07/22 (or maybe 07/20) Rey Bucanero anniversary show announced

Rey Bucanero will have a show at Arena Mexico on 07/22 (that’d be a Sunday show) to celebrate his 15th anniversary of wrestling. Luchawiki has him as debuting in ’91, but close enough. As part of the show, Rey actually gets to main event in a CMLL Light Heavyweight title defense. The challenger will be chosen by the fans – Ovaciones gives out farosas@ova.com.mx – with the idea Rey won’t know who he’ll face till right before the match. The three candidates are:

* Atlantis
* Toscano
* Ultimo Guerrero

Rey’s also interviewed talking about this in La Presna, saying he’d be happy to beat any one of these three men.

If Ultimo does not win this, I will lose total faith in the world. They seriously need one more chance to try and get it right.

Edit (06/24): Just to keep this relevant if it’s going to be in the side bar, CMLL’s been inconsistent on listing this as a Friday or Sunday show. We’ll find out in July.

  1. Is CMLL getting cocky and just looking for excuses to run Arena Mexico every Sunday now? That’s one way to kill an arena.

  2. Oh yeah, I voted for Ultimo Guerrero and made sure to note if they need a replacement, Super Comando is available.

  3. I guess some people(including me) were expecting a big Arena Mexico show the week before on 7/15 against Triplemania. That’s what makes this date even more of a surprise. Sometimes I think CMLL should run Arena Mexico on Sunday, and Coliseo on Friday, so that the big shows would always be on a Sunday.

  4. Would make sense but…
    CMLL fears AAA.
    No.
    Scratch that.
    CMLL fears Latin Lover!!!
