04/11: Mexico, interviews, Monterrey, Puebla

CMLL (FRI) 04/11 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Metálico vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Flash, Stuka Jr., Súper Nova vs Diamante Negro, Euforia, Nosferatu
3) Hijo de Fantasma, La Máscara, Valiente vs Ephesto, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone, Místico vs Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto

There a couple previews of Hijo de Fantasma. He recently earned his BA in International Relations, which sounds like a decent degree for a big career. In Ovaciones, he says his goal is to work on the 75th anniversary show, which is strangely reasonable for luchador goals.

Main event hype is about the tecnicos demanding a rematch after last week’s shenanigans. MedioTiempo reprints the notimex article twice on same page, but there’s still not much content. Mistico & Hector are still tag champs, Averno & Mephisto are due a rematch.

Other ESTO articles
AAA plans to work at least one show a month in DF, starting with TripleMania.
– Santo is working with UNICEF.

For no discernible reason, an AP story about Maximo got picked up everywhere. It works if you pretend you never heard of exoticos before, and Maximo is a new star.

Box Y Lucha posted a bunch of interviews
Pimpinela is interviews about his career. He started out as non-exotico wrestlers, but found fan were shouting at him that he was gay, so the promoter told him to go with it.

La Parka Jr. protests Rey Misterio Jr. being nominated for Televisa Wrestler of the Year award, since he’s not actually Mexican after all. Parka suggests Mistico, Cibernetico or Dr. Wagner as better candidates and says Rey’s going to win easily. This is a little strange to me, because it’s recently (since the return of Konnan) felt like AAA considers Rey Jr. as one of their own who just happens to be wrestling elsewhere, but apparently that view isn’t universally held. Abismo Negro’s name never comes up in this discussion.

Parka says his left shoulder will require one more year of rehab, but he’s back in Celaya and warns he won’t be doing much.

– and there’s a Picudo one with no text, so you’ll have to watch the video to find out whatever exciting news Picudo has to say.

AAA (SUN) 04/13 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Baby Fox vs Dr. Cianuro
2) Aguila Extrema & Virtual X vs Diabolik & Euforia (Monterrey)
3) Gato Everady & Super Fly vs La Momia & Ramses
4) Ayako Hamada & Billy Boy vs Fabi Apache & Gran Apache [ri]
5) Brazo de Plata, El Alebrije, Sangre Chicana vs Antifaz del Norte, Escoria, Zumbido

CMLL (MON) 04/14 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano, Legionario, SWAT vs Aguila Guerrera, Karisma, Mr. Rafaga
2) Lestat, the Tiger, Trueno vs Cerebro Negro, Policeman, Ramstein
3) Felino, Máscara Púrpura, Mictlán vs Diamante Negro, Ohara, Shigeo Okumura
4) Alex Koslov, Grey Shadow, Último Dragón vs Atlantis, Olímpico, Último Guerrero
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Héctor Garza vs Averno & Mephisto

I hope Puebla doesn’t have to pay CMLL to bring in Trueno. That would be unfair.

10 thoughts to “04/11: Mexico, interviews, Monterrey, Puebla”

  1. Hate to say it, but I agree with Parka on that Rey should not be nominated, but disagree that he is Mexican.

  2. Plus, Rey really did nothing to get nominated. Rey will never work a full year in his career again unless he takes off a full year to rehab.

I also think La Parka should take off a full year to rehab. No point of rushing a return, he will not lose his spot.

  3. Sounds like more fear that American wrestling is cutting into the Mexican market.

Once again, Palacio may host more WWE events than Madison Square Garden.

  4. Have to protect the territory and I don’t blame them. WWE already runs 98% of the world. Nobody wants lucha libre to end up like Puerto Rico.

Everybody will run more shows than MSG at this point.

  5. I remember how proud Victor Quinnones was when he got WWF on tv in PR back in 1998. He also did some big shows with WWE talent. Now they do full-fledged WWE shows.

MSG was charging $280,000 for rent five years ago. It’s going to skyrocket with the upcoming multi-million dollar renovation project.

True, everyone will run more than MSG, but Palacio will still host more WWE shows than any arena in North America. I never thought that would happen.

  6. If La Parka has said that Rey shouldn’t be nominated for a televisa award becaue he doesn’t wrestle on Televisa, then I’d agree with him, but to say he’s not really Mexican is just ignorant beceause Rey is of Mexican decsent.

  7. Still doesn’t make him mexican but thats obviously no reason not to include him.

    And whys UDragon insane?

    Did i miss something?

  8. To say that you have to be a Mexican to be eligible for the award is kind of racist. Rey is American. Case closed on that.

Again, it’s all fear because WWE has a product that Mexicans have taken to. No one in AAA or CMLL wants WWE down there, even just once a year.

  9. The trofeos are not Mexican exclusive, many foreigners won the soccer awards. What Parka Jr says is what he thinks, he is not an official sponsor, AAA’s current magazine has Rey Misterio Jr on its cover, so much for the “fear”.
