03/23: FMLL, IWRG, Accion, Coliseo

note the small amount of flame/ESTO

The FCW FMLL show last night was almost derailed by Blue Demon Jr. & El Hijo del Santo being detained by immigration. Santo says someone called immigration to alert them of Santo and Demon coming thru, but they did end up making it to the show anyway. Santo never specifies who he thinks did it, but it seems like he has someone in mind. There’s pictures of the show over on So Cal Uncensored‘s board.

SuperLuchas #256 has many pages recapping Dos Leyendas. They confirm there was no moment of applause for Bestia Salvaje, which is very disappointing. I think I understand what I believe to be the reasoning – the night was about remembering two other people and they didn’t want to take away from it – but I completely and totally disagree with it.

IWRG (SUN) 03/16 Arena Naucalpan [Superluchas #256]
1) Ambar & Bacteria b Nemesis IWRG & Taz el Feroz
2) Chico Che & Star Boy b Rey Estruendo & Rockero del Diablo
3) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Fantasma de la Ópera, Filoso, Freelance
4) Capitán Muerte, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Ventarron b El Fantasma, Miss Gaviota, Zatura
5) Black Dragon, Multifacético, Pantera b Cerebro Negro, Cyborg, Xibalva [capitans hair]

Multifacetico took Cyborg’s hair, pinning him directly in the third fall. Toscano was replaced by Zatura.

Solar I was scheduled to replace Groon in tonight’s IWRG taping. That’s a slight difference. Ovaciones also says Shocker’s going to work here, since he’s not getting booked by CMLL much. (I read that as “suspension”, but he’s supposed to be back next week.) Did Tarzan show up tonight? Will Multifacteico’s super push include a title win? I don’t know, IWRG’s site is still down.

ELL MEX (SUN) 03/23 Chicago, IL [superluchas]
1) Rey Macahui b Medico Loco
2) Angel de la Muerte & Bazooka b Elektron & Mascara de Jade
3) Diabolico & Horoscopo b Kamikaza & Rey Fuego
4) Discovery, Principe Franky, Rayo Lazer DQ Angel de la Muerte, Dorado, Rey Azteca

I didn’t even know THIS show was going on.

ELL MEX (SAT) 03/29 Chicago, IL [superluchas]
1) Kato Kung Lee Jr. & Zuleyma vs El Dorado & La Sirentia
2) Magno & Principe Franky vs Black Fish & Mano Negra
3) Lola Gonzalez vs Xochitl Hamada [EWWL WOMEN]

This is another tribute show for Chela Salazar, who’s recovering from cancer. Locals will be added to the undercard.

Accion:

CMLL: Hector vs Perro. Hector got to kick out the double stomp before going down to Perro’s actual finisher.

AAA: Hell Brothers killing Head Hunter I, Abismo Negro and Zorro. Zorro gets destroyed, we don’t see any of Abismo’s turn, and Head Hunter is the only rudo to get offense in, just enough to set up a missed moonsault and a Cibernetico chokeslam for the ring.

CMLL (SUN) 03/30 Arena Coliseo
1) Sensei & Sombra de Plata vs Carrona & Cholo
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Astro Boy, Neutrón vs Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro
3) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Tony Rivera vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satánico
4) Alex Koslov, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Misterioso II, Olímpico, Virus
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., LA Park vs Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V

Semimain looks good. Segunda would be fun if it airs. The rest of it…

Fox News picked up the Super Mojado gimmick. There’s a match. Gringo Loco had a Mojado shirt (complete with a stick figure swimming) at the lucha last show I remembered to go to, so I think he wins this by a week.

  1. Fire or no fire – a spear through a table like that has to be one awesomely timed spot. Can’t wait to see it!

    FSE?

  2. That Solo Luchas site updates fast! Multifacetico won the belt and the Coliseo singles match ended CLEAN! Who could have guessed that?;)

  3. I think it was FMLL that had the problems. FCW is next week at the Shrine Aud in LA.

I don’t know how FMLL/Rocky survives. He always gets small crowds.

  4. That pic reminds me when Chessman speared Ozz through the ropes and onto an incoming
Headhunter I heading towards the ring.

  5. WON.

Says RdR did a disappointing non-sellout of 11,000. If San Luis did 12,000, RdR probably had about 9,000 based on the attendance curves when reporting AAA. Still with ticket prices what they were, it could be a AAA gate record, and one of the biggest in Lucha history.

WON also said Latin Lover was supposed to be the surprise wrestler, so I was almost right on that. I just guessed because it’s his hometown and he has no problem working AAA indie shots.

WON says most pre-1995 AAA footage was erased by Televisa. I wonder how much CMLL has been erased?

WON says RdR had lots of injuries. Everyone on this board predicted that. Chessman messed his back up. Halloween broke some ribs. Zorro’s groin. Extreme Tiger’s knees.

  6. I’m pretty sure AAA still has tapes of pre-95 footage. Televisa just erase their copies. Even if they didn’t, you can find them on the internet. I’m sure Pena had his own personal library.

  7. Pena had lost his passport something like 15 times or so. He couldn’t keep track of video tapes, magazines, or anything like that. If Pena had video of that stuff, they wouldn’ve used it for RdR. I can see Pena not having accurate video library.

  8. But there has to be someone with a decent video library? Oh well, I guess they can always buy Bob Barnett’s volume 1-24 if they need some matches.

You think the ticket prices kept it from being a sellout?

  9. I always hear stuff about Televisa erasing video and begin to buy it… until a match in perfect quality from Triplemania ’93 airs. A match that never originally aired on any channel back in 1993 and was thought to be lost forever. Someone explain that to me.

  10. Well, WON did say “most” footage. It wasn’t that long ago when they showed footage from the very first tv taping in Veracruz to promote the 15 year anniversary of AAA. So we know they have it.

It’s possible that Televisa just didn’t want to be bothered digging up old footage. Lazy and liars they are.

I wonder what ever happened to all the passports Pena lost?

  11. “A match that never originally aired on any channel back in 1993 and was thought to be lost forever. Someone explain that to me.”

My guess is raw video tape from major/important shows are kept around, but week to week TV wasn’t saved.

  12. “My guess is raw video tape from major/important shows are kept around, but week to week TV wasn’t saved.”

This sounds like the most likely scenario.
