a couple lucha international notes

Or things I keep forgetting to throw in.

– CHIKARA’s Rey de Volador tournament will include Turbo. The tournament is scheduled for May 17 and May 18 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The first round match ups are four ways, and Turbo’s two announced opponents so far are Incognito and Stupefied.

Skayde will be working matches outside the tournament, opposing Claudio Castagnoli on the first night and in trios teaming with Mike Quackenbush and a TBA partner versus Claudio, Pantera and another TBA wrestler on the second night. I’d guess the Turbo ends up in that trios match if he doesn’t advance in the tournament.

(thanks to ChikaraFans and odessasteps)

– TNA sent out a text message to it’s subscribers saying CMLL wrestlers would part of it’s World X Cup. No names were mentioned, and I have a hard time believing until the moment a CMLL wrestler steps into the ring.

  1. CMLL is supposedly signed on to contribute at least 2 wrestlers for the tourny. the past world x tournaments used AAA talent, but after the following out with Konnan and the fact that they are on very bad terms means no AAA this time. i expect Team Mexico will not have all Mexican wrestlers though. i expect we’ll see Grey Shadow as one of the wrestlers. Hector Garza’s been in TNA before and taken part in the first World X Cup, so he may be going back up. same thing with Heavy Metal, Mr. Aguila, and Shocker. they have been 4 man teams in the past and Puma will likely be one of the representatives of Team Mexico (it’s really sad), so expect 3 to come from CMLL.

  2. Well you can count Romero as a CMLL guy so it will probably be him as Grey Shadow, Kozlov and Shocker.

  3. Garza isn’t going back to the US after getting busted back in 2005, even if the authorities allow him to come back.

  4. It would be funny if they did use someone like marco corleone as one of the team mexico guys.

Too bad it’s not the AAA team of jack evans, teddy hart and sabu.

  5. The first night of Rey de Voladorres is in hellertown pa, not philly. Fyi.

  6. i wouldnt be surprised if they used Corleone. Puma is a fixture on Team Mexico, and he’s american. and i think Garza is allowed back now. they keep letting Nicho go back and forth.

  7. I doubt Turbo will be a mystery partner… it will more than likely be Lince Dorado. The other partner will be Shane Storm… im guessing?!?!

  8. I would guess Turbo is on Team Claudio so he can work Skayde, and Lince is on Team Quack so he can work Pantera.

  9. This match has been added to the Massachusetts show the weekend after Rey de Voladores:

Lince Dorado & Turboman vs. F.I.S.T. (Gran Akuma & Chuck Taylor)

  10. So Turbo and Skayde should be sticking around for the following set of shows? AWESOME! I really wish we could get a teacher vs student match with them but that’d probably break Chikara rules.

  11. People on the chikara board want to see skayde vs pantera, but I get the feeling that won’t happen politically.

Neither skayde nor turbo have a match at the ct, so it is possible for them to meet.

  12. Skayde vs Turbo or Skayde/Quack vs Turbo/Claudio would be mind boggling. I think doing a straight Skayde/Pantera match would cause political problems which is why it can’t be done.

  13. Let’s try this again.

Here’s what Quack said about the issue, from an interwiew going up on our site soon.

    — A hot topic for the fans online lately has been this CHIKARA
Welterweight title that’s been defended in Mexico recently and won by a
recent opponent of yours, Cassandro? What’s the deal with this belt? And
could we possibly see a visit from Cassandro in a CHIKARA ring?

It is entirely possible that Cassandro will come to CHIKARA in 2008. I am
glad that the Welterweight title turned up. We also rechristened a WCW
cruiserweight belt the “CHIKARA Middleweight Internet championship” some years ago,
and left it under a shrub in the outskirts of Mexico City, so I expect to see
that around Valiente’s waist sooner or later. I mean, that was the plan all
    along.

  14. I’m curious about these political reasons too. Hadn’t heard anything about it until just today.
