03/11: Cuatro Caminos, Wagner sad, Mistico talking to TNA? (also sad)

AAA (MON) 03/10 Arena Cuarto Caminos [RFC]
1) Black Mamba & Penumbra b Ahijdao de Oro & Black Fenix
2) Estrellita & Fabi Apache b Mari Apache & Rossy Moreno
3) El Brazo, Iron, Street Boy b Lord Byron, Rio Bravo, Tito Santana II
4) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz b Insolito, Principe Diamante, Sangre Chicana
5) El Elegido, Hombre sin Miedo, La Parka Jr. b Antifaz del Norte, Electro Shock, Zorro

Somehow, Parka wrestled here but Laredo Kid missed the show.

CMLL.com says they’ll be bringing back legends on Fridays and Sundays to lead up to the 75th Anniversary. (Oh no, Rayo.)

Actual headline: Dr. Wagner is sad. :( He’s sad not to be on Dos Leyendas, and he’s got no real idea why CMLL pulled him. Wagner does mention he’s still on good terms with CMLL.

(WrestlingObserver via 411Mania) Mistico contacted TNA about getting booked there, in between his CMLL bookings. I wonder if Mistico actually can do this, if CMLL will actually let him do this when it comes time to happen. This is clearly not worth investing much thought until he actually appears in the ring, because we’ve been here before.

WAGNER (SAT) 03/08 Plaza de Toros Torreon [el siglo de torreon]
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Héctor Garza b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, LA Park

The four way turned into a tag match, I dunno. The article is less about the match and the show, and more a take down piece on the referee, Chabelo, for letting these guys brawl all around the arena and not exerted any authority on them. In his defense, Wagner and Park (and probably the other two) have done the same brawls everywhere from Arena Mexico to Chicago and no referee has managed to contain them. The article says the local commission may end up sanctioning the referee.

(Reforma via Jazzo) Amapola plans on beating Marcela to become a double champion, taking Dark Angel’s hair and then going back to Monterrey to take Diana’s hair again. Well, why not. Amapola also says she’s on another level, which seems familiar. Meanwhile, Maximo wants to take Sangre Azteca’s mask and Averno’s CMLL Middlweight Title. I don’t like his odds as much.

Noticas Oaxaca has long bios of Anima I and Anima II.

Ultimo Gladiador told TerceraCaida he’d like to retire from lucha extreme matches. Probably should’ve joined a different faction.

  1. I thought Dave Meltzer CMLL news could not be trusted?

If this was true, TNA can’t afford him. They thought paying Judas $1300 per show was too much. Considering that Judas would of only work 5 dates per month.

All lucha guys should stay away from TNA.Ask Abismo(who the fans hated,XPAC heat),Juvy,Konnan,LAX(look at them now),Garza(long story),Judas and non lucha guys for that matter. TNA sucks, who would Mistico face? Macho Man Jr, Stone Cold Shark Boy,please…

  2. Haha, check out the official sites upcoming cards page for Guadalajara – It’s still showing Sunday past’s lineup, with “RATMAN” in the main event.

That beats the shit out of any name anyone could’ve came up with during that online competition a few years back when he was HSN! :D

  3. I just realized – if Amapola says she WANTS TO BE a double champion, that means her IWRG title is (finally, officially?) gone.

Or she just forget about it.

  4. Meltzer had a lot to say about Lucha this week. I got two issues in the mail box yesterday.

AAA on PPV in Mexico for the first time? I believe that SKY will do a AAA PPV, as they’ve done it before, but I don’t think Televisa will allow US carriers to air it, even though US carriers would.

$2 million dollar branding effort by AAA? Ok.

He also said that Mexicans no longer consider Lucha “their” wrestling, and said Smackdown has replaced Lucha as the most popular form of wrestling with Latinos. He’s right.

  5. “He also said that Mexicans no longer consider Lucha “their” wrestling, and said Smackdown has replaced Lucha as the most popular form of wrestling with Latinos. He’s right.”

I’m pretty sure he’s refering to the Mexicans that live in the States, not the 2 million Mexicans that live in Mexico who attend Lucha Libre shows every year. Perhaps we should send Meltzer to Mexico City so he can do a walking poll in the heart of Mexico City as to what they think wrestling is.

  6. Who is on Smackdown that represents for the Mexicans? Rey,Vickie and Chavo. It’s really not a big deal.He judging this off US hispanic audiences ratings(which is more than Mexicans). The big lucha shows still draw well in the US so I don’t get what he’s trying to say? The move to MyNetwork tv might change things.

Lucha is not their wrestling just like Puro is not just limited to Japan. We live in a different world. Everything is expanded these days, nothing is exclusive. WWE is bigger than NOAH and New Japan in Japan,is it really a big deal? NO

  7. “Latinos” are not Mexicans. Smackdown is on an open network. If either AAA or CMLL could get a show in Univision, things would be pretty different.

  8. “”Latinos” are not Mexicans.”

    In Observer world they are.

“If either AAA or CMLL could get a show in Univision, things would be pretty different.”

In Observer would that show wouldn’t exist b/c there’s no time to cover anything that isn’t WWE or MMA.

  9. Sorry, I meant US Mexicans.

I agree that things would be different if AAA or CMLL had better coverage on Univision or even Telemundo. Keep in mind, when AAA as LLL ran pilots on Telemundo, they bombed big time.

Look at WWE’s success in Mexico. And it’s all done on a basic cable station(52MX), in a country with a much lower penetration of pay tv subs.

Even though ??? says that Smackdown is on an “open-network”, I can point out that RAW also does big numbers with Latinos. My mentality is that AAA should be doing such overwhelming numbers on Galavision, that Univision would be forced to upgrade AAA to Univision or Telefutura which are “open networks”. Sadly that’s not the case.

I can also point out WWE’s amazing success on mun2, which set a record back in December. AAA can’t even break the top-10 Hispanic Cable ratings.

Still, AAA does about 300,000 viewers per week in the Hispanic 2+ category. This is the result of AAA airing twice a week. 300,000 viewers is more than WWE has in Canada or England, and look at the big business WWE does in those countries.

AAA is good for 2,500-5,000 in cities like Chicago, LA, NY, San Jose, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, and Houston.

  10. AAA and CMLL would need to do lots of things besides having a show in Univison… WWE has had several Mexican Americans as world champs, while the Mexican promotions don’t really have any as a main eventer (well, maybe Mascara Purpura is what CMLL is waiting for).

Something I guess they’re on their way to do is establishing stables as groups, similar to soccer teams, so that fans can identify with them, Mexican Soccer is huge with the Mexicans/Mexican-Americans over there because they feel part of the team…

  11. I’m wearing my UANL Tigres hat as I type this. What a game on Saturday vs. Rayados. That game was much more emotional than anything I have seen in wrestling or Lucha in some time.

I agree, groups that fans can relate to would be a smart move for CMLL.

Soccer skews a little bit towards the first generation Mexican though. The second-generation not as much. That’s why San Antonio does not have an MLS team, or regular appearances by Mexican soccer teams.

  12. “AAA is good for 2,500-5,000 in cities like Chicago, LA, NY, San Jose, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, and Houston.”

Without ANY promotion. Sometimes we never even know the shows are taking place… till they’ve already happened.:)
