Lizmark Jr. vs Perro Jr. is CMLL Anniversary Main Event

Both Ovaciones and Super Luchas are hearing from their sources the same Reforma reported earlier in the week: Lizmark Jr. vs Perro Aguayo Jr. in a match vs hair is the CMLL 74th Anniversary main event. Rumored press conference is still supposed to be Tuesday. Super Luchas says the match will be on 09/28.

Theoretically, we’ll get a strong semimain (though it depends on who’s cleared to wrestle – more on that later), but that’s a horribly disappointing card. I think I would rather see Terrible vs Blue Panther, all things considered. It may still draw good, because it’s Perro in a hair match, but it’s barely more than an Arena Coliseo B-Show feud (some of those have been actually better than this.)

Lizmark Jr. is quite obviously losing his mask.

  1. This can be good draw, but not a good match, hope we gonna see some good matches in the card.

  2. Name wise, for the hardcore and always demanding ArMex crowd, it is alright… it’s gonna suck big time, but guys will take a big name fall over a quality match everyday.

This is a great investment, now, whenever a match ends with the typical masks challenge bit, we won’t be able to say “it is not happening, this ain’t smackdown!, you know”.

  3. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist but this doesn’t make sense on many levels. My theory (at least for now) is that CMLL is stuck… they don’t know what to do for a main event, don’t want to be worried about building a real program up since nobody has the brains to book something good anyhow and they don’t want to be on the hook for a huge amount of cash in the case of getting Wagner, Guerrero, Mistico, etc. to participate… UNLESS IT’S NECCESSARY.

    Which leads to my theory…

Last year the Mistico/Black Warrior mask match wasn’t announced until after their September 15th match if I recall correctly. 13 days before the show they announced the main event. So you’re telling me this year they know what they are doing 36 days before the show?

    I think not.

Most likely this is CMLL testing the waters to see what kind of reaction the press will give the match and how the fans will react. If there is little interest, I have no doubt we’ll be seeing some mid-September changes. If it goes over big time and early tickets start moving fast, this is your main event.

I’m betting on a new match being announced at some point in September. We may still get Perrito vs Lizmark Jr. at the end of the show with Liz Jr. dropping his mask (and hopefully disapearing forever) but I’m thinking they won’t be going at it alone. Perhaps a Blue Panther/Atlantis combo will be tossed into the mix or even Panther/Terrible or Garza.

So I wouldn’t encourage anyone to start putting together fantasy Anniversary Show lineups just yet.

  4. I think someone at CMLL jumped at the gun and released the match waaaay too early.

Even if they announced the Mistico vs Warrior on Sept 15, they obviously knew that much earlier. Releasing the main event now, even takes away from this friday’s show, why would someone go to see those two bums now in a match which is beyond meaningless if a month later they’ll be in a stip match.

So, I think CMLL has just shoot their foot, the buildup won’t draw well, and the undercard might have a hair match… what about Corleone vs Universo?

  5. I still think this will turn into a cage of death with Atlantis, Villano V and Blue Panther put in. Possibly Ultimo Guerrero too.
