Mistico and WWE: the neverending story

I remember liking that movie, but it’s long a time since I’ve seen it. Oh, right, news:

This will probably change several times over the next six days because of the gigantic political implications of this decision, but Mistico, against the wishes of CMLL, is scheduled to appear on Tuesday night in San Jose at the WWE tapings. (thanks to Steve “Dr. Lucha” Sims)

wrestlingobserver.com

Okay, so now I’m not going to write anymore unless I have something new to say about this. Luckily, I do!

I’m thinking he won’t end up in WWE. But, if he was,

I THINK
– CMLL would want Mistico to work out as many dates as possible (they really don’t have equal replacements on the roster)
– CMLL would still want to do a big main event on 03/24, since they’re still competing with WWE (though WWE may have to put a stronger fight to be considered competing)
– CMLL would want to keep the rights to the Mistico and name and gimmick, since they’re already fought for them once

Why not still do the Perro Aguayo Jr. vs Mistico match, except have Mistico lose his mask? He’s gone, CMLL doesn’t care – it’d be a spite move, and one that could cost money (since it’d be worth more if his WWE stint was halfway decent, but promotions have done the same) – and there’s no sense in having Perro lose his hair to a guy on the way out. Either they’d have to come up with another match (Marco/Universo? Volador in Mistico’s spot to beat Perro’s hair – would Perro be okay with that?) or Mistico loses his mask.

This isn’t happening, but it’s weird to figure a halfway reasonable imagine a scenario where Mistico loses his mask. That seemed impossible.

02/21: Puebla, XLAW, Torreon

CMLL (MON) 02/19 Arena Puebla Results
1) Blue Center, Zigma b Fuerza Tiger, Mr. Rafaga
2) Espiritu Maligno, Murcielago, Toro Bill Sr. b Asturiano, Centella de Oro, Forajido
3) Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Nitro b Leono, Tony Rivera, Valiente
4) Felino, Mascara Sagrada, Texano Jr. b Misterioso II, Olimpico, Terrible
5) La Mascara, Mistico, Volador Jr. b Averno, Efesto, Mephisto

Terrible replaced Tarzan Boy, who did show up to explain a foot injury is keeping him out of action. Usual main event finish.

Ovaciones has an interview with Alex Koslov, about his tecnico turn. The rudos turn on each other too much, so he decided to jump sides.

NWA XLAW (SUN) 03/04 Coliseo Tulancingo Lineup [superluchas]
1) Skayde & Skayde Jr. vs Amo de la Noche, Talaxys
2) Shamu, Katsumi Kanai vs Epidermia, Heavy Boy
3) Kaleth, Nemesis (IWRG) vs Geneis, Feroz
4) Avisman vs American Gigolo
5) Dr. Cerebro, Freelance vs Fantasma de la Opera, Cerebro Negro
6) Chad Malenko vs El Suicida
7) Ultimo Dragon vs Frankie Kazarian vs Tajiri [1, NWA HEAVY]

I sure hope that’s the ex-IWRG/current Piratas in the third match, because I don’t need a third guy named Nemesis. Chad Malenko is Chad Collyer, living the dream.

indy (THU) 02/22 Arena Olimpico Laguna Lineup
3) Conflictus, Junior Halcon vs Arana Cibernetica I, Arana Cibernetica II
4) Moro III, Piloto Negro, Tony Rodriguez vs Hijo de Soberano, Sexy Piscis, Piloto SUicida

indy (SUN) 02/25 Deportivo Lee Roy Lineup
1) Shuriken, Star Jr. vs Aguila Salvaje, Fuerza Infernal
2) Black Boy, Corsario Rojo, Fuego vs Muerte Negra, Blue Fox, Lee Roy
3) Dark Staint vs Jerry Brown [mask]
4) Junior Halcon, Indio Chirikawa II, Arana del Futuro vs Kain, Black Jet, Diabolico II
5) La Borrega 2000 vs Tin Tan [hair]
6) Super Star vs Super Leopardo [trofeo Lee Roy]

Officals are going to restrict the amount of lucha libre shows which take place in Auditorio Municipal Torreon. The ring and the chairs are damaging their wood floor, and they don’t expect the wrestling promoters will pay for it, so they’re only going to let a few top events runt there each year.

Rocky Romero may have been asked to drop the Black Tiger IV gimmick.

The Charly Manson/Box Y Lucha chat is today.

02/20: 02/23 AAA TV Lineup, IWRG

Not much going on, so I’m going to roll two posts into one. The big story today is I don’t have to eat my hat!

AAA TV (FRI) 02/23 Auditorio Jose Maria Arteaga, Queretaro Lineup
1) Rey Cometa, Pimpinela Escarlta, Estrellita, Mascarita Divina vs Kaoma Jr., Polvo de Estrellas, Tiffany, Mini Charly Manson
2) Pirata Morgan, Charly Manson vs Alan Stone & Zumbido vs Cuervo & Ozz vs Alebrije & El Brazo [AAA TAG, torneo]
3) Joe Lider, Psicosis, Crazy Boy vs Nicho, Head Hunter I, Black Bufalo
4) Fuerza Guerrera, Pirata Morgan, Sangre Chicana vs Octagon, Intocable, Zorro
5) Cibernetico, Chessman, Charly Manson vs Abismo Negro, Mr. Niebla, Histeria, Antifaz

I’m going to guess the Pirata Morgan/Charly Manson tag team is replaced or something instead of having them work twice. I have no idea why the main event is listed as 4 vs 3. They didn’t actually list the Foreign Legion guys the Mexican Powers would face, but I’m guessing.

IWRG (SUN) 02/18 Arena Naucalpan Results
1) Mr. Randal b Volcan Negro
2) Antaris, Bacteria b Black Jaguar, Vampiro Metalico
3) Coco Blanco, Coco Rojo, Coco Verde b Dr. Cerebro, Estallido, Supremo Jr.
4) Avisman, Black Terry DQ Freelance, Suicida
5) Bestia Salvaje, Black Pentagon, Pierroth b Dr. Wagner Jr., Mascara Sagrada, Villano III

Villano III turned on Dr. Wagner in the main event, helping the rudos win. Freelance accidentally hit the referee in the third fall of his match, causing the DQ. Dr. Cerebro was a tecnico fill in on the rudo side, and of course that didn’t work. He and Supremo ended up fighting.

IWRG (SUN) 02/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Mr. Randal vs Volcan Negro
2) Antaris, Kai, Yamato vs Black Jaguar, Black Stone, Vampiro Metalico
3) Coco Blanco, Coco Rojo, Coco Verde vs Macho II, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Freelance vs Avisman [IWRG IC WELTER]
5) El Dandy, Negro Navarro, Villano III vs Bestia Salvaje, Black Pentagon, Nosawa

El Sudcaliforniano previews an AAA show featuring the Mexican Powers vs “los Biper Revolution”.

02/19: Coliseo, Tijuana, NJPW, Magazines

CMLL (SUN) 02/18 Arena Coliseo Results [ova, hugo999]
1) Bracito de Oro, Mini Olimpico b Fire, Sombrita
2) Super Nova, Tony Rivera, Valiente b Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Ramstein
3) Arkangel, Mogur, Nitro b Leono, Texano Jr., Virus
4) Blue Panther, La Mascara, Mictlan b Alex Koslov, Ephesto, Misterioso II
5) Atlantis, Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Rey Bucanero

Dos went down in the main event, which doomed the tecnicos. Alex had a falling out with his partners, so he’s indeed going tecnico. Texano went down in the tercera, and Mogur fouled Leono to lead his team to victory before challenging for a hair match. Tony Rivera replaced Flash and got hurt. Three is an above average day.

el sol de Tabasco

Black Warrior and Mistico signed a lot of autographs while in Tabasco this weekend, and occasionally held up large banners. Didn’t see results for this show yet

CMLL PRI (SAT) 02/17 Plaza de la Unidad Results [El SOl de Toluca]
1) El Tigre, The Thing b Bengala, Damian el Inmortal
2) India Sioux, Marcela b Amapola, Hiroka
3) Destroyer, Emperador, Flecha DQ Estruendo, Skar, Sombra de Plata
4) Felino, Sagrado, Volador Jr. b Alex Koslov, Okumura, Veneno
5) Astro Boy, Mistico, Negro Casas b Averno, Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo

I would attend political functions in the United States if they, like the PRI here, sponsored lucha libre battles. Anyway, the biggest news of the day is surely that Flecha and Sombra de Plata are feuding, if the report can be believed. Flecha faked a foul here. Astro Boy and Averno were added to the main event, and the finish was the finish you know and love.

indy (FRI) 02/16 Arena Queretaro Results [Knotty @ El Martinete
2) Dark Boy, Dark Crazy b Galaxy, Luminoso
3) Artillero, Super Comando DRAW Lince I, Lince II [LLQ TAG]
4) Batman, Robin b Blade, Perro del Ring
5) Huracan Ramirez, Huracan Ramirez Jr., Principe Valiente Jr. DQ Coco Blanco, Coco Rojo, Coco Verde
6) Electroshock, Hijo de Solitario b Pierroth Jr., Rambo

Tecnicos won when Solitario turned on Electroshock. I hate that – why should they get the win because they couldn’t get along? If you fight each other and cause the end of the match that way, you’re a loser. If I were Hijo de Pierroth or Rambo, I’d protest this to the commission.

indy (FRI) 02/16 Guaymas, Sonora Results [Contragolpe @ El Martinete]
1) Black Devil b Negrosino
2) Enfermero Jr. b Chacal
3) Sombra I, Sombra III b Azteca & Contragolpe
4) Cien Caras, Willy Cortez, Dr. Karonte b Super Halcon, Rey Centella Jr., Mastodonte

Why is Cien Caras doing random matches? ($$$?)

CMLL (SUN) 02/11 Arena Neza Results [The Gladiatores]
1) Chamaco Vadillo, Dark Devil b Ambar, Boaz
2) Mohicano I, Mohicano II DRAW Luis Cirio, Tony Cirio
3) Danger, Flash b Caligula, Messala
4) Rayo Tapatio I, Rayo Tapatio II, Satanico b Apocalipsis, Dr. X, Nitro
5) Felino, Mistico, Sagrado b Ramstein, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero

La Mascara (Sagrado), Averno (Tarzan) and Mephisto (Ultimo) were all supposed to be in the main event. La Mistica on Ultimo. Flash did a 450 to win here, and the report didn’t note an arm injury here. Maybe another show the same day? Tough for him to be in Guadalajara the same day, unless my geography is way off. Ramstein is the (unofficial) Rey de Neza.

CMLL (SUN) 02/11 Colonia Aguil Azul, Neza Lineup [The Gladiatores]
1) Senky, Sculman, Can Star b Lobo Vikingo, Bestia Metalca, Sobredosis
2) Mini Olimpico, Ultimo Dragoncito b Mini Halloween, Mini Damian 666
3) La Nazi, Amapola, ? b Marcela, Sahori, Flor Metalica
4) Misterioso II, Okumura, Makabro DQ Fantasma, Hijo del Fantasma, Fantasma Jr.
5) Dos Caras Sr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Felino b Olimpico, Mascara Ano 2000, Tarzan Boy

BAJA STAR (SAT) 02/10 Auditorio de Tijuana Results [The Gladiatores]
0) Cazador, Rey Divino b Inmortal, Siniestro
1) Calavera, Clon b Duende, Kimura
2) Ricochet, Super Rhino b Angel Negro Jr., Pancho Cachondo
3) Extassis, Star Boy b Enfermero Jr., Pierroth Jr.
4) Hijo de Rey Misterio, Rey Misterio Sr., Super Astro DQ Mortiz, Principe Arandu, TJ Boy
5) LA Park, Latin Lover b Hector Garza, Super Parka

Latin’s apparently making his own schedule, which is how he ends up facing a CMLL guy while working on AAA TV.

AAA Villalobos (SAT) 02/10 Auditorio Local de La Magdalena Atlicpac Results [The Gladiatores]
1) Callejero, Perro Cibernetico b Angel del Metal, Super Destello
2) Mascara de Oro Y Plata, Super Mascara b Iluminado, King Demon
3) La Parkita, Mascarita Magnifica b Mini Charly Manson, Mini Cuervo
4) Demonio Cibernetico, Guerrero Negro, Johnny Villalobos b Laredo Kid, Nemesis AAA, Super Fly
5) Diabolica, Monster, Muerte del Diablo b Alebrije, Martha Villalobos, Zorro

There are also AULL results over on The Gladiatores, but author pretty much passed on giving results in the tag team tournament, as far as I could tell, and nothing much of note happened.

AAA Munoz (WED) 02/14 Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi Results [El Sol de SLP]
3) Fabi Apache, Martha Villalobos b La Diabólica, Miss Janeth
4) Alberije, Billy Boy b Gran Apache, Monsther
5) Billy Boy, El Elegido, Zorro b Abismo Negro, Alan Stone, Cibernetico

Negro Casas and Texano are headed back to Japan next month, with Texano getting a title match against Minoru for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. This title match is out of nowhere, and I thought this was just a case of “Japan loves cowboys”, but no, there’s a ISSUE here

Minoru explained that when he went to Mexico around four years ago, he and Texano developed an unusual hatred for each other and that Texano tricked him when telling him directions and Minoru ended up in a taxi for about five hours. If he defeats Texano, he wants the young Mexican to pay him back the taxi fare.

(courtesy Strong Style Spirit)

So I guess Minoru has heat with Texano. How much is 5 hours of taxi fare in Mexico City? We may have to open up a collection box.

TV question: Did the Tag Title match air this weekend? Which match aired last weekend?

Magazines
Super Luchas celebrates it’s 200th issue. Congratulation to them.
Luchas 2000 356 has the new trios champs, Volador Jr. with his trophy, and Rayo de Jalisco’s return to Arena Mexico.

Charly Manson chats at boxylucha.com on Wednesday.

La Estrella De Iquique has an interview with Guerrera de Titanes old Numbero Uno fan (that was his gimmick, apparently.)

02/16 AAA TV Results

triplea.com

AAA TV (FRI) 02/16 Plaza de Toros de Uruapan, Michoacan Results
1) La Diabolica, Lola Gonzalez, Vicky Carranza DQ La Hechicera, Linda Star, Martha Villalobos
2) Pegasso, Super Fly b Espiritu, Scoria [AAA TAG, torneo]
3) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider b Alebrije, Brazo [AAA TAG, torneo]
4) El Dandy, Fuerza Guerrera, Pirata Morgan b Brazo de Plata Jr., Psicosis II, Tinieblas Jr.
5) Intocable, La Parka Jr., Octagon, Super Porky b Alan Stone, Hator, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido
6) Charly Manson, Chessman, Cibernetico b Black Bufalo, Head Hunter I, Nicho

You may be asking, “Who is Black Bufalo?” Well, he’s the guy in the middle in the picture, and that’s all I know. Glad I could help. (He’s working an AAA spot show w/Rossy vs Cinthia/Oriental this weekend, but I don’t have anything else by that name – new gimmick for someone?)

Main event was Legion dominated, with Ciber sneaking in a foul on Nicho and Chessman covering for the win. Semimain saw more Octagon/Fuerza stuff as they continue the tease. Juvi missed the show due to injuried suffered at the last TV taping.

The big news, of course, is the tag team tournament. Rey Cometa and Super Fly could’ve faced 13 teams they haven’t gone up against before, and they beat one of the three they had. They broke the tournament! Once I finally figured out what was going on, I shot off confetti in the CMLLBlog offices to celebrate this day.

MAYBE everyone faces everyone TWICE. So it’s 240 matches instead of 120, and this will go to 2009! I’ve reprogrammed the chart to allow multiple matches between teams, which was hard with the confetti all over my keyboard and such.

UPDATED STANDINGS (chart)
P M
12 4 Super Fly & Rey Cometa/Pegasso
12 4 Crazy Boy & Joe Lider
9 3 Cuervo & Ozz
6 3 Alan Stone & Zumbido
3 2 Alebrije & El Brazo
3 2 Antifaz & Histeria
3 2 Charly Manson & Pirata Morgan
3 3 Chris Stone & Hator
3 3 Mascara Divina & Oriental
3 3 El Angel, Laredo Kid
3 3 Alliens, Gran Apache
3 3 Juventud Guerrera & Psicosis II
3 4 Espiritu & Scoria
3 4 May Flowers, Pimpinela Escarlata
3 4 Alan & Decnis
0 1 El Elegido & Intocable

Putting aside the gross lack of logic and organization in this tag team tournament – and in AAA generally! – there does appear to be leaders forming and some sort of pattern here. Those top two teams are logical champions, though a rivalry between them would be tecnico/tecnico. They should cut this thing off right now, and just do a tournament with the top four teams; I’m only a fan of one of ’em, but if you’re doing midrange tag team titles in AAA, those four fit.

Next known TV taping is 03/03, though I bet my hat that there’s one this week somewhere.

02/18: LA Park, IWRG, Accion

Ovaciones reports that LA Park was suspended two weeks for his attack on Dr. Wagner on 02/09. Which means the suspension is more than half over before we even heard about it (and as a non-regular, no one would’ve noticed he was purposefully not being scheduled unless someone said something about it.) LA Park says CMLL just suspended him to protect their boy Wagner, and he was already booked in northern Mexico anyway.

Next Thursday, IWRG’s running a cage of death, with hair and masks on the line, but a title that’ll actually change hands.

Mask: Electroshock (what could he possibly look like underneath that mask!), Fantasma de la Opera
Hair: Bestia Salvaje (lives!), Villano III, El Dandy, Hijo del Diablo, Suicida
Title: Black Pentagon (IWRG Middle, I presume)

I guess the old guys could drop their hair for a payday – it would explain where Bestia came from, at least. Speaking of random people showing up, the semimain includes Nosawa and Kaz Hayashi.

AAA hasn’t posted any results yet.

Accion

CMLL: Trios title match. Tarzan and Hector are wrestling in shirts. (Wellness policy?) Ultimo’s spinning double submission was the one to end them all. They tried a spot where Ultimo backdropped Hector into a dive towards Atlantis, Tarzan and Aguila, but the backdrop wasn’t high enough and Hector got caught in the ropes on the way down. Of the three catchers, Atlantis was the farthest one away and the only one who actually tried to catch him. Atlantis and Ultimo got the double Atlantidas once again, but this time Hector and Perro escaped and cradled them for the titles. Clean.

AAA: Parka, Octagon, Alerbije, Zorro vs Abismo, Antifaz, Histeria, Niebla from Puebla. Layoff has not hurt Parka’s ability to be a goof. If anything, these clips show that he had much goofiness bundled up that he just had to get out. Abismo set up for what could’ve been the Martinez Special on Alberije, so Hijo de Tirantes – just kinda stood behind him. Abismo back elbowed him for infringing on his personal space, and then set up for the Martinez Special on him. Abismo held it up, which gave Latin Lover time to get in an foul him. Alerije tripped up Abismo and pressed slammed Cuije on top before collapsing, and Zorro covered Cuije and Abismo for the win.
