04/27: AULL, IWRG, lineups

I went to the GALLI show, but I’m going to push that to tomorrow. Nothing huge, though more no shows than usual.

Arturo Rivera’s weekend column has breaking news on Rey Misterio Jr.’s retirement: it may happen in in five years. Perhaps. Also, May Flowers is done in AAA which gives Arturo the chance to mourn the lack of vets there.

Accion’s CMLL highlights were off the main event. Spots spots (including Garza and Mistico doing moonsaults together) and Mistico getting the clean win. AAA had the Cibernetico/Parka vs Zorro/Konnan match, which they had trouble making look action packed even in highlights. Konnan, the one guy in the match who has no business winning, got the win. There was as much shown after the match as before it, pushing Zorro vs Cibernetico vs Mesias. There was a good two seconds in here where Zorro didn’t look like a third wheel way out of his league. Don’t get me wrong, that’s an improvement.

AULL (WED) 04/23 Arena Lopez Mateos [Superluchas #261]
1) Cosmico & Eagleman b Corsario de Plata & Rollin Boy
2) Medieval, Trauma I, Trauma II b Hijo del Valiente, Shuriken, Valiente Jr.
3) Faraon jr., Kung Fu Jr., Mano Negra Jr. b Carta Brava, el Mosco, Epidemia
4) Mano Negra, Negro Navarro, Shu el Guerrero b Rocky Santana, Villano III, Villano IV
5) Blue Panther & Dr. Wagner Jr. DQ Canek & Villano V

Canek yanked Wagner’s mask, which is a pattern this week. This was clearly to set up a title match between the two, but it’ll have to wait quite a bit – you’ll have to go down a few paragraphs to find out more.

IWRG (THU) 04/24 Arena Naucalpan [Superluchas #261]
1) Rey Estruendo b Halcon 2000
2) Nemesis IWRG & Quarterback b Avisman & Back Jack
3) Aeroman, Chico Che, Sakura b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman b El Hijo del Diablo, Negro Navarro, Veneno
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Multifacético, Pantera DQ Fuerza Guerrera, Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000

Main event ended in a DQ when Fuerza yanked Wagner’s mask. Tercera was said to be especially good.

(Superluchas) Canek is under going right knee surgery. If what I read previously was correct, Canek had surgery on both knees in 2007, so something’s gone wrong. This knee surgery is going to sideline him until 2009. Outside of his Todos x el Todos appearance, Canek’s going to have a lost two years.

The Dr. Wagner Jr. media tour continues in SuperLuchas #261. Wagner says the word “emos” in this interview. $$$$$. I still do not know how freedom of expression = CMLL booking Dr. Wagner, but Wagner’s concept seems to be “I’m too awesome not to be booked, so they’re denying my freedom to express how awesome I am.” Also, Fuerza Guerrera says he’d go to CMLL if they’d called (and then stares at the phone, hopefully.)

Super Nova ended up replacing Ultimo Dragon on the NWE Spain tour, which means there were some CMLL vs AAA interaction with Juvi. Guess there would’ve been regardless, but this kinda makes AAA’s “Juvi only Mexican invited on tour” bit look dumb.

Yea, we’re short a match, so I’m thinking the Shadow/Sangre match will happen. I wonder how that went down

CMLL: I’d like to have a title match next week!
Comission: SURE!
CMLL: It’ll be Sangre Azteca putting up his Mexican National title against Grey Shadow…
Comission: Now, wait, isn’t Grey Shadow a foreigner from an unspecified country?
CMLL: Perhaps.
Comission: So wouldn’t I have to not allow this match?
CMLL: Well…PERHAPS Grey Shadow is from a another country – but which one?
Comission: Why, I don’t know! Even if he looks a lot like that Cuban Rocky Romero, I can not begin to hazard a guess.
CMLL: If you don’t which country he’s from, how can you say he’s not from Mexico?
Comission: … I see no flaw in that arguement! APPROVED! [uses rubber stamp]
CMLL: Thanks! Fine work keeping a close eye on stuff.

I had to get that in tonight, just in case they made another left turn, you see. This is better than anything I could possible say about Bronco. Couldn’t they have called him “Bronco Negro” since he’s a rudo or something other than being yet another Bronco? You think if Sagrado had continued to suck enough that they got rid of him quickly, they would’ve just reused the name for Mistico? For a company built on history and tradition, they do seem to expect people to forget when they’re reusing bad names and concepts for no particular reason.

IWRG (SUN) 05/04 Arena Naucalpan
1) ? & Halcon 2000 vs Anubis & Venom
2) Gallo Tapatio Jr. & Miss Gaviota vs Trauma I & Trauma II
3) Coco Verde, Cocohips, Cocolores vs Payaso Caronna, Payaso Meido, Payaso Terror
4) Centauro, Solar I, Ultramán Jr. vs Arlquein, Demony, Enterrador 2000
5) El Fantasma, Fantasma de la Ópera, Multifacético vs el Hijo del Pierroth, Fuerza Guerrera, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.

IWRG’s taping their Lucha Libre expo show for TV Azteca as well.

04/26: Mexico, lineup

CMLL (FRI) 04/25 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, ESTO, superluchas]
1) Pequeno Maximo & Ultimo Dragoncito b Pequeño Violencia & Pierrothito
2) Felino, Máscara Púrpura, Máximo b Diamante Negro, Euforia, Nosferatu
3) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Marco Corelone b Black Warrior, Olímpico, Universo 2000
4) Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Shocker DQ Atlantis, Toscano, Último Guerrero
5) Héctor Garza, LA Park, Místico b Averno, Mephisto, Terrible

Mistico challenged for the tag team title match to take next week. Seeing as CMLL didn’t announce their own date, that’s probably the plan. Oddly, and everyone noticed it, Mistico emphasized he was picking the date, not the commission. Perhaps he’ll be in trouble with them real soon. CMLL ignores that whole challenge in it’s news update, which makes me think Mistico wasn’t supposed to make it.

Semmiain tecnicos won in straight falls, the second when Toscano fouled Heavy Metal. They’re apparently pushing a hair match between the two. I’d be worried, but they’d have to finish any one of this feuds at some point and they don’t seem to be working at that.

Mini Mascara Ano 2000 is a chef and that job is profiled in Ovaciones today.

Mano Negra, Ultraman, Lizmark and As Charo will be reappearing on May 16 and May 18 as CMLL’s next returning legends.

Next Tuesday’s card is actually Wednesday’s previously announced Kid’s Day show.

CMLL (WED) 04/30 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Astro Boy, Sombra de Plata vs Artillero, Pólvora, Súper Comando
2) Mascarita Dorada vs Bam Bam, Shockercito, Nino de Acero Olimpicito, Pequeño Damian 666, Celestial, Pequeño Halloween, Mr. Aguilita, Pequeno Warrior, Pequeno Ninja Pierrothito [cibernetico]
3) La Sombra, Sagrado, Volador Jr. vs Fantasma Jr., La Máscara, Valiente [MEX TRIOS]
4) Marco Corelone, Místico, Shocker vs Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto

The two random new minis have been replaced.

CMLL (FRI) 05/02 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Kid Tiger vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica vs Hiroka, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Felino, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra vs Ephesto, Misterioso II, Virus
4) Alex Koslov, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas vs Black Warrior, Rey Bucanero, Toscano
5) Blue Panther, LA Park, Shocker vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Terrible, Villano V

They’re giving the Mistico/Garza vs Averno/Mephisto feud a week off. I guess Toscano/Metal started this week just so they’d have another feud next week.

GALLI has announces a show for 05/03

One side note: Huracan Ramirez apparently showed a license to SuperLuchas last time he was in Chicago, to prove he’s licensed by DF to use that name.

That’s great and all, but he’s still not Daniel Garcia. Daniel Garcia was the authentic Huracan Ramirez and anyone traveling internationally or working main events is doing so because of the work and notoriety gained for that name by Daniel Garcia. It’s a different situation because of that background of that gimmick, but anyone working the gimmick is leeching off the original’s success and having a license doesn’t change it much.

04/25: Wagner to lead protest march against CMLL

Dr. Wagner Jr. will lead a protest match on Sunday at noon, protesting CMLL not getting him good enough matches. Here’s Dr. Wagner Jr. doing a promo about this on Superluchas. Here’s my brain exploding. Let’s go to the google translation of his quote in the ESTO article:

“It is not right, in the middle of 2008, that one has to keep silent to keep their job. I appeal to students, workers, anyone in the public who have felt cornered in their workplaces or study to accompany my silent march for freedom of expression.”

Wagner’s looking for the right to tell his boss off, basically. (Further protests for the right to give your boss a Stunner and drink beer in celebratory manner are still to come, I hope.)

Wagner’s still upset CMLL didn’t put him on Dos Leyendas among other things and has made this known. Since CMLL is threatening to not book him at all for his recent comments, Dr. Wagner is taking it to the streets. Silently.

This is the greatest mostly insane thing I’ve ever read. We NEED video of this. I hoping either massive amounts of people follow Wagner, or it’s four kids, their mangy dog and a hobo. One or the other.

CMLL (FRI) 04/25 Arena Mexico
1) Pequeño Violencia & Pierrothito vs Pequeno Maximo & Ultimo Dragoncito
2) Felino, Máscara Púrpura, Máximo vs Diamante Negro, Euforia, Nosferatu
3) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Marco Corelone vs Black Warrior, Olímpico, Universo 2000
4) Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Shocker vs Atlantis, Toscano, Último Guerrero
5) Averno, Mephisto, Terrible vs Héctor Garza, LA Park, Místico

The big news coming out of this show does not seem to be a match – the only ongoing feud is the rehash in the main event – but the offical annoucement of the tag title rematch.

Next weekend is the Lucha Libre Expo, which would seemed to affect crowds elswhere. I don’t if it’ll make them go down (people have spent their entertainment money already) or up (they want to see more), but it seems unpredictable. I like Robert’s idea of waiting one more week for the Gran Prix and running it then.

When Minimo’s debut is the second biggest news item on a show, it’s a down week. AAA actually has a more interesting Friday night show even though it’s not a TV Taping:

AAA (FRI) 04/25 Arena Azteca Budokan
4) Alan Stone, Chris Stone, Super Calo vs Decnnis, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido
5) Rossy Moreno vs Estrellita [hair, cage]
6) Zorro vs Cibernetico vs Mesias [electric cage]

Stones/Guapos feud, someone loses their hair, and a possible TripleMania main event preview. I hope that’s not actually what they’re doing for TripleMania but it seems to be the path they’re on.

ESTO’s voting “tag titles are vacant”

Juventued Guerrera wearing a t-shirt of Juventud Guerrera.

CMLL (THU) 04/24 Arena Neza [Reforma via Jazzo]
5) Blue Panther, Mr. Credible, Negro Casas DQ Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V

Panther’s mask got destroyed.

(Reforma via Jazzo) Enrqiue Vera Jr. plans to make his Arena Naucalpan debut on May 11st. It seems to me he’s wrestled far more than the one time he’s claimed in this article, but perhaps Hijo de Enrique Vera is meant to be a different person.

CMLL (MON) 04/28 Arena Puebla
1) Blue Center & Centella de Oro vs Espiritu Maligno & Zigma
2) Fuerza Chicana, Furia Chicana, Policeman vs Cerebro Negro, Flecha, Kraken
3) Goddess, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Medussa
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Héctor Garza, Místico, Shocker vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

04/24: Mexico, lineups

CMLL (TUE) 04/22 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Celestial & Electrico b Fire & Mr. Aguilita
2) Leono, Molotov, Tony Rivera b Apocalipsis, Arkangel de la Muerte, Ramstein
3) Nosferatu, Ohara, Shigeo Okumura b Máscara Púrpura, Metálico, Mictlán
4) Alex Koslov, Máximo, Volador Jr. DQ Lizmark Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Dos Caras Jr., Heavy Metal, LA Park b Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Águila

Lizmark yanked Volador’s mask in the semimain.

Today in Ovaciones, Multifacetico challenged Mistico and Negro Casas to IWRG title versus IWRG title matches. So I guess IWRG doesn’t expect either guy back there any time soon.

(Reforma via Jazzo) Fuerza Guerrera is talking about creating a new version of his old Bravos trio (previously with Dandy and Tailsman) and says wrestling as an indy is much more dignified than the place he was just at. Pequeno Maximo wants to be known as Minimo. Does Damian get credit for that? The articles says Mini Maximo would be the first exotico mini ever, but others have done it outside of CMLL.

indy (SAT) 04/19 Union Americana, Chicago, Illinois [superluchas]
1) Rey Makawi b Electron
2) Angel de la Muerte & Bazooka b Rojo Impacto & Tornado
3) Diabolico & Horoscopo b Kamakazee & Rey Fuego

The tag mask/hair match is now on May 3rd. Maybe.

Mexican Art/Culture blog Mexside rated the top 10 best lucha libre masks of all time. (link via superluchas). Dr. Wagner should’ve knocked someone off.

Victor has recaps of Llaves & Candados and Caneda Tres.
