06/18: Mexico notes, links

Ovaciones previews today’s Arena Mexico show, with interviews from the hair match participants, Amapola and…Dark Angel. No, no change in the match, Diana couldn’t make the press conference so Dark Angel was talking on her behalf. Amapola of course took this to mean that Diana was scared, and that Dark Angel would be next to lose.

Ovaciones also repeats a statement from CMLL – do not believe a man who claims to be Mistico II, CMLL has no Mistico II. (That’s Sombra.)

CMLL (SUN) 06/17 Arena Mexico
1) Bracito de Oro & Tzuki vs Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Dark Angel, India Sioux, Sahori vs La Seductora, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) La Mascara, Mictlan, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal, Shocker vs Damian 666, Halloween, Terrible
5) Mistico & Negro Casas vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]

I’m thinking Diana and champions retain, only because there’s been no angle leading up to it. I feel less sure about the title match than I do the hair match, even with the weird build in the hair match (which I’ll go over next.)

There’s also an AAA TV taping in Toluca.

  1. Meltzer also notes the AAA TV Taping on Wed. in TJ has been scrapped. That’s funny since it was never announced in the first place and AAA *never* tapes in TJ on Wednesday. By my calculations AAA has the Cozumel show starting in 5 minutes, Merida next week (24th) and Toluca on July 1st TV. This would mean the next TV Taping would be Monterrey on 7/1 to air on 7/8 and either they have to add another taping to air on 7/15 or they are going to do a recap show.

As for tonight… I’m kinda the opposite of you. I’m more nervous about the hair match than the title match due to the weird build-up. I thought it was a lock that Amapola was losing but now I’m not so sure.:/ I’ll stick with Amapola for now but wouldn’t be stunned if Diana lost. As for the titles… I’m sticking with my prediction that Averno and Mephisto are winning the belts with Averno celebrating with his dad who will be refereeing.

  2. Carola lost her hair to Konnan Big a while ago, so if Diana goes bald, it won’t really mean that much in Televisa Mty… it’s no big deal, she would use fancy hats or something, I don’t think it’s happening, Lady Apache already lost her hair and she’s as much as a cute girl for the fans as Diana.

  3. That AAA TV opener (Super Fly/Laredo vs Apache/Calo) was pretty great. Standard tag match with lots of cool stuff and none of the usual AAA BS. I actually think you’ll enjoy it Cubs!

But what was up with that sketch afterwards? A guy dressed like he was a member of the Fuerza Aerea went to Apache’s training school and asked for a lesson from Apache who said wait till next week. Is Apache going to train his own high flyer to feud with the Fuerza Aerea? Or is someone in La Fuerza Aerea turning? (the guy was only shown from the back and it kinda looked like Aero Star) Maybe it has something to do with the new guy named Explosivo on the Toluca taping today?

  4. It was Danger.

Hehehe, I dare you to start the rumor in the boards… although it was not him, of course… he already has Barrios…

  5. I haven’t checked the boards but I bet the Danger rumor has already been started.:P I really am not interested in anything else on the show but am staying tuned to see if Noti AAA announces any new tapings.

I think it’s great how some guys on the ByL board whine about Paco Alonso every time Mistico wins a match but say nothing when Los Perros win a match or Atlantis wins a match. Do they really think Paco only decides when Mistico wins and Atlantis/Perros are total shoots?

  6. !!! AWESOME !!! Cubs, you are brilliant. That was Alfa’s mask, I knew I’ve seen it before!

  7. You know it kinda sucks that me (a diehard AAA fan) didn’t catch onto that angle before cubs (a closet AAA fan, IMO) did. I knew the negative AAA reviews are just to “fit in” with the internet crowd.;)

  8. The ladies match was the greatest thing ever!! It didn’t answer the philosophical debate of “what would happen if you put Paris Hilton in a AAA ring” but came close, I was nearly choking at every dive where they almost got killed. That’s what you get when you put Estrellita to make the catching while Tiffany or even Diabolica and Miss Janeth are working house shows.

  9. Now I’m sorry I skipped it.:( Ayako is a magnet for blown spots though so I’m not surprised.

  10. Speaking of closet AAA fans, have you ever noticed that Sundays from 3 to 6 have the lowest rate of posting in ByL board? I wonder why is it…

  11. Extreme Tiger is the most unfluid (is that a word?) high flyer ever. He makes Sabu look like Super Fly. That somersault plancha missed completely and he almost busted his tailbone on the landing. “Almost”.:(

  12. It’s not, fluid is “smooth” the antonyms, acording to an online dictionary: awkward, bumbling, clumsy, fumbling, incompetent, inept, unskilled

  13. Well there you go…

    7/1 Monterrey
    7/6 Puebla

And I guess next week on TV they are announcing the Triplemania card. YAY!

  14. I was at least 70% making a joke – I’m not actually watching the AAA. I rather wait three weeks and get to use my fast forward button.

triplea.com put up some pictures from the last couple of tapings that they bothered to put results up for.

  15. Well, unfluid would be “that lacks of fluidity”, not awkward, bumbling, clumsy, fumbling, incompetent, inept, unskilled, that would be anti-fluid… hehehe, oh well.

I doubt they’ll give the lineup next week, with 4 shows still to go, they would be hintting what’s gonna happen… they might announce the foreigners.

If the Apache/Calo vs SFly/Lkid is a 4 corner match, I’m thinking Apache will lose so they build the Laredo Kid vs Calo match for a further show (GdeT?)

  16. It’s gonna be criminal if Apache loses. The only person he can lose his hair to next is Billy Boy at Triplemania ’08. It has to be Laredo Kid taking Super Calo’s mask and Calo becoming a new Guapo which will put them back on TV regularly. Meanwhile his spot can be taken by Alfa in the Apache/Barrios foursome.

From the 6/8 taping, the only two results I watched were rudos winning the opener and Extreme Tiger pinning Psicosis in the tercera. I think the tecnicas won by DQ in the second match but not sure.

  17. Am I the only one who finds it odd that AAA posted pictures of the pre-show interviews in front of a green screen?

  18. Calo alread has the blond hair ready to be a Guapo. But I’d like to see him team with Barrio Boyz, who seem to have carisma as a heel tag team. Calo should not lose his mask until year-end at the earliest. It’s too soon and meaningless to lose it now.

  19. Calo’s mask is meaningless though. It’ll just be a nice trophy to give Laredo Kid. Calo is old news and since his work has been so good since he returned, he should be used more with the Guapos after passing the Calo mask on to a deserving youngster.

I love how blonde hair = you are losing your mask. It’s so true in Mexico. Back in 2002 when Markus/Veneno were heading to a stip match and nobody knew who was going to win, the week before in a trios match Veneno got his mask torn up a bit and he had blonde hair hanging out which basically gave the result of the match away.

  20. Calo’s mask is meaningless, but that’s why I think they keep it on to build it as a bigger deal for LKid to win later on. Apache will be screwed out of his hair, I think. This would make Billy Boy to be out of luck as far as getting his revenge, but I see a hair match with Billy and the Barrio’s, maybe a handicapped match? Then, next year Apache and Billy might have their show off when Billy FINALLY takes his hair… Of course, we talk as if Apache is going to last forever, they could make it a retirement match… who knows.

  21. I don’t know if Calo’s mask in totally meaningless. With some build-up, it’s not such a bad stip match. When you consider AAA’s previous track record on stip matches, Calo losing with no swerves would be a decent victory for the winner.

I’m like Cubs, I have to watch AAA in FF>>. Not so much to avoid certain matches, but to avoid 16:00 of commercial time per hour.
