07/21: New (Old) Tag Champs, Mexico Lineup

ESTO

CMLL (FRI) 07/20 Arena Mexico [ESTO, ovaciones]
1) Molotov & Sensei b Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) India Sioux, Luna Magica, Marcela b La Nazi, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) Felino, Mascara Purpura, Máximo b Misterioso II, Satánico, Virus
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Marco Corelone b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Volador Jr. b Damián 666, Héctor Garza, Terrible
6) Místico & Negro Casas b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Último Guerrero [CMLL TAG]

We have new tag team champions, again. In the final fall, Wagner accidentally kicked Ultimo, leading to his pinfall, and Mistico yanked Wagner’s mask and pulled him into a small package to win it. Ultimo’s ticked at Wagner for costing them the match, so that teamup is done. Mistico and Wagner challenged each other after the match.

Few notes on the rest of the show. All I’ve got is the tecnicos won the semimain in straight falls. CMLL.com says Panther is still angry.

CMLL (TUE) 07/24 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Polvora & Zayco
2) Flash & Metalico vs Arkangel & Dr. X
3) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Hiroka, Medusa
4) La Mascara, Neutron, Sombra vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
5) Bam Bam vs Mini Damian 666 [hair]
6) Alex Koslov, Dos Caras Jr., Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero

They didn’t waste any time.

CMLL (FRI) 07/27 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Sombra de Plata vs Caligula & Messala
2) Leono, Stuka Jr., Super Nova vs Hirooki Goto, Misterioso II, Okumura
3) Mascara Purpura, Sombra, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Sagrado vs Damian 666, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone vs Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Terrible
6) Mistico vs Dr. Wagner Jr.

This would seem like the build to a mask/mask match, but with Wagner and Mistico? I dunno.

CMLL GdR #86 has
07/13 Mexico: Pequeño Damian 666 b Bam Bam, Pequeño Olímpico, Bracito de Oro, Fantasy, Electrico, Pequeño Halloween, Mr. Aguilita, Fire [ciber]
HIGHLIGHTS: 07/17 Coliseo: Bam Bam b Pequeño Halloween and Pequeño Damian 666
07/15 Coliseo: Ephesto, Loco Max, Shigeo Okumura b Felino, Mascara Purpura, Máximo
Out of the ring: Maximo

  1. What a waste. So many interesting things could have been done with Wagner and Guerrero as champs over the next few months. It could have potentially put a whole new spin on the Wagner/Atlantis issue, which could’ve slowly simmered in the background while Wagner and Mistico settle their differences.

  2. The booking at Arena Mexico is making me more nervous than ever. We know CMLL is looking for a big match at Anniversary 74.

I was sure it was going to be a mask match involving Villanos. Robert said he does not think CMLL asked Villanos to lose their masks, which I interpret as Robert being certain through an inside source that Villanos are not losing their masks any time soon.

So where does this leave us? CMLL needs a big stip match in just two months for the Anniversary PPV. I hope they don’t mess with Ultimo Guerrero’s mask.

  3. You’re right Victor, Wagner/Ultimo title defenses could’ve done big money around the horn. And Atlantis in the background would’ve made things even better. There was a time when CMLL carefully developed interesting feuds like Niebla vs. IWRG Niebla, Niebla vs. Shocker, Shocker vs. Charles, Santo vs. Scorpio, Atlantis vs. Villano 3, and so on. Now it’s directionless to me.

  4. Perro’s losing his lice nest, Wagner already broke up with Ultimo, so next week they’ll have Perros run in and attack both guys so that Perrillo has a match for his retur.

Show sounds even worse than last week’s except for the main event which might have been better.

  5. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! DOUBLE THE MINI’S!:D I cannot wait to see that as even if the match sucks, you know the highspots will be fun as hell!

Tuesday’s Coliseo show looks strong. Too strong for a non-TV show in fact.:/ I guess we’ll finally find out if Bam Bam is leaving the mini’s division or not.

The Arena Mexico show has a ton of talent but it’s being booked ass-backwards.

    – Mistico vs Wagner ALREADY???
    – Why are we still booking Villano V in matches that don’t involve him feuding with anyone? WASTE OF A ROSTER SPACE.
    – Stuka Jr. still below Mascara Purpura? Travesty.

I really would be a very happy man if I never saw matches #4 or #5. Let’s pray next week is one of those weeks where they save up a high Arena Mexico match for a weekend show.

Keith, you read way too much into what I say.

  6. tried to not see the results, till now it ok.

anyone now when CMLL air today? (mexico time)

  7. Robert,

You’re almost always right, so it may make sense to read a little into your posts.

  8. ArMex #4 and #5 are full of Perros del Mal, which is not a good sign, I don’t care that much about the angles as long as they put up good matches, but right now, the angles suck and the matches don’t look to be good.

  9. Ultimo Guerrero issued a challenge to Wagner for the UWA’s championship, I wonder if they might change the card during the week, it would be good to see how the crowd reacts to Wagner, maybe it is more the anti-Mistico feel than a real popularity phenom.

If Bam Bam doesn’t win the hair match, it is going to be the most confusing thing ever…

  10. bah my message sucks, here is the fix:

anyone know when CMLL air today in gala mex?
    (mexico time)

  11. “If Bam Bam doesn’t win the hair match, it is going to be the most confusing thing ever…”

Stuka Jr. is programmed in the segunda again and Mascara Purpura is getting pushed higher.

  12. Remember Hijo del Perro Aguayo is comingo back August th 3rd to CMLL.. maybe, thats why they stopped this team and perhaps the feud…

  13. TVGuide says 4:00 PM, but should be on the watchout from 2:00 onwards…

    “””””””””””””

“If Bam Bam doesn’t win the hair match, it is going to be the most confusing thing ever…”

Stuka Jr. is programmed in the segunda again and Mascara Purpura is getting pushed higher.
    “”””””””””””””

That’s dumb, not confusing… let’s not forget Terrible, Villano V, Mr Aguila, Damian 666, Texano Jr and Garza being pushed ahead of Misterioso II and Triada…

  14. 18:00 would be the same time as IWRG so…

I wonder if this is the right time to bring Perrillo back, I mean, is not as he mas missed at all.

  15. What? I doubt it lasted more than 12 minutes… maybe we’re are getting too used to CMLL’s quickies… although I agree that it turned from a run in into a mixed tag match, but I can of liked more that than the regular womens tag.

  16. maybe it would not have been so bad had they not kept trying pin after pin with no ref and a cheap DQ finish, which is probably supposed to be from when Hamada enzuigiri’ed the ref.

it would be fun to see a feud with the apaches vs the hamadas.

  17. I remember being at CMLL and AAA tapings that lasted 2 hrs., and the fans loved it. I thought both groups were on to something that would catch on in the US.

One taping was at Arena Mexico and the show was exactly 2 hrs. The other was a AAA taping in Queretaro that might have went 2 hrs. 15 mins, but again, the fans loved it. I think the casual fans like the CMLL “quickies”.

  18. TVGuide isn’t as accurate as the esmas website. Lucha doesn’t start for another hour east coast time.

  19. One of the few CMLL 3 hours shows from last year even had to use a match from the week before, no match of that show reached 10 minutes and I remember people not loving that show. 8 minute matches might be right for a card with 12 singles matches, but for a trios match?

Last year, in Torreon, Octagon was in a 15 minute match, and everyone was very upset about the shortness of it, even sending letters to the newspapers and calling to TV and radio shows to complain.

  20. ha. when i worked at a comics store, we used to watch Caliente every Saturday afternoon, right away one of the local stations showed a crappy kung fu movie.

    those were the days.

  21. I think I’m just realizing now, but it seems they’re airing a 2 hours Caliente block with no ads at all (save an hour break to advertise own Gala programming). What’s the point in that? Why they didn’t just air a full 4 hour AAAMania show and put the 1:45 CMLL show tomorrow? Hehehe…

  22. OK, CMLL started… please take out Arturo Rivera out from CMLL, he’s more AAA!!!

  23. Oh good… they’re back to airing Coliseo segundas. Of course it has to be the week of a pointless women’s match. Let’s not air a great Arena Mexico undercard match or anything. No no no.

  24. I actually enjoyed that first fall a lot. But… that should have been the match. THE END.

I miss one fall women’s matches.

  25. The fall? It was about 5 minutes. Double the length of the usual CMLL fall.

Holy crap… awesome move by Marcela x3 in that second fall.

  26. OH. You meant the second fall… I gotcha. Yeah, that was short. Good thing we get a 4 minute commercial break now.:D

  27. Did you guys see that spot for the show in Juarez on Sunday with “La Parka”, Rayo de Jalisco, etc..???

A shame I’m getting ready to go out to eat. I’ll miss the rest of the show.

  28. The last 15 minutes of TV have been compirsed of 12 minutes of commercials, 30 seconds of previewing the Sunday Coliseo show and 1 and a half minutes of a second fall.

  29. Amapola is impossibly hot….and these have to be the world’s longest commercial breaks. Good Lord.

  30. JIP second fall of the tercera instead of LA SOMBRA??? Odd.

Hey Mascara Purpura – you did that same sequence last week. Try something new maybe.

  31. At least we got to see Mistico in a Nestle ad and the ad for tomorrow’s show in Juarez. I noticed that the Juarez commercial said, “tix on sale saturday”. I hope they’re talking about last Saturday, and the promoter did not put tix on-sale a day before the show.
