Konnan Big in TNA?

I was hoping this “Konnan Big to TNA Mexico’s show” was some message board fiction. I had read about the pre-show bit with the Spanish announce crew and a Random Mexican, but didn’t put it together till the photos and post on superluchas.

LAX ended up confronting Konnan Big. I don’t know why I’m brining this up right here, but Konnan Big and Mr. Texas feuded over the FILL Heavyweight Championship in 2005. So, if one the members of LAX had secretly been Mr. Texas, that may be the connection that got him here.

Why in the world would TNA bring in Konnan Big? He got over as a local star because he was pushed insanely hard versus local TV celebrities – he got over because the promoter decided they’d do whatever it take to get him over (and look at how ACM is doing now). He can’t work, he wasn’t a good promo, all he had was a look – which apparently hasn’t meant much since leaving NICE, since he’s done almost nothing. Maybe that’s why he was here – Wagner/Aguila/Abismo/Mistico/whomever else had actual bookings and Konnan Big was available.

This would’ve been cool with Dr. Wagner Jr. Konnan Big, not so cool. TNA, not so cool. Writing two posts a day about this TNA in Mexico show which I still don’t see how is going to draw a soul, not so cool.

This bit didn’t make the TNA PPV and so I think it’s just publicity for the TNA Mexico shows – maybe they’ll splice it into their broadcast of the show. If that’s it, then was just probably not worth the effort but nothing horrible. If they use him on TV, and the tapings are the next couple of days, then TNA is crazier than usual.

(I’m sure Konnan Big is a wonderful person.)

  1. Konnan big is working the same Martes Nice thing but for Televisa now. Which is the important thing for TNA, I think Televisa Mty is airing their show, and they will surely help the show with publicity, especialy with Konnan Big cutting promos on them in their local programing. So, for Monterrey, it could work… at least they’re producing way more noise than in their previous visit.

  2. That confrontation with Gail Kim was horrible. Konan Big is really bad on the mic.

You can probably thank Hot Stuff Hernandez for Konan Big on TNA. I wonder if they’ll refer to him as “Konan Big” since they did use to have Konnan in there. Not sure how that would work.

I did watch Jay Lethal’s promo (its lower on the SuperLuchas page) and that was awesome. Easily the best Macho Man impersonation I’ve seen. 5 years ago, I would have watched TNA just to see Jay Lethal and some of the other guys, but now with how crappy their shows are, I just wait for someone to post stuff I might want to watch on youtube.

  3. At least superluchas has the Irapuato results:

1- Mascarita Divina, Octagoncito y La Parkita vencieron a Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Histeria y Mini Charly Manson con enredadera de Mascarita Divina a Mini Abismo (14′25′)
2- La Secta del Mesías (Cuervo, Escoria y Espíritu) vencieron a La Familia de Tijuana (TJ Extreme, Halloween y Extreme Tiger) cuando interviene Chessman a conectar sillazo a Hallowen; Escoria cubre (10′14′)
3- Elektroshock y El Zorro vencieron a Los HellBrothers (Charly Manson y Chessman) cuando interviene Halloween a taclear a Chessman, Elektroshock cubre (15′56′)

  4. I thought TNA’s tv this past Thursday was not bad at all. Main event was a nice mix of top stars and young guys who still need to be elevated. Much better than WWE’s product in my opinion.

I wish the local promoters in Mexico would not interfere, and just let a TNA show be a TNA show. Can you imagine if tickets to see the Police at Arena Monterrey were not selling well, and the local promoter by booking Los Tigres del Norte to attract more people to the concert?

  5. Tigres del Norte probably ask(300,000 dollars) for more money than The Police so I guess that’s a bad comparision… it’s easy to say that if your own money is not at risk, but the promoters in Mexico don’t want to end losing money like last time when they just let TNA be TNA.

  6. Then why book TNA in the first place in Mexico, if they can’t just be TNA? If I remember correctly, when TNA came last time, they booked Cibernetico, and there was something of an outcry against having someone on the card who can be seen in MTY regularly.

Los Tigres del Norte $300,000? And you think they can ask for more than a group like the Police? They’re expensive, but not that expensive. You can still get them for $50,000 a night in most places. But there’s always a clause in the contract that they get a piece of the backend, so they can earn more if the show does well.

  7. This is way out of topic, but according to the business magazine, “Expansion”,

    “””

    “””

    60 million divided by 200…

  8. rob,

TNA is Total Nonstop Action. they’re an american wrestling promotion based out of Tennessee, but run their shows at Universal Studios in Florida. it’s where Ron Killings wrestles, when he’s not wrestling for AAA.

  9. I think they are saying that Tigres are generating 60 million dollars total.

Chui, are you going to TNA in MTY?

  10. I’ve never seen a full TNA show, so I’m not really interested, even more important, I’m short in cash…

  11. rob,

TNA’s top stars are Kurt Angle, Sting, Christian Cage, Booker T, Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, Steiner Brothers, Homicide and Hernandez, Ron Killings, Christopher Daniels, Kevin Nash, Abyss, Rhyno, a bunch of other well known wrestlers. Jeff Jarrett runs it.

past superstars include Mesias, Konnan, Hector Garza, The Naturals, Andrew Martin, Abismo Negro.

    they’re good.

  12. Acually Mesias is still under contract to TNA, he’s just resting, rehabbing or something.

TNA’s product is better than WWE’s, they need to stop trying to compete with WWE and give the fans what they want.
