03/22: Mexico notes, Zorro hurt, lineups

ESTO says Hector Garza already wants an injury, blaming the loss on the right wrist he hurt during the match. I didn’t see ESTO’s bios of Lutteroth and Black Shadow yesterday, so there’s the link for them today. SuperLuchas has Perro cutting a promo after the match. Steve Sims says the show was a sellout.

AAA’s injury cursed 2008 continues: Zorro will be out several weeks after tearing something in his right leg during the Rey de Reyes final. The article says he expects to be back in April (so maybe he’ll only miss a couple weeks of TV?) and lists him as #1 contender to the AAA Title. AAA still hasn’t updated their website since pre-Rey de Reyes.

Arturo Rivera outs Skandalo as Panico’s son, and says he’s been hearing from promoters frustrated with CMLL forcing Skandalo on them. Arturo also says Magadan is working in the CMLL offices, which breaks the rule of all the announcers being employed by Televisa and not the promotions.

CMLL (TUE) 03/25 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Puma Kid & Semental
2) Atomo, Fantasy, Pequeño Olímpico vs Fire, Mr. Aguilita, Pierrothito
3) Alex Koslov, Felino, Máximo vs Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V
4) La Sombra, Sagrado, Volador Jr. vs Damián 666, Ephesto, Misterioso II [MEX TRIOS]
5) Marco Corelone vs Terrible

Each of the three not previous announced matches has something interesting going on. This is Villano III’s first match back since last December’s appearance on the IWRG’s Santo card. The timings makes it seem as though he was just secretly suspended for three months. This is also Atomo’s first match in a while. Puma Kid was a name TJ Perkins was using while here with the Havana Brothers. It woudln’t make a great deal of sense for him to be back working openers, but, hey, Grey Shadow’s around.

CMLL (FRI) 03/28 Arena Mexico
1) Mini Olimpicio & Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Damian 666 & Pequeño Halloween
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Rosa Negra
3) La Máscara, Máximo, Valiente vs Ephesto, Sangre Azteca, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Heavy Metal, Shocker vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Dos Caras Jr., LA Park, Místico vs Atlantis, Olímpico, Último Guerrero

V5 and Panther keep feuding. Shocker may be back. Main event plays of the PPV semimain, where Mistico & LA Park get revenge against the guys who beat them up after the match. Neither guy from the main event works this week.

CMLL CAN52 Guerreros del Ring #120
03/16 Coliseo: Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Mictlán vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
03/16 Coliseo: Sagrado, Último Dragón, Valiente vs Lizmark Jr., Olímpico, Sangre Azteca

Not sure what that means for FSE, except they’re obviously getting the Volador/UG program.

03/21 Arena Mexico (Dos Leyends) open thread/results

CMLL (FRI) 03/21 Arena Mexico [superluchas, el martinete]
1) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori b Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
Sahori beat Sujei in the third fall.
2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Tzuki b Pequeño Damian 666, Fire, Pierrothito
Mascarita pins Damian
3) Olímpico, Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca b Grey Shadow, La Sombra, Sagrado
4) Mr. Águila, Terrible, Villano V DQ Blue Panther, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.
Blue Panther lost the first fall by ref stop during a beatdown, then yanked Villano’s mask for the second fall DQ.
5) Atlantis, Místico, Último Guerrero b Averno, LA Park, Mephisto [relevos incredible]
Both teams fall apart – Park abandons his partners prior to the loss, Atlantis and UG beat up Mistico and strip his mask after the match
6) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo b Héctor Garza [hair]
Hector suffers ‘injury’ in first fall (~2 min) loss, comes back to win second fall in under two minutes via usual moonsault. Perros all get involved as a distraction in the third fall, Humberto Garza Sr. counters them, but the referees watch that and not Perro fouling Hector.

Links to more recaps coming in the morning.

Original Post: I don’t think there’s working live audio, but I’m guessing someone will get the PPV and post it live. Maybe on El Martiente? Perhaps on superluchas? I don’t know, I wrote this post on Thursday.

I should have results up by 1AM, if I can’t get on wirelessly earlier.

Edit: I can’t get in wirelessly, but while I’m sitting by a console and being underwhelmed, there’s the opener.

03/21: Dos Leyends preview, Guadalajara

CMLL (FRI) 03/21 Arena Mexico
1) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Tzuki vs Pequeño Damian 666, Fire, Pierrothito
3) Grey Shadow, La Sombra, Sagrado vs Olímpico, Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. vs Mr. Águila, Terrible, Villano V
5) Atlantis, Místico, Último Guerrero vs Averno, LA Park, Mephisto [relevos incredible]
6) Héctor Garza vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo [hair]

NotiMex summaries how we got here. Ovaciones compares this to Angel Blanco vs Solitario. In ESTO, Perro Jr. says this match could be toughest of his career and Mistico is fine witht he match he got, even though it’s not the match he was originally promised.

I’m not really torn about missing live coverage of this show. There’s not much drama here

– Perro is going to beat Hector. There surely will be a fake finish of Hector nearly winning, but no one should expect him to win here.
– One, or both, of the semimain teams will fall apart before the finish. I’m betting on Mistico’s team.
– none of the other matches matter.

Blue Panther vs Villano V will probably continue, though since neither guy has a title and neither guy seems close to losing their mask, I’m not sure where it can actually go to. I think this is Grey Shadow’s last big chance to establish himself as a notable star. He can hang around in the middle forever, but he’s not going to have a much better chance to change his rep before everyone makes up their minds. Minis and Women’s match could set up title feuds, or could just be 7 minute sprints to leave more PPV time for other things.

CMLL’s preview notes Mistico is no stranger to teaming with either Ultimo or Atlantis. There’s not a lot of new ground on this show. I think it’ll still do well, because the names in the main events are important enough to draw, but it’s not very interesting from afar. Rey de Reyes ended up being just as predictable, but there was more going on.

Ovaciones has a brief article on Bestia Salvaje’s passing. SuperLuchas looks back at his hair win over Huracan Sevilla in 1992, which seemed to be as much about the ref as the wrestlers.

Come to think of it, I’m amazed Purpura didn’t take a shooting star press bump off the Doomsday Device. It was for a 9 minute match.

MUZAK WE WILL ROCK YOU! Never been so happy to hear a cover. A good match too, though I still want to see Negro/Sangre more than Ultimo/Volador if Ultimo’s going to look at the fans every 4 seconds.

Bestia Salvaje (1962-2008)

Various websites are reporting Bestia Salvaje, real name Juan Manual Rodriguez, passed away this morning at 7:30 AM. The family has not released the cause of the death, though superluchas believes it was liver disease.

Bestia passed away in Guadalajara, where his career started. He ultimately found most of his success in CMLL, where he worked as a regular from the late 80s until April 2005. Bestia was a rising rudo with big hair wins in the early 90s before becoming changing to the veteran lose most of those matches. Bestia beating El Hijo del Santo was the main event of the 55th Anniversary Show and main evented the spring pre-cursors to the current Dos Leyenda shows, including a tag hair loss teaming with frequent partner Scorpio Jr. but falling to Negro Casas and El Hijo del Santo.

Bestia won the National Tag Team titles with Pierroth Jr., the CMLL Tag Titles with Scorpio Jr. and the CMLL Trios Titles with Sangre Chicana and Emilio Charles Jr. Bestia’s last big runs were as part of the Guapos (with Shocker, Scorpio Jr. and Emilio Charles Jr. in different variations) and as part of the Tailban with Scorpio and Emilio. After that last group drifted apart, Bestia disappeared from CMLL, but still wrestled regularly for IWRG and Guadalajara. Bestia’s had only wrestled a few times since last August. The last known match I have is one this past January at Arena Jalisco, Guadalajara.

Bestia Salvaje was 46.

I would expect there will be tributes to him tonight at the IWRG show, tomorrow at the CMLL show and probably on AAA TV (by Scorpio) if they haven’t finished editing this week.

03/20: Mexico, Xalapa

CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 03/18 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Pólvora & Zayco b Súper Camaleón & Súper Tri
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Loco Max b Mictlán, Neutrón, Tony Rivera
3) Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus b Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Máscara Púrpura
4) Damián 666, Ephesto, Misterioso II b La Sombra, Sagrado, Volador Jr.
5) Alex Koslov, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone b Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V

If you like two fall matches, this show was for you. 2nd, 4th, and (maybe) 5th all were straight fall wins. Marco pinned Terrible to win the main event. Damain led his team to a straight fall victory over the trios champs. Both of these results set up matches already announced for next week.

CMLL (TUE) 03/25 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
4) Damián 666, Ephesto, Misterioso II vs La Sombra, Sagrado, Volador Jr. [MEX TRIOS]
5) Marco Corelone vs Terrible

I’m hoping for no title change, because those rudos will never team together. From Friday to Sunday to Tuesday, CMLL’s running three straight singles main events (at least.)

CMLL (TUE) 03/18 Arena Xalapa [luis_bunbury @ box y lucha]
1) Gabriel o Gabriela, Jaguar, Samuary, Tigre Cosmico b Crazy Man, GMC, Perro Mocho Jr., Perro Mocho Sr.
2) Amapola, Hiroka, Medussa, Mima Shimoda, Rosa Negra b Dark Angel, Goddess, Luna Mágica, Marcela, Sahori
3) Astro Boy, Brazo de Platino, Super Brazo b Escandalo, Hooligan, Nitro
4) Máscara Año 2000, Toscano, Universo 2000 b Blue Panther, Felino, Grey Shadow
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Místico b Atlantis, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto

Toscano returned to replace Lizmark Jr. I assume it’s one time thing. I don’t know why they had a ten woman match, but it sounds amusing.

Ovaciones runs it’s annual bio of Salvador Lutteroth Gonzalez. Tommorow is 111th years since his birth.

(Jazzo/Reforma) Volador wants a mask match with Ultimo. Probably not a good idea for him.

Marco Corelone chats on esmas on Monday.

NotiMex has a bio of Mil Mascaras.

Box Y Lucha #2862 previews tomorrow’s card. I should do that!
