Lucha Times

GALA AAA: The debut of Mr. Niebla. And other things. The schedule for the show is goofy this week due to a soccer cup.

GdR: All the Misterioso II you could ever want.

FSE: Preview hypes Nitro vs Satanico, that grand old rivalry. Also, Mistico/Warrior to set up a match next week.

CMLL in Mexico should have the usual, and AAA in Mexico has Nicho’s debut.

02/07: Rayo

While we’re pointing you to the Super Luchas content, we might as well discuss the Rayo de Jalisco Jr. interview. It’s interesting
– Rayman is a non entity; Rayo opts not to even mention his name when talking about the situation. The story Rayos’ going with now (which may be right for all I know), is Rayman was just some guy Rayo thought he’d help out of the kindness of his heart. That guy acted unworthy of the Rayo de Jalisco name (Rayo does not explain how), so it was taken away from him. Rayo says they’ll try again with a new one, maybe in five years, but they need time to distance from this failure. Rayo doesn’t like that he’s being portrayed as the bad guy in all of this and is planning to call a press confrence to clear this all up.
– He hasn’t been around CMLL because he’s been so busy being an international superstar, he doesn’t quite have time for a national promotion like CMLL. Rayo says he was going to be on the anniversary show, but had a tour in Germany. (Maybe that was Groon’s spot?)
– He’s had offers from AAA – once to appear at a show in Guadalajara as a surprise wrestler (not sure which taping), and he
was close to signing in September (this must’ve been TripleMania, where the other Groon filled in) – but they haven’t come to an agreement.
– Rayo’s opening a website in a month. I’m going to guess that he’ll not be the first luchador to have a worthwhile website.

Let me tell you, it’s fun to be a cynical person who trusts nothing and believes less.

Freelance beat Avisman for his hair on Sunday in Naucalpan.

As teased on last Sunday, Mistico and Black Warrior will indeed meet in a singles match this Sunday. No title is listed on the line.

Guerreros del Ring #73 has Santo.

Battle of March 23rd

Ovaciones, having a busy morning, also reports that the current scheduled date for the annual CMLL March Santo/Lutteroth tribute show is March 23rd. That’s the Friday WWE will be in Mexico City, so Mistico vs Perro could go head up with this lineup

WWE (THU) 03/22 Palacido de los Deportes Lineup [superluchas]
?) Bobby Lashley vs Rob Van Dam vs Hardcore Holly [ECW]
?) Batista, Chris Benoit, Kane vs King Booker, Mr. Kennedy, MVP

WWE (FRI) 03/23 Palacido de los Deportes Lineup [superluchas]
?) Bobby Lashley vs Rob Van Dam [ECW]
?) Batista vs Mr. Kennedy [WORLD]

plus the usual Smackdown/ECW names to appear. In addition, Super Luchas had a story about the WWE (or the local promoter) wanting to use CMLL wrestlers on these shows. Shocker and Mistico were two of the names listed, but as long as CMLL controls bookings for him, I will eat my shoe if Mistico works that Friday for WWE.

For whatever the cross over is between the WWE and CMLL audiences, I think Perro/Mistico is stronger than anything here, and that would likely end up on PPV. Here’s the wild card: on this week’s SmackDown, they’ll announce that Rey Mysterio will return on 02/23. That’s about three months ahead of schedule, so something may be up, but if he’s working, he’ll be at these shows and a huge help to WWE.

02/05 AAA TV Results

What’s the better half truth headline?

– La Parka Jr. turned!
– Two La Parka’s showed up!

AAA TV (MON) 02/05 Plaza de Toros de Irapuato, Guanajuato Results [AAA, ova]
1) Miss Janeth, Rossy Moreno, Tiffany b La Diabolica, La Hechicera, Martha Villalobos
2) May Flowers, Pimpinela Escarlata b Angel, Laredo Kid [AAA TAG, torneo]
3) Antifaz, Histeria b Mascara Divina, Oriental [AAA TAG, torneo]
4) Fuerza Guerrera, Pirata Morgan, Sangre Chicana b Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventued Guerrera
5) Alan Stone, Hator, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido b Alebrije, Intocable, Octagon, Super Porky
6) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz b Charly Manson, Chessman, Cibernetico [cage]

Main event was usual escape rules, though no hair was on the line. It turned into an extreme match. Charly Manson and Cibernetico were the first out, which kinda left Chessman screwed. Cuervo and Ozz made it out next, and it came down to Scoria and Chessman on the top of the cage. La Parka Jr. appeared, and knocked Chessman off the cage back into the ring, allowing the Sect to win. (Chessman was strechered out.) Another La Parka Jr. appeared, a fight brought out, and the interfering La Parka Jr’s mask was yanked off to reveal…Nicho. He’s back, part of the Foreign Legion, and looking for revenge for the Hell Brothers injuring Konnan.

Guapos won the semi when Fuerza attacked Octagon and Tirantes allowed it. They’re pushing this feud hard and all the stuff with Tirantes appears to mean they’ve decided on the final finish, but there’s a reason these two have been feuding for 16 years and neither has lost their mask.

Fuerza got over any problems he had fighting his son, as Juvi was left bloody and beaten. Pirata Morgan got the pin on Juvi for the win. No explanation about no Dandy (or Psicosis II, for that matter.)

Diabloica turned on Martha in the opener, which I guess we all could’ve seen coming, if anyone had cared.

AAA 01/06/07

GdT show, taped 12/08. I watched this over two weeks, so I don’t quite have the best memory of it the whole show now. The main event was quite not good – the week before was better. Cibernetico needs to figure out something to do when he’s in control as a tecnico, because he had nothing here. Not that the crowd cared at all.

The four way wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. The Dark Family/Mexican Powers match was going along as well as it possible could, but then things brought down when the Mexican Powers got to do wacky double teams. Which is what you expect. I dunno that the Muerte run in that match accomplished anything, but I can’t be too concerned about Crazy Boy’s wellbeing.

The goal this week is to at least cut my lag to one episode, and to fly thru the recap episodes to accomplish it. If I ever did catch up, I have plans to take advantage of it, but it’s gotta happen first.
