01/19: Rey & Ultimo back together?, Mexico results, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 01/18 Arena Mexico [ESTO, superluchas, Ocioso @ box y lucha]
CMLL (FRI) 01/18 Arena Mexico
1) Bam Bam & Mascarita Dorada b Pequeño Black Warrior & Pierrothito
2) Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus b Fabián el Gitano, Mictlán, Starman
3) Felino & Heavy Metal b Misterioso II & Sangre Azteca [torneo, 1st]
4) Averno & Mephisto b Flash & Último Dragón [torneo, 1st]
5) Damián 666 & Mr. Águila b Super Nova & Valiente [torneo, 1st]
6) Black Warrior & Olímpico b Alex Koslov & Marco Corelone [torneo, 1st]
7) Averno & Mephisto b Felino & Heavy Metal [torneo, qf]
8) Black Warrior & Olímpico b Damián 666 & Mr. Águila [torneo, qf]
9) Averno & Mephisto b Black Warrior & Olímpico [torneo, sf]
10) Rey Bucanero & Último Guerrero b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Místico [pi]

Crowd was noticable more behind Wagner than Mistico. Tecnicos took the first fall, Rey & Ultimo got back to the old ways to win the second. Third fall turned into a dive sequence – Mistico on UG, Rey on Mistico & UG, Wagner on everyone…except UG pulled Rey and himself out of the way, and Mistico took the full brunt of the dive. Mistico was unable to continue, and the rudos beat Wagner for the win. After the match, they tried strechering Mistico out, only for Wagner to attack him.

Wagner appears to still be a tecnico, just not a good teammate because of his giant ego. Super Luchas notes Wagner was still getting a cheers after attacking Mistico. I hope they’re not surprised at this point – the Arena Mexico Dr. Wagner fans are die hard fans and will not be swayed.

Meanwhile, CMLL.com’s note on the match says “Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero revived their pact of friendship and unity inside and outside the ring.” There’s a bit more about this in the cards.

Black Warrior & Olimpico made it farther in the tournament than I figured, but Averno & Mephisto beat to win this block. It’s an interesting tease – will they go from beating one (sorta) Guerrero team to challenging another for the titles? (No.) CMLL was kinda vague on the date of the title match before, but they stay today that’ll be on 02/01.

CMLL (TUE) 01/22 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Cyber Black & Perverso
2) Fantasy, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito vs Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Halloween, Pequeño Violencia
3) Fabián el Gitano, Flash, Metálico vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satánico
4) Heavy Metal, La Máscara, Valiente vs Damián 666, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Último Guerrero

CMLL (FRI) 01/25 Arena Mexico
1) Sombra de Plata & Trueno vs Hooligan & Loco Max
2) Felino, Máximo, Stuka Jr. vs Diamante Negro, Ephesto, Misterioso II
3) Alex Koslov, Sagrado, Último Dragón vs Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Olímpico
4) Dos Caras Jr. & La Sombra vs Averno & Mephisto [torneo, final]
5) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Místico vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

It’s not a relevos incredible match, it’s Rey back on the rudo side, even teaming with Atlantis of all people. This happened pretty quick. If you watch the pre-match interview on superluchas, it sure sounds like this is the new status quo, but I’m kinda holding my breath until we make it thru this match without Atlantis and Rey turning on each other.

CAN52 GdR has
01/13: Fabián el Gitano, Flash, Metálico b Arkangel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skandalo
01/11: Amapola, Hiroka, La Nazi b Luna Magica, Marcela, Princesa Blanca
outside the ring: Nitro, who seemed to elect himself leader of Los Rebeldes as well.

  1. WTF??! No minis title match???! And replaced by the fucking women just to rub salt in the wounds!

Fuck whoever the genius was who made that decision!

  2. When was the last time Violencia wrestled in CMLL? Why haven’t they re gimmicked Mini Violencia?

  3. Too long! – Violencia was awesome, i miss him. I think it was around Summer 2004 when he disappeared from CMLL (at least, Arena Mex & Coliseo) – not all that long after he got the wolverine gimmick/look.

  4. Violencia last worked in ’04 I believe. I think the mini keeps the gimmick b/c he gets huge heat with it on indy shows he does.

Are you really that surprised Henrik? I didn’t have much faith in the title match airing since this show didn’t have the Torneo the week before. It sucks but what can you do?:(

Tuesday’s Arena Mexico show will tell a lot about where they are heading with Bucanero. Either he’ll turn on his team completely or work with them only when he is opposite Atlantis. I’m not sure if I want to see Atlantis turn or not though.

Mini’s on Tuesday! YAY!!!:D That will make up for no hockey next weekend. Nice random group of mini’s as well.

Friday’s card is only interesting b/c of the top two matches. The undercard looks pretty bad. I’m interested to see if facing Bucanero/Guerrero regularly will get Mistico motivated a bit more. From the photos it looks like he debuted a new spot last night.

Dos Jr./Sombra seem like obvious winners but you never know with the impending Atlantis turn being a possibility. They could do rudos vs rudos and have Atlantis turn there and cost Guerrero the belts. Who knows with this promotion.

Cubs – match #4 and #5 have the wrong winners listed.

XEJ TV changed their website and the feed is down.

  5. It sucks but what can you do?:(

    —————-

Curse and abuse the (albeit anonymous) moronic idiot of a TV show producer to let off some steam and make me feel a bit better! :D

The minis trios match on Tuesday and the main on Fri are pretty much all that are of interest to me next week.

Even though there are a couple of ok guys in it, Fridays tercera in particular has the makings of one of the laziest mailed in abominations we’ve seen in a long time at Arena Mex.

  6. Replace Sagrado with La Mascara and that tercera would be the new replacement for Nyquill.;)

Cadena Tres could be decent enough today. And if you REALLY REALLY REALLY hold out hope, perhaps CMLL will go back and air the mini’s title match this week.;)

  7. Replace Sagrado with La Mascara and that tercera would be the new replacement for Nyquill.;)

    ————–

Hahaha, you’ll never believe me but i was actually going to say something to that effect with regards to if La Mascara replaced Sagrado – but folk are probably sick to death of me hating on La Mascara, so i thought i’d give everyone a break this time! :D

  8. I was thinking that if Atlantis was going to turn, he should’ve done it before his movie came out. He still might do it though. I think he could lose his mask at 75 in Sept.

CMLL might be fun this year.

  9. AAA just does not have any feuds that people really want to see. Mesias is gone, and he always drew vs. Ciber. That feud is done with Mesias in TNA.

Zorro’s heel turn flopped. He didn’t really develop an opponent. Chessman would’ve been a good opponent and I would love to have seen those two do a hair vs. hair match. I’m dreaming.

CMLL is doing a few interesting things. Park vs Perro. UG-Bucanero teaming again. Mistico trying new costumes and moves. Great minis division. CMLL could come close to doing 500,000 fans in ArMex this year. No wrestling group in the world can draw 500,000 to one venue in a year.

  10. Segunda sucked but you knew it would.

Nice dive from Starman, nice 30 second sequence from Angel Azteca and that was our lot.

  11. ANGEL AZTECA JR.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Early candidate for my spot of the year!!! That was one of most creative armdrags I’ve ever seen! Take back what you said last week Henrik!:P

I liked the opener. That is one awesome rudo team. They’re no original La Alianza b/c Sangre Azteca > Apocalipsis but they do a great job as ass-kicking rudos with fun offense. Hell, Apocalipsis is even improving!

  12. Now that was a shitty tercera. Why does Metalico not get any flack like we give La Mascara? Metalico is just as plain and clumsy. He reminds me a lot of Olimpus who was the most generic wrestler in the history of Lucha Libre.

  13. I want that shirt Blue Panther had. That was great.

People hate Mascara more because he gets pushed more. He’s in the same group of Mistico and Sagrado in guys I can’t stand.

And how has Zorro flopped? He hasn’t even started yet. Now that Mesias is gone, We can see if he can do good as a rudo.

  14. Meh, we’ve saw LA Park, Shocker and even Rey Misterio Jnr hit that armdrag before, only without the over-elaborate setup – i preferred his more simple Zumbido/Oriental cartwheel into a headscissors at the beginning! :D

But yeah, Azteca looked better (more individual and less generic) here tonight in the few glimpses we saw of him, than he did last week, so that’s a plus.

We’re not agreeing about much tonight though, i thought the segunda rudos sucked, and the tercera was ok, mainly thanks to the amazing Stuka who stood out a mile (as usual).

Ramstein especially disappoints me with every match i see of him and i think i have to come to the conclusion that, despite my Fugaz love, Ramstein sucks, he’s more like a US indy wannabe. He probably was really good when he had just been given the gimmick and was in La Alianza, but of the dozen or so matches i’ve saw him in this last few years, he hasn’t impressed me in any of them. :(

And at least we know that Metalico can go when he’s up for it, that he can be creative, and is not a pussy – he just sleepwalks through a lot of matches nowadays. La Mascara on the other hand is just the King of Shit and i’m restraining myself from going on a rant here :-p

I enjoyed the top 2 matches as well, they seemed to be working harder than the usual tuesday uppercard fare. Olimpico really sucks though.

Overall, not Friday night Arena Mex quality, but apretty good show for what it was.

  15. I’ve seen that armdrag from many people numerous times but the setup is what made it great for me. If he had just done it one fluid motion it would have been incredible. Hopefully DeporTV keeps it in this week’s highlight package.

I’m actually a big fan of Ramstein. His moves are devestating, he can carry much crappier tecnicos and he brings a veteran presence to matches. Would love to see his Neza work.

“And at least we know that Metalico can go when he’s up for it, that he can be creative, and is not a pussy”

How do we know that?:) I remember him looking good in the 2005 Reyes Del Aire as well as a few other matches from that year but I also remember La Mascara looking good in that same match and a couple of 2005 matches.

    Skipped the semi-main.

Main was awesome. Gonna see if I can try to get it uploaded along with the mini’s match next weekend. Valiente is just incredible and he and Mistico make a really fun team.

  16. Looks like no more Zona de Combate for me. This is the second week that it hasn’t
    been shown here in L.A.

  17. Cubs, you might wanna reread the results for the show; I think you’ve butchered them slightly. (you have Averno/Mephisto and FDT losing in the first round instead of winning, at the least)

  18. Tim. How hasn’t Zorro flopped? He turned at Triplemania, which was six months ago, and where is he today? He hasn’t “just started” like you say. If you remember, I was the one saying long before Zorro turned, that he should turn and feud with Ciber. I can now admit that it hasn’t quite turned out like I had hoped.

ChrisD. I think “butchered” is kind of harsh. Just a minor oversight.

  19. Zorro wasn’t going to get top billing with Mesias in the main feud with Ciber. Now that Mesias gone, maybe we can get a Zorro/Konnan vs Chessman/Charly feud now that Ciber injured himself. It might have flopped so far but I got hope for rudo Zorro.

  20. I think Zorro should’ve been given top billing vs. Ciber. But that’s the past.

I’d like to see Chessman and Zorro pushed more this year. Those are two guys worth building around. I’d also like to see some cool new characters.

  21. “Another good episode”. That’s what the AAA review on WON.com will say this week. It’s says the same every week.

Can’t wait to read Cubs and Robert’s reviews on this one.

  22. I was already e-mailed by a friend who saw the show and I trust and he said the tag hardcore match was beyond abysmal.

BTW, if you like the mini’s and don’t mind handheld footage – go here: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=laparkk

He put up segments of each fall from the Arena Neza match a week ago including two awesome spots by TZUKI! Electrico didn’t impress me all that much so maybe it’s for the best he isn’t on TV yet.

  23. Hey cubs, I think you made a slight mistake in this lineup…

    CMLL (THU) 01/03 Arena Neza
    3) Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween b Bam Bam, ***Electro Shock***, Tzuki

    It’d be quite amusing though.:)

  24. Thanks for the link Robert. That’s great stuff from Neza. Fans threw money in the ring in appreciation of the match.

Holy shit. I’m watching AAA and something strange happened. In the six-sided Guapos cage match, Alan Stone froze on the top of the cage. He just climbed to the top and put one leg over and that ended the match. He never touched the floor. His partners sensed trouble, and climbed as fast as they could to the top, pyro poured down, and all three celebrated on top of the cage. Then they climbed back down inside the ring. Stone was just too afraid to climb down to the outside? I’ll watch this over later if I ever sleep.

NotiAAA had footage of Ciber’s burns, and Crazy Boy’s backyarder slip and fall. What ever happened to angles where’s heels hurt faces as opposed to faces just hurting themselves?

  25. Your friend was indeed correct, the hardcore match was a nightmare. It was taped just after I attended an indie in Sarasota where Sabu beat himself up pretty bad before 100 fans. Makes me wonder how much pain Sabu is in at any moment, because he took a beating in Madero.

The whole show seemed pretty bad. Too much shit going on at one time.

  26. “The whole show seemed pretty bad. Too much shit going on at one time.”

That is straight out of the ECW playbook. It’s good to know Konnan hasn’t evolved in 12 years.

  27. That is the Galvision/Mexico logo on the screen, so it looks like footage from there. The graphic showing the fall count looked new. In the past, it was tagged with a sponsors logo. Oh well.

  28. I remember going to “House Party 96” where Paul. E did that long angle that overlapped several feuds at once. Taz/911, Eliminators/911, Rey saving 911, etc…. Konnan worked the show and you’re probably right, it shaped his views of what wrestling should be. He’s has said that was his favorite time period in wrestling.

  29. rob, just to confirm the minis title match aired on Gala Mx yesterday’s show. Mascarita was really impressive and the crowds were totally with him. They also aired the tourney and top match.

  30. Thanks Miguel! That is AWESOME news! CMLL rarely goes back to air old matches so they must really be behind Mascarita or the match was so good they had to air it. I’ll go with both.:)

  31. AAA is way too long for 3 hours. They replayed the main event and the tag title match from last week. The only good thing about that show was Fabi Apache/Billy Boy and Mari/Gran. Of course that’s how it is every week.

  32. WON.com recapper strikes again…

“The second match was fast paced and sloppy at times, but still it was an unbelievable match. I’m not anybody important to rate matches, but as a fan, I give it 4 stars and half. The ending kept it from beign a perfect match.”

  33. It shows how much the opinion of the smarks really matter since those are the top two draws in wrestling.:)

  34. Friday pictures are up. Looks like a crazy show. Mini’s match was on the big screen but obviously it won’t air.:P I hope some stuff makes Momentos though. Perhaps they’ll start showing more Momentos of unaired stuff with Mascarita around.

The segunda was very… uh… purple.:)

I’m not positive but I’m willing to bet Valiente did a new dive… his usual Valiente Special except over the ringpost somehow. Looks NUTS!

Ultimo finally debuted an Ultimo Dragon Jr.? Or maybe he just gave a mask away?

Main looks AMAZING. We need that uploaded yesterday.

  35. the minis title match aired on Gala Mx yesterday’s show

    YAAAAY!

I’m sure the GdR producer is a very nice and intelligent man really :D

  36. Atlantis and Lizmark Jr turn back to the Technico side

Rey Buccanero and Dr Wagner turns back to the Rudo side.
