Oz Academy is one of the top promotions in Joshi these days. Chikayo Nagashima and Sonoko Kato are a top tag team in the promotion. Carlos Amano is the promotions Champion. Mayumi Ozaki is a great wrestler who alot consider to be a legend, she also happens to be past her prime though. this decade she’s become a top hardcore wrestler, she competed in BJW a few years back in some sick lighttube deathmatches. AKINO (her name is in all capitals) is the top mid carder of the promotion along with KAORU.
if it’s booked as it should be, it’ll be Mari, Fabi, and Amano in the final. that would also be the best match they could make too, which means it probaly wont occur that way.
I was going to reply “no, no, you can’t have Amano advance, why give a win to someone who won’t be around for a year” but then it occurs to me:
Tiffany – won the whole thing last year, not around for a year.
Miss Janeth – won the whole thing two years ago, not around for a year
AAA hasn’t done anything with this title since 2005, and the Apache feud is based around the mixed tag titles. If the Oz Academy can do something with the AAA Reina de Reinas title, they should probably take it.
Rossy Moreno said she’s launching an all girl promotion (I assume at Azteca Budokan), so it would make sense that AAA will fly in the joshi talent, use them on Reina and the Rossy will have something to work with.
It seems that Fabi won and the hair match for AAA with Mary was announced.
