AAA Mini Line - 01/13/07
Recapped: 02/06/07
This is the first of three Best of 2006 clips show. This one, and the next, are from AAA's year end party. This is great, just for the random people wandering around in gimmick and dress clothes. Like how the scarecrows stand behind the announcers during the opening standup, and Chessman just causally passes bye. There's also lots of family members and others I can't or wouldn't recognize. Dr. Alfonso Morales joins the announce crew again for this.
All the matches are joined in progress clips/highlights from previously aired matches, and are preceded by the announcers talking about the setup, sometimes with someone involved.
Octagon wishes everyone a happy Christmas.
Oriental talks about his tournament match with Zumbido - which he lost, and I don't think Dr. Morales can believe they're using Orietnal to introduce a match he lost.
2005-11-12: Zumbido b Oriental [MEX MIDDLE, QF] - this happened in 2005 and aired in 2005, so who knows why this is on here. This turns into highspots highlights, and I guess there was enough of them that they wanted to show this match. Zumbido ends up with a wacky submission/pin where both guys have their shoulders down, though I guess Hijo de Tirantes can't see Zumbido. They must've been using a fish eye lens with the overhead camera, because it makes it look like the ring has five sides. (4:28)
Barrio Boys wish everyone a happy Christmas and merry new year.
Gronda II wishes everyone a happy Christmas and merry new year. And now I'm just going to start shortening that.
2006-01-29 Zumbido b Histeria [MEX MIDDLE, FINAL] - Apache is in Zumbido's corner. JJ Jr. is in Histeria's. Point to Zumbido. This one throws me, because it's three falls and they've finally parted with that by the end of the year. I'm don't have a definite position on one fall versus three falls (the main issues with three falls is a battle between lazy and non-lazy so maybe the concept is flaws or maybe the people using it), but I had a problem with AAA's inconsistent use of three falls. At least here in a title match it makes sense. Oh, yea, this is Zumbido faking a knee injury, screaming when the doctor touches it in such a manner his knee could not actually be hurt. Break interrupts this match, which takes out a fall (or did we just miss the first one? I forget.) Zumbido's selling his knee only when they're setting up match stoppage teases, and then going back to normal, including doing cartwheels and other things you wouldn't do if your knee was really bugging you. JJ interferes. I'm so glad we got all that JJ and none of it went anywhere. Again, Zumbido gets the win with a potentially self pinning move, but gets his shoulder up. (9:43)
Head Hunter I wishes...
Martha Villalobos wishes...
Speaking of Morenos who didn't win, here's Cinthia to talk about Reina de Reinas. I'm thinking Zumbido and Miss Janeth no-showed the party or something.
2006-02-18 Miss Janeth b La Diabolica, Martha Villalobos, Cinthia Moreno [Reina de Reinas, final] - Miss Janeth winning here still fascinates me. Not that she's a fascinating wrestler or the RdRa title is fascinating in the least, but the story of her winning her, everyone acting like it was the hugest thing ever for her (for unknown reasons) and Miss Janeth mostly vanishing (for unknown reasons) is a weird little mystery. It's the not knowing that makes this interesting; if AAA was a US or Japan promotion, people who talk to people who would talk to other people who eventually post it on the internet for me to read, and I would've read about in March and forget about her ever being missing shortly after. Mexico's weird that way. This match, and like all the AAA women's matches this year, went from below average to very bad. (13:26)
Cinthia reminds us she won the Reina de Reinas Internacional trophy.
2006-02-25 Cynthia Moreno b Ozaki, La Diabólica, Martha Villalobos, Miss Janeth, Amano, Nagashima [Reina de Reina INTL] - all the stuff with the Japanese women was bad. Not that they were given a lot to work with, but they didn't quite try either. They're showing the clips where Cinthia goes thru all three women, and that's their hardest working stretch. Anything with Martha was the worst. Martha had to be booking these matches, right? (5:45)
Cinthia wishes...
AAA wrestlers try fighting a bull. Well, for the most part, they try going into the bullring and staying far away from the small bull as they can. They show a clip of the bull going after Elegido, and Elegido getting out of there.
2006-03-04 Intocable b Alan Stone [bull terrier] - this isn't the no contest one, which was probably the best if not for the finish. Intocable, a thing man already, must've lost 10-20 pounds between here and the end of the wear, or he was just scary thin that day. Alan kinda grew on me by the end of the year, but I'm not a huge fan of him here. AAA really over does the bull terrier stip; we got like four of them on TV, all with the same two feuds. They work them as best as they can, but it gets old. Alan does a springboard plancha to the floor here which either foreshadowed or inspired the no contest one; didn't notice till I watched it again. I'm not sure if Shocker ever interfered in a match without it backfiring. He sure had a low success rate. (10:37)
2006-03-10 Intocable NC Alan Stone [street, identity] - oh, so they are showing this match too. That explains why I had it in my notes. Yea, I'm not going to watch this one again. Hey, Shocker out to screw it up again. That man has some problems. Some issues, if you will. Neither of them should've been allowed to be cowboys after this. They should've have to become either construction workers or Native Americans (8:28)

Noti AAA
- hey, remember when Scorpio Jr. joined. (Hey, remember when they randomly
dropped Emilio's name on the website?)
- Chessman and Cibernetico did NOT win the tag titles.
- Cibernetico debuted Muerte Cibernetica. That didn't work out for him.
- Electroshock and Zorro feuded. That didn't work out for me.
- hey, remember when Martha and Diabolica feuded and had awful matches? They
never did the blowoff for that, unless this bull terrier match was it. I like
how Tirantes is bumped for the finish, but it still counts. How does that
work?
- remember the Grand Traitor turn, which didn't happen on the show of that name
and Electro was king a heel before hand?
Chessman wishes...
Polvo talks about Relevos AAA matches, leading to
2006-03-10 Casandro, Charly Manson, Electro Shock, Hator b el Ángel, Pimpinela Escarlata, Rey Cometa Jr., Zorro - which he's not in, but whatever. AAA seemed to drop having two refs in matches at some point in the year, or at least scale in way down. I think it was just having refs work less, and not all of them made every taping. They never did anything with Pimpi/Cassandro either, did they? Cassandro is another disappearing act. And then there's Electroshock here. I like Angle ignoring cane shots because he's yelling a t fan. I don't have much use for the rest. (10:10)
Gran Apache wishes...
At the bullring, the announcers try to get El Apache and Billy Boy to talk. That doesn't go well. Apache's trying to figure out if he retired Billy Boy or not. Porky Claus runs in on the segment.
2006-04-30 Gran Apache b Billy Boy [hair]: Yea, I just saw this, though you didn't. Upon watching the post match, all the Tiffany stuff is supposed to build to Fabi's run-in, but that happened after what I saw. I like how they're playing Mexican telenovela music, because this is totally a Mexican telenovela angle. (14:41 including post-match)
Cibernetico wishes...
Announcers talk to Octagon, talking about Rey de Reyes. Did they slightly bury Vamp here? I think Morales is acting (?) like this is the first he's heard of all these great AAA accomplishments this year and they're all so very impressive, he can't actually believe them till he sees the clips. Or I may just be making this up.
Pinata!
Announcers talk to Scorpio Jr.. He lost at Rey de Reyes. Both Scorpio and Arturo agree to pretend Shocker didn't exist. Santa Porky runs Scorpio off.
Why would you play soccer with a bull around?
Announcers talk to Cibernetico and Chessman, who talk about the Hell Brothers being awesome. Run in by Santa Porky - Cibernetico hugs him, and then turns on him! Best thing ever.
2006-03-10 Parka Jr., Octagón, Vampiro b Chessman, Cibernetico, Muerte and Konnan, Killings, Joe and Scorpio Jr., Shocker, Zumbido [Rey de Reyes] - On the other hand, this was not. Hey, look, Vampiro gets the big win. (20:17 or forever)
There's quite like seeing Alliens in a suit. They close the show with Octagon showing off the Octagon piñata and wishing everyone a happy Christmas and such. Haha, Apache beats up the piñata.
