04/27: AAA TV, Mexico Preview, Puebla, Chicago

cmll

AAA’s got a taping today. Perhaps you’ve forgotten the lineup – it was only announced four weeks ago. The big main event is a six way cage match: Cibernetico, Chessman, El Elegido, El Mesias, Abismo Negro, and whoever replaces La Parka Jr. Semimain is a incredible atomico.

Mundo de Hoy.

The big show this week is Sunday – I expect that to sell out, and I would guess around 8 or 9,000 here. Main: mini monkey madness. The Perro/Mistico face off in the semimain is getting more attention. No one seems to care about the women’s cibernetico. I guess I will! (If you’re Henrik, or would like to be, skip down to the **************.)

Thanks for coming
Diosa Maya
Seductora
Atenea

Gotta figure this whole match airs somewhere, because what other people is bringing in random people except to put them on TV? I don’t quite understand why this is a 14 person match, but maybe someone here will surprise us and earn a more regular spot. (The bigger achievement is a 12 fall women’s match with no Dark Angel not testing the fans patience.) They’ll be the first three out, at any rate.

Regulars with little chance
Sahori
Medussa
Luna Magica
Rosa Negra
Princesa Blanca
Diana la Cazadora

If Sahori or Luna Magica advance and we get them in singles matches, I may lose my mind. Blanca’s probably not much better, but we don’t see her much. Medussa’s a non-factor, but Rosa Negra has looked good the last couple times I’ve seen her, and I wouldn’t mind her advancing past her normal position here. She’s not going to, but oh well. Diana need work in the ring, but she’s got enough personality and looks that I’m sure they’d do more with her if they had a chance. Her schedule makes her unlikely

Remember, we’re advancing two people from here to a match next week. I’m presuming it’ll be ruda vs tecnica…

Rudas with a real chance
3) La Nazi
2) Princesa Sujei
1) Amapola

The Pierroth influence seems to be on a down ebb the last six months. I don’t know if he’s lost influence, or if they’re just taking a break before ramping him back up again. As long as he’s around and La Nazi is connected with him, I think there’s a chance she could win the title. It’s the least chance of the final five, but there’s an obvious big/small story you can do for the final, and they’ve done it well in trios.

All I ever seem to say about Princesa Sujei is “she seemed much better in AAA”, but she’s been okay in CMLL. A Sujei title reign doesn’t particularly interest me – her big rival is Dark Angel and obviously that won’t work – but she’d be a fine enough opponent to put over one of the tecnicas.

Amapola is the best Mexican ruda female worker of the moment and would be a really fun champion. The problem is, the last time Amapola had a big Arena Mexico singles match, she kinda walked out of the building without letting anyone see much of the her freshly unmasked face, and CMLL was very unhappy. I don’t know if CMLL is over that; I’ll be remained ever convinced she was passed over for the CMLL title for that reason, and it’s not like CMLL gets over things very quickly. I think Amapola’s a strong bet for moving on, because it’ll be the best match, but I don’t know from there.

Tecnicas with a real chance
2) India Sioux
1) Marcela

That’s it. That’s the list.

India’s not ready for a big spot like this, unless they’ve been secretly working on the title match or something. It’s way too soon to give her a title – she’s an appealing tecnica, and I think India challenging for a title against a respected but evil ruda is one of the few things in this division that might be a draw, and I wouldn’t give it up this quick. You could do worse than having India in the title match; unless one of the unknowns shows up big, this is a weak tecnica side.

Is Marcela the best Mexican tecnica worker of the moment? Yea, I think so. She’s quality, but she’s missing a spark that makes you realy want to see her. Marcela seems like a great secondary tecnica, a fine worker who could be the top women’s sidekick or put over the feared ruda to build her up for another challenger. I don’t think she’s a top star, and it’s really impossible for her to be when Dark Angel and Lady Apache are ahead of her.

The Mexican Women’s Belt, it really means nothing at the moment. It was part of Lady Apache’s wardrobe, not a meaningful championship. Having Amapola face Marecla, the best possible match from this lineup, would be a good first step in making something of it, but the most important part is what they do with the belt after the title match. They’re investing too much time to just forget about it in a couple weeks.

**************

Ovaciones and AAA’s site talk about La Parka Jr., El Brazo and Chucky visiting a children’s hospital. I say this everytime, but I totally wouldn’t be sending CHUCKY to a children’s hospital. Still, it’s a nice gesture. A lot of lucha types seem to take time to visit with kids during this weekend every year.

CMLL (FRI) 03/30 Arena Puebla
1) Alex Koslov, Lizmark Jr., Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000
2) Rey Bucanero vs Hector Garza [CMLL LH]

VIP has rescheduled their next show for 05/12. Perros del Mal are not on the lineup. They’re running a small fair show on Sunday for Kid’s Day as well.

Perro Aguayo Jr. wants people to keep voting for him, so he stays on his reality show. Fair enough.

the Yahoo Picture Wire has a bunch of shots from a recent Coliseo Guadalajara show.

Blue Demon Jr. will be in Chicago tomorrow to sign autographs and promote his energy drink. I’m surprised that no one local is trying to split the cost and run a show with him….

OH! Someone is!

Scheduled: Blue Demon Jr., Mascara Sagrada, Casandro, La Parkita, Tzuki, Espectritio, Pequeno Violencia, Aguila del America, Lancer 2000, Guerrerito del Futuro, SWAT Kat, Lupillo el Terrible, Aguila Tapatia Jr., Halcon Galactico, Mia Martinez, Great Cheyene.

Friday: (150 W Illinois Ave., Aurora, IL); doors open 6, bell at 6:30
Saturday: (351 Oakwood Ave., Waukegan, IL); doors open 6, bell at 7
Tickets are $10 for kids, $25 for general, $30 for ringside (329 Mexican pesos)

After my freakout/meltdown with the last show I tried to go to, I’ve kinda distanced myself from such things for a bit. This one is 15 mintes from my house, so even though I’ve seen all the names on this list live at this point, I sorta have to go, right? Maybe.

(HoyInternet) There’s a lucha show in LA on Sunday, including Los Chivos and Magno.

Not to say Mistico’s a star, El Universal has a story about his face being partially exposed in a Black Warrior mask, plus a photo of the Incident. That’s all the article is. The people at El Universal don’t watch the TV show much, I’m thinking.

IWRG’s site is still down.

  1. They take Chuky there so that they can say “eat your meals or you’ll end like that guy”.

They had Coliseo’s ladies match on FSE, and not only did they had Diana in the pre match interview, but did a post match interview as well, so it might mean that they’re pushing here in the cibernetico, but then again, I doubt the GdR production is into CMLL plans so…

I think the patience with the women has run out already.

From the begining I pointed out that the women’s matches always seemed to flow well and in some cases were actually good b/c of one key… they only had to wrestle ONE FALL. It’s a much easier format that way. Now that some idiot decided to make their matches three falls, you can see/hear the fans don’t care to see the women out there that long. Yes, the three falls matches are the same length as the one fall matches but you have to count in the time between falls as well. Fans just want to see the women as a sideshow, get in there for 6-7 minutes to do their thing and get out. It’s not like the Perros/Guerreros stuff where the crowd cares and wants to cheer big for one fall for the Perros, one fall for the Guerreros and then get into the match completely in the only fall that matters.

As much as it pains me, it might be time for CMLL to switch to the one fall format completely. I figure it’s gonna happen before the end of the year no matter what.
