Today’s international focus of lucha libre will be on the 02/01 AAA Taping, where NOAH wrestlers Naomichi Marafuji and Takeshi Mosishima make cameos (in a match likely to be decided by a Mr. Niebla run-in.) To me, the CMLL show is much more interesting.
CMLL (FRI) 02/01 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Neutrón Tony Rivera vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Mascara Purpura, Mictlán, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satánico
3) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Shocker vs Misterioso II, Mr. Águila, Villano V
4) Grey Shadow, LA Park, Místico vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza, Terrible
5) Atlantis & Último Guerrero vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
First Generation Satanico Student vs Second Generation Satanico Student. All of these guys have been rudos since hooking up with Satanico, so this is a quite unlikely match. Averno and Mephisto will always be grouped in with the Ultimo Guerrero style of rudos but have never been able to supplant UG. They would not, even with a win here, because UG’s young enough that he won’t be going anywhere for a long time, but Averno & Mephisto can move to the same level.
Since I now totally believe Averno vs Mistico is the Anniversary main event (which forces me to believe they have a plan for September), I’m going with a title change here to continue the build, and maybe we can get some Averno/Mephisto vs UG/Rey rematches down the road. This one should be pretty good too.
Semimain is the debut of Grey Shadow, right in the middle of a couple feuds. ESTO lists him as 176 cm and 82 kg, having wrestled in the US and Japan and having been at the same wrestling school as Alex Koslov. Jose Moreno, earlier guessed as possibly the man beneath the mask, first the last requirement. Can’t find much results from him past ’05.
Let’s hope whomever it is doesn’t pull a Sagrado.
Even without Grey Shadow debuting, that’d be an interesting semimain: Perro versus two of his big rivals from 2007. Like all CMLL rivalries from 2007, these are completely unresolved feuds with both sides talking about doing the big match and not actually doing it. Crowd should be into this match, and I’d presume the Perros are going to end up cheered by the end.
Shocker and Mr. Aguila are working third from the top. Satanico’s teaming up with his Third Generation guys against a returning Mascara Purpura. Neutron’s out due to injury.
Averno vows to win the the tag team titles tonight, no matter the cost. NotiMex sees the title match as a toss up. Atlantis respects his opponents, saying Averno & Mephisto are a 9.9. (UG/Atlantis are a 10, natuarlly.) LA Park talked to ESTO about not really caring if he’s a tecnico or rudo, and defeating Dr. Wagner at the special IWRG show on Wednesday.

3) Quinta Dimension & Sigma b Extassis & Faraon de Occidente
4) Pandillero I & Pandillero II b Ruby Gardenia & Socal Crazy
5) Durango Kid & Silver King b Chilango & Volador Jr.
Rudos got the main event win with a little help from Rey Bucanero. Bucanero worked with the rest of the main event crew on the LA Dojo show, and will be back here on 02/10 to face Volador in a tag match.

5) Black Terry, Enterrador 2000, Hijo del Cien Caras b Bogeman, Multifacético, Rayo de Jalisco Jr.
Rayo attempted to give Hijo de Cien Caras a martinete, but Caras slipped free, fouled him, and pinned him. Serves Rayo right. Veneno slipped in a foul on Pantera, who appears to be wrestling in his mask again here.

3) Hijo del Cien Caras, LA Park, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. b Dr. Wagner Jr., Rayman, Rayo de Jalisco Jr.
Rayman was hurt in the main event, and Rayo left to help him to the back. Despite being down 1 to 3, it still took Park sneaking in a low blow to beat Wagner. But Park did win.
Mr. Reyes posted photos from Thursday’s IWRG show.
WWA (THU) 01/31 Auditorio de Tijuana [d3v1lb0y @ box y lucha]
4) El Dandy, Super Astro, Tarzan Boy b Damián 666, Ramses, Rey Misterio Sr.

Third fall of the main event saw Shocker pinned, Garza pinned, and Garza sneak back in to yank Wagner’s mask. Tarzan turned into the semifinal.
RFC referenced this earlier this week, but Milenio talks more about upheaval in the Monterrey Box Y Lucha comission. The commissioner was forced out, just a day after being honored for his work and right before weigh-ins for a boxing match.
