AAA #643

AAA #643, aired in the US on 09/22, taped 08/19.

I’m sure Ayako Hamada has many great matches that I should seek out, and maybe she’s a great person. I never want to see another match with her again. It’s not directly her fault, it’s actually whoever is continually booking 6 minute long matches to go 14, but it’s Ayako who always seems to end up in them. All this was eight minutes of killing them (because this is a three hour show, and for no other reason) and then a six minute match tacked on at the end.

I hate these distended matches worse than the Mexican Powers hardcore stuff, if I think about it. At least then, they’ll set up a prop in the first two minutes and you know the match can’t possibly end until they get the spot with the prop in so you can safely tune out. There was nothing they were waiting for in the triangle match, just a signal from the back that it was okay to finish up now (and then they did it as quickly as possible.)

The Intocable/Alan Stone bit had the ghost of Antonio Pena all over it. Anyway, I know the mutual respect story they were trying to tell there, but they didn’t build it up going into enough. I guess the idea was to solidify Alan as a face, but fans were catching on to that anyway.

Zorro vs Chessman was clearly supposed to be for the UWA LH belt – after the fact. Either they changed their minds later, or they didn’t alert Zorro, or Zorro decided not to be alerted. It was treated as a title match after the fact, so – I guess someone didn’t have firm control of the situation, because there are way too many logistical problems here.

Like La Parka Jr. being introduced in the first hour of the show and highlights in commercials throughout but supposed to be a surprise participant in the main event. People in AAA have ideas, and some of them are actually good, but I don’t know that everyone’s on the same page or thinking them thru. That title match was another one that was too long – unfairly so for La Parka Jr., who’s doing the company some good by working thru his injuries and should be helped out a bit.
