CMLL CAN52 GDR #78

taped 05/11, 05/13 – aired 05/19

I’m not blown away by Brillante, but he’s fair enough addition to the roster. He seems as good as Stuka already – the stereo Asai moonsaults make me hope that those two are teamed up for a mythical Arena Coliseo Tag Team Title Tournament. He’s obviously young, still learning, needing a unique look (he’s a bit too Mistico/Sagrado-ish) and I’m not sure that he’s much better than the dozen constant opener guys he leapfrogged for this spot, but you could do far worse.

Main event was a Wagner main event paint by numbers-ish.

  1. Yeah, I wasn’t blown away by the match. It was fun and nice to see two of the three tecnicos on TV. I’m sure they were holding back a lot since they were in the opener. The first fall exchange with Stuka Jr. was quite insane and my favorite portion of the match. Brillante Jr. might have shown more if his second fall exchange wasn’t joined in progress. Leono might have shown more if he had talent. (I had to add that)

The rudos stood out more than the tecnicos with their interesting triple team moves. If Valaguez is Nosferatu, he should be in line for Most Improved this year. He’s still only average at best but that’s a huge step up from embarassment to all mankind.

How annoying is that Monito graphic getting?

  2. 99% of the time, I forget it’s there a second after it occurs, because I’m mentally blocking. OTOH, there was a fall this week – the last FSE one? – where I thought it was a two count, and then I say the Monito.
