10/28: Santo show issues, Accion, DeporTV

KrisZ quotes a el martiente post quoting a el Diario Record article which says many of the announced names for the 16 man Santo mask tournament are looking as if they won’t be participating.

OUT?
– Fishman Jr. (everyone remembered he doesn’t own the gimmick)
– Canek (previously mentioned knee surgery)
– Tinieblas (“other commitments”)
– Rayman (doesn’t want to lose CMLL (GDL?) bookings)
– Rayo de Jalisco Jr. (ditto)
– Mil Mascaras (pressure from CMLL)
– Dos Caras (pressure from CMLL)

would theortically have the same problems as those above, just not mentioned here
– Lizmark Sr.
– Mascara Sagrada
– Angel Blanco Jr.
– Solar I

Left:
– Hijo del Santo
– Blue Demon Jr.
– LA Park
– Super Muneco
– Hijo de Solitario
– Hijo de Anibal

At the Santo press conference, it was stated that all the names weren’t signed (though it’s dumb to announce names and you don’t know you can deliver.) Getting people to participate in this was always going to be tricky, because you’re asking the participants to give up all hopes of getting CMLL related bookings and only promising one date – it’d be more appetizing if this was the kick off to a regular promotion rather than one show deal it seems.

I think the CMLL connection matters for Canek, but more so, this one booking would have to be worth more then the six weeks he’d miss because he pushed he surgery back.

The worst case scenario here, at least to me, is Mil or Dos or Rayo don’t work the Santo show in exchange for CMLL TV dates.

Ovaciones didn’t update it’s site till late today. The only news is the tag title match for next week, and Arturo’s column seems to be an older one being rerun (it makes reference to AAA shows in Arena Coliseo Monterrey.)

Accion had the usual.

CMLL main event: Dos has a double hiptoss spot which looks ludicrous. Corelone is doing his Superman dive inside the ring to the floor, and Terrible actually caught him. It looked good. Aguila did not do the same on Shocker’s slingshot tope con giro. As the only two left in, Dos pressed Perro, but a ref (fat and unfamiliar, wearing a black shirt, doing Babe Richard’s bit but not as good) got in the way. Perro hugged the ref as Dos went to German suplex him, and Dos dropped Perro to let the ref free. Dos shoves Perro down on the ref, blocking his vision, and tossed him the mask for the the DQ.

AAA from el Toreo – not a main event of the Pena show, but Alebrije, Elegido, Octagon vs Psicosis, Histeria and Mr. Niebla. This was the lights uot match, which just looked odd. It was more the Blue LIght match, with everyone wearing green neon to stick out. You know, if you can dive onto someone who’s laying on the floor, as Niebla does to Alebrije here, the lights being out really don’t seem tobe affecting things. Vipers beat Elegido for the pin.

DeporTV America Highlights from last Tuesday

3: Fabian el Gitano, Neutron, Stuka Jr. b Arkangel, Hooligan, Loco Max – We saw people holding an Astro Boy sign, but not the segunda. Arkangel and Hooligan are wearing matching split outfits. Leono gets hung in the ropes for a Hooligan guillotine senton con giro. Tecnicos tease stereo dives, Leono and Stuka get there in anyway, and Neutron picks up the clean pin on Loco Max

5: Atlantis, Black Warrior, Ultimo Guerrero b Blue Panther, Mistico, Sagrado – when you only get a minute, spending a whole long time on the setup for the usual GdI sit seems a bit of a waste. (It turns out they get three, so that’s okay) Usual comeback, Mistico ending up with a tornillo on Warrior. Sagrado and Panther get mid fall fall win on the guys who are challenging for the belts. Black Warrior has a horrible 619 on Mistico, and those two end up on the outside. Panther and Volador gets the better of the Guerreros again, Panther mostly misses on a pescado, Sagrado’s tope is far more on target. Warrior and Mistico come back in, Mistico goes for a La Mistica, Warrior shoves him off and fouls for the win.

CMLL CAN52 GdR #101

CMLL CAN52 Guerreros del Ring #101, aired 10/27 and taped 10/19 and 10/21 (link fixed)

Infernales came the closest to winning a match without allowing a tecnico team to ever get their comeback that I’ve seen in some time. Tecnicos won the first fall, beatdown started in the second, tecnicos got a comeback spot in the third and were almost immediately beat. If CMLL didn’t have three different rudo groups ahead of them, I’d think they were really going plays with this Infernales team.

If you haven’t seen it below for yourself, I wasn’t much impressed by Averno/Mistico. It was okay, but by the way they laid out the match and how the third fall was edited, it was just spot pause spot through the match and the spots themselves weren’t so great. It felt like a B- version of their match, as if they were doing it at a small spot show or thru some injuries (which surely was the case with Mistico.) I still prefer it to an effortless trios match but it’s not going to make anyone’s best of list.

Actual news out of this taping!

After the main event, which the rudos got disqualified for excessive violence, Mesias announced his AAA Title defense against Cibernetico would be on 11/11 in Irapuato (the next TV taping.)

Alan pinned Scorpio in the Grecos vs Guapos trios match, and AAA announced those two teams would meet in a hair match at Guerra de Titanes – which will be 11/30 (FRI) at Centro de Convenciones de Ciudad Madero.

Before the semimain, Zorro appeared and vowed Elegido would be taken out by the end of the match. Sure enough, Electroshock gave Elegidio a martiente for the DQ, and Elegido was strechered out with a neck brace. Ozz replaced Abismo Negro.

Polvo beat Pimpi with a foul in the segunda. Mini Histeria and Octagoncito were added to the opener, and were directly involved in the finish.
