03/30 Arena Mexico (Two Legends) Card Announced

That bit yesterday? SWERVE.

CMLL (FRI) 03/30 Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Dark Angel, Marcela, Lady Apache vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Amapola
2) Sagrado, Volador Jr., Leono vs Misterioso II, Tarzan Boy, Black Warrior
3) Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Olimpico vs Mr. Aguila, Damian 666, Halloween
4) Lizmark Jr., Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero vs Averno, Mephisto, Ephesto
5) Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero vs Perro Aguayo Jr., Hector Garza [ri]
6) Marco Corelone vs Universo 2000

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

day since (as of this PPV)
Marco lost his hair: 105 – last major show
Universo last lost his hair: 378 – same major show last year
Universo defended his title in Mexico City: 689
Universo defended his title in Arena Mexico: 1442 (or 206 weeks or 3.95 years, in an building they run every week)

Not that I’m thinking there’s any way where Marco/Universo is a suitable big show main event. But I could not care about Universo getting his head shaved, which obviously is happening. Maybe last time, you could sell it as the first time ever, but this just feels like the start of Universo dropping his hair each and every year for a payday.

That’s admittedly zany semifinal, but they seem to putting all their eggs in the Marco/Universo basket so far – maybe they’ll push the Ultimo/Mistico teamup in weeks to come? The only other ongoing is the women’s match, and I’m still not sure they’re going to end up doing anything with Apache/Amapola.

How about Black Warrior being in the segunda? With Leono? Leono’s not losing his hair. That has a chance to be a pretty good match. I’m not sold on anything besides it and the semifinal.

At six matches, it’s highly unlikely we’re getting a late addition. It is what it is.

  1. Christ, for the amount of talent loaded on it, that card sucks. Talk about random shittyness.

-2/3rd of the show effectively dedicated to the never ending, sleep-inducing Perros/Guerreros feud. And who the hell can possibly be interested in a match between both stables’ b-teams on a big show?

    – Mistico teaming with U. Guerrero? – w…t….f?

    – Those f*cking bastard women denying us an inevitably good opener whether it be undercarders or minis. Ok, you’ve probably figured that’s by far my main annoyance.

    – Volador and Black Warrior working segundas is nothing more than a bad joke. And Leono, the only undercarder on the show, being in the same ring as those 5? gimme a break…

    – No shocker, Doc, Park, Casas etc etc..

    – and match 4; ZZZZZzzzzzzzzz (due to 2/3rd of the tecnico trio obviously – that’s more than enough to drag it down)

Really hope this doesn’t get aired on PPV now due to that opener. CMLL fans must be crazy, they have all the T&A they need with the ring girls – they ain’t exactly shy.
So what is the attraction in watching 6 not-as-good-looking women trying to work a lucha match in slow motion – where a silla or pescado is considered a nutty highspot??

  2. I might be in the minority here but I really like some of these matches. I love the Guerreros vs Perros feud. Mistico/Ultimo vs Perro/Garza is literally one of the coolest looking matches I’ve seen. I will probably love that match. Sagrado, Volador Jr., Leono vs Misterioso II, Tarzan Boy, Black Warrior, yes please. Not sure about Leono, doesn’t sound familiar but love the rest. Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Olimpico vs Mr. Aguila, Damian 666, Halloween should be good as I like all of them, especially Sangre and Aguila. Lizmark Jr., Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero vs Averno, Mephisto, Ephesto sounds good. I haven’t seen Ephesto yet, DVDs coming, love Rey Bucanero, and I like Lizmark y Dos. Though I saw something about Lizmark Jr. being the next Guerreros member. The womens match has Lady Apache y Dark Angel, which makes it good for me automatically. As for the main event, I haven’t seen any of this feud yet. I like Universo 2000 and Corleone is good but haven’t seen much of him in Mexico. If this is a hair match I will be very interested. Overall a really good show for me but aside from the womens match, Universo vs Corleone is my least favorite. Definately looking forward to Ultimo/Mistico teaming.

I can’t believe Universo hasn’t defended his belt in that long. I’d like to see a Universo vs Corleone (or anybody) title match.

  3. Yeah that’s a pretty shitty card. Typical of CMLL though. Salazar and company(if there is any) just decide the show over a 10 minute lunch one day without any thought ahead of time.

    – Womens opener: Whatever… it’ll be a good match. But we’ve seen this same match 10,000 times already. Is it gonna set up a Lady Apache/Amapola match? Who cares? Dark Angel is the draw and the only reason I, along with everyone else, will be watching. What happened to rotating the openers amongst the mini’s, women and undercarders?

    – Segunda: This is a segunda? More like 5 guys who got lost and took the detour into a segunda where Leono was waiting. I absolutely *HATE* La Mascara and even I think he should be in this match rather than Leono. They have the same exact moveset anyways, just one different dive each.

    – Tercera: Perros vs GdA(kinda) once again. WHO CARES? THIS FEUD FUCKING SUCKS! Salazar and company ruined the feud right from the start back in January 2006. March 2007 is not the time to try to start all over again.

This is the type of card where you should automatically scrap the segunda/tercera and turn it into a pointless Torneo just so the fans get to see some quick highspots.

    – Match 4: Another who gives a shit match. So 3 out of 4 matches so far are who gives a shit matches. I guess it fits the motto of the bookers not giving a shit either. Will Lizmark Jr. turn rudo? I’d rather see him just disapear forever please. I don’t get why all the ByL guys jerk-off to him.

    – Semi-main: I just hope they do an angle where the PdM win and Guerrero beats the shit out of Mistico setting up a singles match or even a tag with Volador Jr./Mistico against Ultimo/Atlantis or Ultimo/Tarzan. It’s fucking ridiculous to have Mistico and Ultimo teaming together and getting along.

    – Main event: It is what it is. Universo will go bald and they’ll have run the exact same match on two PPV’s in a row which sums up exactly how much creativity Salazar and company have.

EASILY the worst booked “big show” in many years. And think about the fact that all you have to look forward to after this is Rayo De Jalisco Jr. returning to the company in April. What the fuck is wrong with CMLL?

Bash AAA all you want but when it comes time for a big event, they load the card and put actual thought into the matches.

  4. Oh, yea, Rey de Reyes beats this easy. I’m more interested in the AAA TAG TITLES than anything on this show.

  5. I´m going to the Arena México every week, and that “big show” is a card that i see every time, The the beach is waiting for me that weekend and i’m not gonna miss the show, what’s wrong with CMLL guys?, The Last show i really enjoy was the “Reyes del Aire” Tournament.

I don´t know if Rob means Alexis Salazar or Tony Salazar, because neither of them are in charge of the programation, in fact, talking today with Alexis he was very excited about Ultimo/Mistico Vs PdM Match, i don’t know…

Same matches every week, the arena full of people who doesn’t know even who’s in the ring, drunk guys throwing the paper cups and coins…

What’s wrong with Lucha Libre in the Arena México?, some kind of fashion place for the high class people i guess.

A night with all the matches for the titles would be great, but it’s just a dream…

  7. Wait, so I didn’t miss anything with Garza and Perrito breaking up, right? It’s just supposed to be a “they both hate the Perros, so we’ll make them a team” thing, right?

  8. I meant Tony Salazar. The problem is depending on who you speak with, there are two theories about who makes the matches and feud in CMLL. One side says Salazar is involved, the other side says Salazar isn’t involved. I’ve asked Alexis, who by the way is a really nice guy and I’m friends with him, and he says his dad isn’t involved with the booking. As much as I like Alexis though, that’d be like asking Barry Bonds’ son if his dad does steroids.

No matter who is in charge, the bottom line is everyone involved with the company needs to be ashamed for putting out a lineup like this. They have all the talent in the world and all they can come up with is THIS. It’s just plain laziness and shows a total lack of respect for people like Azmodeuz who attend the shows every week. If you truly care about your fans, a couple of times a year you give them the BEST SHOW POSSIBLE to say thanks for the support. You don’t build-up a show as being the one of the biggest shows of the year and then release a card that would be considered AVERAGE AT BEST for a regular Friday night.

This isn’t anything new to anyone who has been following CMLL though. Even though they’ve been hot since mid-2004, they always build-up these big shows and promise a ton of matches that never end up taking place. Then they release the full lineup and it looks like another normal Friday night show. It’s as if nobody in the company understands why these type of shows are supposed to be SPECIAL.

Bad day for CMLL and people involved with CMLL.

  9. By the way, you know you’ve put together a shitty show when you announce a HAIR MATCH in the main event and all the fans are screaming “no, we want a title match!”

I can’t remember that ever happening before.

  10. I don’t know why they won’t use Shocker instead of Garza so it would be a real Relevos Increibles and they could teaso somthing else happening later…

As it is, I wonder if Arena Mx Anniv will have Mistico/Ultimo vs Perrillo/Garza providing that Aguayo would reather be pinned by Ultimo and not Mistico directly…

I don’t think AAA is bright enough, but it looks as if they could run a Ruleta de la Muerte tourney for AAAMania

    Octagon/Fuerza, Banderas/Ciber, Abismo/Latin, Juvie/Pirata, Nicho/Manson, Alebrije/Mr Niebla + 2 others…
    Zorro? Chessman? Black Magic?

  11. finally, a use for catching up on all that AAA TV

    Octagon/Fuerza
    Ricky/Ciber
    Abismo/Latin
    Alan/Intocable

    Porky/Scorpio
    Nicho/Psicosis II
    Alebrije/Monsther
    Apache/Billy

If you don’t want to do Apache/Billy yet again, maybe

    Cassandro/Pimpi
    Tiffany/Estrellita
    any Mexican Power/any Dark Family
any other Hell Brother/any Dark Family
    Laredo Kid/any Viper

All these feuds come to mind very easily. That’s a big difference between the two groups right now.

ChrisD: Yes, Hector and Perro are still friends. It’s only Mistico and Ultimo not getting along.

Once again, they’ve booked the Guerreros as “the rudos the people like to cheer”, when that still seems to be the Perros.

  12. You wouldn’t think the show could get any shittier than it already was but Ovaciones says Ultimo Guerrero is out and Mistico is teaming with Shocker. They also say Dos Caras Jr. is out and LIZMARK (as in the crippled old guy) is in.

  13. See, i have no problem with replacing Ultimo Guerrero with Shocker because it’s like swapping like-for-like – greatness for greatness! :)

And i think it makes for a far more logical and sensible match instead of trying to have us believe that all of a sudden, Ultimo hates the Perros so much more than Mistico (one of his main rivals the last 2 years)that he’s willing to team with him.

Of course, that’s only the case if Ultimo is being put somewhere else on the card. Taking someone like him off it completely is nothing more than scandalous.

As for the geriatric Shitmark coming in, it doesn’t really bother me all that much because i don’t like Dos Caras Jr anyway and that match is one i already couldn’t care less about. That said, those 2 really will make any match awful beyond words.

At least with Sr though, he was once pretty great and it’s nothing more than age catching up with him that makes him suck so much. My hate for Jr on the other hand is probably coming close to that of La Mascara – and the worst of it is, he’s practically ALWAYS on every CMLL card these days!! Does he ever leave Arena Mex?? And just like last night, on the all-too rare occasions when he’s not booked you can be sure he’s the #1 choice for subbing!

Ah fuck, added to that Santo news, i’d like to say a big, hearty FUCK YOU!! to all those at CMLL with any influence on the booking and on the direction they seem to be taking the organisation. :(
