04/11: Mexico, interviews, Monterrey, Puebla

CMLL (FRI) 04/11 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Metálico vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Flash, Stuka Jr., Súper Nova vs Diamante Negro, Euforia, Nosferatu
3) Hijo de Fantasma, La Máscara, Valiente vs Ephesto, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone, Místico vs Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto

There a couple previews of Hijo de Fantasma. He recently earned his BA in International Relations, which sounds like a decent degree for a big career. In Ovaciones, he says his goal is to work on the 75th anniversary show, which is strangely reasonable for luchador goals.

Main event hype is about the tecnicos demanding a rematch after last week’s shenanigans. MedioTiempo reprints the notimex article twice on same page, but there’s still not much content. Mistico & Hector are still tag champs, Averno & Mephisto are due a rematch.

For no discernible reason, an AP story about Maximo got picked up everywhere. It works if you pretend you never heard of exoticos before, and Maximo is a new star.

Pimpinela is interviews about his career. He started out as non-exotico wrestlers, but found fan were shouting at him that he was gay, so the promoter told him to go with it.

La Parka Jr. protests Rey Misterio Jr. being nominated for Televisa Wrestler of the Year award, since he’s not actually Mexican after all. Parka suggests Mistico, Cibernetico or Dr. Wagner as better candidates and says Rey’s going to win easily. This is a little strange to me, because it’s recently (since the return of Konnan) felt like AAA considers Rey Jr. as one of their own who just happens to be wrestling elsewhere, but apparently that view isn’t universally held. Abismo Negro’s name never comes up in this discussion.

Parka says his left shoulder will require one more year of rehab, but he’s back in Celaya and warns he won’t be doing much.

4) Amapola b Princesa Blanca [CMLL WOMEN]
5) Arkangel de la Muerte, Ken-Swi, Shigeo Okumura b Celestial (Panama), Negro Casas, Sandokan

Okumura gave Celestial a martinete and rematches were vowed. I think I know where Okumura is losing his hair in ’08. This is the son of the original Sandokan.

I found these articles from the luchandolibre blog (based in Panama?), which seems good. The entry about this match wonders what happened to Amapola’s IWRG title, so they’re aces with me already.

DQ in the third match was because Polvora & Vaquero ran in and attacked the armed forces. That’s money.

Ciclon Furia is Enrique Gonzalez Melgar, 34, 10 years a wrestler, and originally from Guatamala! Always interesting when a non-Mexican turns up.

Crazy Boy returned on the DTU show, the last man appearing of a locker room emptying brawl, He dived off the same ledge he got hurt on at the last DTU show, though this time he didn’t try to do a moonsault and had the whole locker room catching him.

AAA-US: Last stop before Rey de Reyes. Two last people get in, and Abismo spends a last day as a rudo for now.

CAN52: A quintessential segunda and Dos/Mistico/Shocker vs the Guerreros.

FSE-US: Rebeldes vs those low on the segunda totem pole: Metalico, Starman, Super Nove and random tecnicos vs random rudos in the main event.

Note that next week, the new FSE episode airs on Friday. Actually, it airs at 5PM Eastern, and I just happen to have scheduled some work for my cable system between 2 and 6. Luckily for me, it reairs on Sunday.

04/30 AAA TV Lineup (Aguscalientes)

Previous: 04/10 (Toluca), 04/16 (Ceyala), 04/27 (Zapopan)

AAA TV (WED) 04/30 Auditorio Morelos de Aguscalientes
1) Billy Boy, el Ángel, Gato Everady vs Ángel Mortal, Gran Apache, Mr. Cóndor
2) Extreme Tiger, Halloween, TJ Xtreme vs Alan Stone, Chris Stone, Super Calo
3) Crazy Boy & Juventud Guerrera vs Jack Evans & Teddy Hart
4) Abismo Negro vs Black Abyss
5) Escoria, Mesias, Ozz vs Electro Shock, Head Hunter I, Konnan
6) Cibernetico vs Zorro [1, AAA HEAVY]

Projected air date (#835)
Mexico: 05/11
US: 05/31

I’m listing this as #1 contenders match, but the wording makes it sound like it’s only for one guy. If Zorro wins, he gets a title shot. If Cibernetico wins, he gets a pat on the back and a firm handshake of congratulations, I guess. TripleMania is looking like Zorro/Mesias in a rudo/rudo battle with the Hell Brothers finally facing the Clowns, but that doesn’t sound TripleMania level.

Black Abyss will be around for all of three weeks before getting into the on one on one match. That appears to be on a fast track to a mask match.

Juvi/Crazy vs Teddy/Jack is probably the best possible match with the Mexican Powers involved. I hope Crazy Boy is 100% when he comes back, because he’s surely looking forward to these matches and hopefully can make the most of them.

Apache family drama seems to be on pause this month. I’m not sure if that’s why they ran the injury angle, or if the cause/effect is the other way around, but I don’t think we’re getting a hair match for TripleMania.

4) Abismo Negro & Super Porky vs Black Abyss & Mr. Niebla

6) Cibernetico vs Zorro vs Mesias

Projected air date (#834)
Mexico: 05/04
US: 05/24

In most promotions, running the triangle match now means they’re not planning on running it later. In this promotion, I have no idea.

Black Abyss is clearly the mystery partner for the 04/16 taping. I’m thinking this is the Vipers taking the Abismo Negro gimmick and giving it to a new person, and it’s a rudo move. I’d think that’d be a tecnico move in AAA.

Jack Evans vs Alebrije = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Actually, if Head Hunter stays out of the way, that could be fun.

I’d lean towards a title change, but it’s not a certainty. Maybe the TV lead up will get a better idea.

Another win for the Clowns.
