12/26: Mexico

CMLL (TUE) 12/25 Arena Mexico [cmll, ova, TAKER @ elmartinete]
1) Sensei & Sombrita de Plata b Artillero & Pólvora
2) Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween DQ Bam Bam, Fantasy, Mascarita Dorada
3) Fabián el Gitano, Máximo, Metálico b Diamante Negro, Nitro, Skandalo
4) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Shocker b Apocalipsis, Averno, Pierroth
5) Sangre Azteca b La Máscara [MEX WELTER]

Sangre hangs onto the title! A mild surprise, Sangre even escaped La Mascara’s campana. He’s now been champion for a full year, though this is the first time he’s done anything with it on TV since he won it (though he’s defended it elsewhere a bit.) I hope he does now.

Apocalispis replaced Lizmark Jr., MIA. (Olimpico was shown on the poster, so I’m not sure what’s going on there.)

Mini Damian fouled Dorada in the segunda. The CMLL news about this feud must’ve been written in a hurry, because Dorada is referred to as Mascarita Sagrada and they tease a mask vs mask feud (which would be tough.) The Minis cibernetico is a week from this Friday and should push this feud father on.

Arturo Rivera mentions that Decnnis and an AAA security won a 10,000 peso dance contest at the AAA year end dinner.

DELGADO (TUE) 12/25 El Paso
1) Huniko b Reo
2) Punisher b Fuego
3) Blue Man & Serpiente Blanca DQ El Guerrero & Scorpio 2000
4) Impostor Jr. & Scorpio 2000 b Rey Escorpion & Tiger Man
5) Cobarde Jr., Ecplict, Mango b Epidemia, Mystico, NASCAR [pi]

CMLL FSE #67

CMLL FSE #67, aired in the US on 12/09, taped 11/11

At least Mr. Mexico is aware he’s feuding with Leono, but it was a total nothing match. I don’t think this feud is getting Leono over, but I don’t know if they care all that much. I’d actually just like to skip ahead of to the hair match, get that one fall finish where Mr. Mexico powerbombs his opponent unnecessarily hard and then puts him in a submission while posing, and get the hair cut. That’s the best this feud can offer.

Main event killed some time.

CMLL CAN52 #107

CMLL CAN52 #106, taped 12/02, aired 12/08

I’m sure it works out better for CMLL financially to run all their shows at Arena Mexico for this stretch, rather than rent out some place else. Long term, that might not be so much the case – it’s impossible to watch these shows without thinking about how empty the building looks. It’s the same size crowds which were bad for Arena Coliseo DF, but a 1/3rd filled building there is maybe a 1/9 filled building here. The TV gives you the impression you’re watching promotion in a lot trouble. In reality, things seem to be going better than that, but you wouldn’t know it.

They should’ve moved these shows to whatever 1000-2000 seat building they could get. Or they should’ve not made these shows the TV tapings, and taped from Arena Neza or anywhere else. This setup hurts the matches on this show and probably will continue to hurt the other Sunday shows for the rest of these tapings. A good match loses somehing if there’s no one around to react to it.

This setting really hurt the women’s title match. It was a good match, maybe very good, but when the noise from the people who are actually interested in the match is drowned out by the vacuum of emptiness that was Arena Mexico on this night, it loses some of it’s a potential. Wrestling, lucha libre, is all about getting people to react and working off those reactions. When your eyes and ears are drawn to the lack of reaction, it hurts even a well worked match. This match would’ve been much more memorable in front of a crowd that wasn’t outnumbered 10 to 1 by empty seats.

Since we’ve now convincingly proven Marcela and Amapola can have fun matches against each other, it’s time to move on to something else. It’s actually past time to the Dark Angel title match. Even if it’s not a title change, they need to move Sarah back into the title picture before people completely give up on it.

Main event had absolutely nothing to do with the main event of the End of the Year show five days later except the same people being involved. They didn’t tease tension, they didn’t set up anything to build to the changed lineup. Maybe they only decided it after they saw the crowd.

12/24: Mexico, Neza

CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 12/23 Arena Mexico [ovaciones, cmll]
1) Fantasy & Shockercito b Fire & Pequeño Violencia
2) Metálico, Molotov, Super Nova DQ Loco Max, Nitro, Skandalo
3) Flash, Leono, Máximo b Dr. X, Ohara, Shigeo Okumura
4) Dos Caras Jr., La Mascara, Rey Bucanero b Averno, Mephisto, Sangre Azteca
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza, Terrible b Atlantis, Black Warrior, Olímpico

Perro yanked Atlantis’ mask for the main event win. Garza (re?)injured his right leg in the first fall and hobbled thru the rest of the fall. La Mascara replaced Volador Jr. in the semifinal, which led to more Mascara/Sangre’s feuding. Super Nova got fouled to end the segunda.

About Arena Neza’s cage match tomorrow
Previous: Olímpico, Virus, Dr. X, Ramstein, Tony Rivera, Super Nova, Astro Boy, La Máscara
Today in Ovaciones: Volador Jr., Virus, Dr. X, Ramstein, Tony Rivera, Super Nova, Astro Boy, Satanico

Not so much with the intrigue any more, except guessing which man beats Daniel Lopez. (Volador?) They are adding a Dos Caras Jr. vs Mascara Ano 2000 heavyweight title match to the show, and you decide if it’s better or worse.

BAJA (TUE) 12/25 Rosarito [aledesp @ Satanico’s Mansion]
1) Black Spider vs Migra, Huracan cs Cuchillo, Bobby Lee Jr., Transformer, Custom, Ricochet [cage]
2) Inferno vs Nicho el Millionario [WWA LH]

Rayo de Plata (TUE) 12/25 Arena Coliseo San Luis Potosi [El Sol de SLP]
1) Brujo Cosmico, Salome, Sombra del Misterio, Vision vs Anticristo, Gato Salvaje, Leopardo Venom, Mascara Infernal
2) Futuro 2000, Lover Boy, Maniaco, Piscis vs Belcenu, Mr. Marca, Turbo X, X Turbo
3) Rayo de Plata vs the Black Bull

Maniaco is returning from being a big star in the US, according to the article. Who knew? Mistico is scheduled to return to SLP in February.

12/23: IWRG, Neza, highlights

IWRG (THU) 12/20 Arena Naucalpan [ovaciones]
1) Tortuguillo Ninja I & Tortuguillo Ninja II b Nemesis IWRG & Rockero del Diablo
2) Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro, Puma King b Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II, Kid Tiger
3) La Parkita, Mini Kato, Voladorcito b Bracito de Plata, Espectrito I, Pentagoncito
4) Freelance, Multifacetico, Ultreman Jr., Veneno DQ Black Terry, Kai, Masada, Yamato
5) Bogeman, El Hijo Del Santo, Pantera b Cerebro Negro, Hijo del Cien Caras, Villano III

Villano III replaced Enfemero Jr. CMLL has previously told it’s wrestlers they can’t be on any cards Santo is on, so this could be the end of Villano 3 (and maybe all the Villanos) in CMLL. I don’t think that’ll happen, because it’s Villano III and not Loco Max, but it’s wroth watching. Villanos aren’t scheduled for next week anyway.

CMLL (TUE) 12/25 Arena Neza [Heri99 @ box y lucha]
1) Chac-Mol, Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II vs Dr. Muerte, Mohicano I, Mohicano II
2) Negro Casas & Starman vs Máscara Año 2000 & Sangre Azteca
3) Olímpico vs Virus, Dr. X, Ramstein, Tony Rivera, Super Nova, Astro Boy, La Máscara [cage, hair, mask]

This is a special Christmas show. Since Tony lost his hair not too long ago, I’d guess on him getting him getting the win back on Virus. It doesn’t seem like a certainty; Ramstein’s been such a focal point here, I wouldn’t be shocked if he lost his mask. La Mascara also could get replaced, since he’s working the main event in Mexico the same night.

CMLL (SUN) 12/30 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Kid Tiger vs Súper Comando & Zayco
2) Bam Bam, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito vs Fire, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
3) Fabián el Gitano, Metálico, Tony Rivera vs Ohara, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) Heavy Metal, Leono, Sagrado vs Máscara Año 2000, Pierroth, Sangre Azteca
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Casas, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Olímpico, Último Guerrero

No results from Sunday yet. Main even could be fun if Wagner’s working and not posing. Averno & Volador may be feuding, based on their matchups, but then they work against each other a lot regardless. Not too enthused about the FSE taping for this week.

(Marco Rivera @ Box Y Lucha) NOAH’s Marafuji and Morishima are expected to work AAA show(s?) sometime in January and/or February.

Arturo Rivera‘s column talks about missing the AAA diner (sounds like Televisa made him to go Arena Mexico instead.)

DeporTV highlights are what you saw on CadenaTres (if you saw it), but shorter. It looks likes the Azteca crew has been kicked out of ringside and is instead shooting from the area where they’ve been sticking photographers at the big shows.

Accion

CMLL: main event form Arena Mexico. Good to see Aguila has his crazy rooster hair back. Lots of tecnico highlights. Perro actually hit LA Park with the easily and canvas when he went for a tope (which looked great, but makes you wonder why Park didn’t see it coming.) Park got stretchered out, so you’d think the rudos could just win. Nope, they get DQded and pull apart Shocker’s pants.

AAA: three way title match from Guerra de Titanes! Did this all air in one show after all, or is the cage match next week? Cibernetico is one guy who benefits from being cut down to highlights. He gets the clean pin on Zorro after a chokeslam, gets the Stunner on Mesais, Sect walk down, Hijo de Tirantes is distracted by them, and Mesais hits a low blow and his finisher on Cibernetico. Hijo de Tirantes is not at all distracted on the fire table spot, which make me wonder why a) the Sect just didn’t run in before and b) why they needed a distraction to get in a foul. LOGIC HOLE = AAA

TODOS PORL EL TODOS (!!): It’s listed as the final between Santo, Demon and Pentagon, but we do get the Demon dive to Super Muneco that “knocks him out.” His head does hit the guardrail, but I’m skeptical he got knocked out here. Muneco gets a neckbrace, and the commission explains the changed rules. Demon reveres a suplex into a small package for a pin on Pentagon, Santo gets a plancha to the floor on Pentagon, then brings it back in the ring for a top rope tope and the camel clutch. That’s it. Pentagon Black pulls of his own mask for the finish.
