04/25-27 Lucha Times

Comcast is trying installation AGAIN this Friday, so things are still questionable. I have a new backup plan this week so maybe I can make this work somehow.

CAN52: Diamante Infernales vs segunda tecnicos, Guerreros vs tecnicos feud switches focus

AAA-US: Rey de Reyes Part 2. This airs way late on Saturday night on the West Coast feed. There (and only there), you get 3 hours of AAA, an informerical, and then overnight airing of 3 hours of AAA. Once again, someone in the US violates the torture rules of the Geneva Convention. SHAME.

FSE-US: Oddly, despite what was posted over on the Observer site last week, is not on this Friday. The Monday midnight airing is on, so that’s your (my) only chance to see a women’s trios and Perros vs Shadow/Valiente/Maximo. I don’t see it listed next Friday or Sunday either.

AAA-MEX: Konnan & Zorro vs Cibernetico & La Parka Jr., a match no one can possibly want to see actually happen in 2008. Zorro must like this idea even less than rest of us.

CMLL: Maybe only top 2 – if I’m reading the chart right, it’s only an hour show this week starting at 3:45.

FSE-MEX: Mictlan delivers a knockout performance. Random people in the main event. The least thought to match all week always seems to be the Coliseo semimain.

Cadena3: Wait, this means I forgot to check for results on this show today. Bad on me. Whatever happened, which I’ll find out tomorrow.

US: 06/07

Stallllllllllllll. Nothing happening here. AAA’s got to start doing something in the middle portion between major cards or we all may die of boredom. Top two matches could be from this time last year, the fourth match is only difference because Abismo’s on the wacky side, and the three undercard matches have nothing new to say.

Ozz and Kenzo are the seconds in the semimain. I thought it’d was odd Ozz was sitting instead of working at first, but then he’s probably going to be doing just as many spots in that match.

Estrellita and Ayako Hamada are seconds in the women’s match, not the usual men.

04/23: tag title status, Wagner status

(Superluchas/Univision/MT/Ovaciones) The DF Box Y Lucha Commission, lead by el Fantasama, will have CMLL do a Averno/Mephisto vs Garza/Mistico rematch for the belts at a date TBA. Tigre Hispano and Baby Richard will NOT be allowed to referee the match, which makes it sounds like the commission is blaming them. (This does seem set up by Garza’s referee requests in the press.) The reasoning for the rematch is the match was so excellent (to el Fantasma), these two teams are surely the best two teams in all the land and no tournament is needed. CMLL says they’ll announce the rematch date by Friday.

In other promotions, this would seem to set up other wrestlers working as special referees, but I can’t recall CMLL ever using that sort of stipulation. It does seem to open the door to Averno’s father, Rodolfo Ruiz, to get one of the two referee assignments. That doesn’t always work out for Averno, but it does signal some sort of spot happening.

I still don’t feel clear if this is the tag titles are meant to be vacated* or if Mistico & Garza are still champions** based on what the commission says. (Univison’s article says Mistico & Garza will be defending, but MT’s article makes the opposite assumption.) Hopefully, when CMLL gets around to updating their website about this, they’ll mention where the belts are.

* like when the Headhunters got DQed for excessive violence moments after winning the tag titles in
** as happened in 2001, when Satanico put on Mascara Magica’s mask to cause a DQ and cost Rey and UG the tag titles, the commission to ‘hold up’ the titles after Satanico was exposed, and a similar rematch was held

Ovaciones was back to it’s old format this morning. Maybe because most of the pages didn’t actually have content yesterday. Hopefully the new design returns at some point.

In Ovaciones version of this story, Fantasma says the commission will be paying more attention to title matches from here on out. I bring this up, not because I just don’t believe or because the “especially the one next Wednesday with MY KID IN IT” joke that’s too easy, but because the column goes onto suggest Sunday’s Grey Shadow vs Sangre Azteca match leading to a title match between the two. You know, Grey Shadow, the guy from the intermediate foreign country getting a shot at the Mexican National Welterweight title. Hopefully Fantasma would take that week off from paying attention.

Box Y Lucha #2867 headlines with Dr. Wagner no longer having to worry about being a puppet of CMLL, because they appear to have cut his strings. He’s gone for good, where good is maybe two months. Arturo Rivera’s column mockingly suggests Wagner join Santo’s group, so they can have the same matches every week because they don’t have many stars. Rivera also takes a moment to take wicked shots at WWA Tijuana promoter Benjamin Mora (who’d be in competition with AAA’s efforts in town.)

Terrible did an interview with Estadio Web to hype up the Lucha Libre Expo. Besides making sure to laugh at Shocker’s name when running over the list of those appearing, Terrible theorized that there’s a phenmon of lucha libre every ten years. Mistico is it now, “just like Vampiro Canadiense 10 years ago”. How many people did Terrible upset with that one?

That’s why he’s a rudo!

I’ll catch up on the board threads tomorrow. AAA TV thread and lucha times to come later.
