CMLL GDR - 12/02/06 (#54)
Recapped: 12/10/06
I could've sworn I just heard Magadan call Ultimo Guerrero "the Hulk Hogan of lucha libre" but I'm surely losing my mind. Someone figured out how to do insert video this week and is very proud, by the way.
Guy Who Had A Mask But Doesn't Now: Super Archie. I bet this'll turn out to be - actually, I don't know and I'm not sure I care. He reveals himself to be Nuevo Impacto. Who turns out to be Adonis Salazar! Okay, I take it back, that's pretty neat.
Match 1: Ohara, Okumura, Sangre Azteca (c) vs Fabian el Gitano, Leono, Virus (c)
Arena Coliseo, 11/24/06
Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:18
Approx Rating: Okay.
Other Match Notes: No intros. The arena sounds empty. Terror Chino and
Pompi are your refs.
1: Sangre and Virus get the long open, working mostly on the mat. Fabian's solidly in control of Ohara until he gets a full nelson and waves Leono (and his big gloves) in for a big boot. That doesn't go well, though they recover for a Leono springboard elbow to the back which looks very not fun. Rudos belatedly clear the ring, but Virus returns the favor - DDT on Okumura, 'rana - oh, no, Sangre powerbombed him for three. That's fall - it turned quick.
2: Beatdown is on. Fabian takes the super high flapjack and a triple sliding dropkick to send him to the floor. Leono's giant gloves can't help him here. They're not even really gloves this week, because he's cut the hand out, they're just like giant - wristbands? gauntlets? Missing the right word, and he's done after taking a mistimed triple facebuster anyway. Virus has his turn. Corner charges, Sangre last for a top rope 'rana, but Virus shoves him off and gets a middle rope spinning headscissors on Ohara. Fabian in, and a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for Okumura. Things settle down quickly, so it's just Sangre and Fabian in. Fabian needs to cut out the Rayo running tope headbutts. They don't work for him. Fabian puts Sangre in reverse neckbreaker hold, which doesn't look quite right. Leono takes Ohara out, and Ohara is nice enough to stand around while Leono does the two jumps necessary for his top rope springboard moonsault, and is also nice enough to move closer to catch Leono when he gets no distance, though Ohara gets a knee to the back of his head for the effort. Virus gives Okumura La Rosa, and that's it - actually, it was over back when Fabian got his submission, but I missed the signal on that at first.
3: They're already fighting as we're looking at the ring girl, but we come back in time to see Leono do another springboard moonsault. This one's better, but just to land on his feet, as he wrestles Okumura a bit more before sending him out with a superkick. Sangre and Virus are next and fast. They know what the other guy is doing it well before it happens. Ohara is in, and not that in tune, but he does take a dropkick tot eh face. Virus' cover is broken up by Okumura, but Virus lays him out with the windup right, actual punch from the left. Gitano's turn, and he quickly gets Ohara in a step over double armbar. The other rudos break that up with a double kick. Leono comes into help but take a double kick. Virus comes in, but it's three on one. He does what he can, ridding the ring of Okumura, but Azteca and Ohara work him over with kicks. Virus evades another double whip, but gets dropkicked out. Leon comes in with a plancha, but Sangre tosses him off and Ohara pulls him down by the hair. Sangre knocks Fabian down off the apron as the Japanese set up Leono, and boos Sangre into a flying stomp into Leono's backside. Ohara gives Fabian a weird looking jumping high knee, and he's covered for the three.
Match 2: Atlantis (c), Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero vs
Dos Caras Jr. (c), Heavy Metal, Sagrado
Arena Coliseo, 11/26/06
Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:54
Approx Rating: Fun though not special.
Other Match Notes: Good to see Heavy Metal back to using his watermelon
crushing powers for the forces of good. Dos gets the prematch interview and
talks trash about Atlantis. Rudos come out together, because they're a gang.
This may be more Sangre Azteca than one man can handle. In their interview,
Magadan debates whether this interview should be done in English, Spanish, or
perhaps Spanglish, while Atlantis professes himself a master of not only pro
lucha libre, but also greco roman lucha libre, olympic lucha libre, and
freestyle lucha libre.
1: Sangre and Heavy Metal start on the mat, except the moment Metal gets a surfboard, Atlantis and Ultimo boot him. Both sides need a bit calmly down before things can resume. Metal get s a legbar, and Atlantis comes back in to break it up. Atlantis makes sure to shove Dos and then retreat. Heavy Metal is the voice of reason here, which makes me worried about this tecnico team. Metal gets another hold, and this time the rudos decide they just might as well do the beatdown. Sangre goes after Dos Cara's mask - he has to climb up the ropes to get that high. Once they get the team together, the rudos work over Dos with corner charges. The air horns have a fit. Sangre isn't on the same page as the other when they want do the jumping sit, and then it turns out to be something else entirely, with Sangre tossed out onto Dos. Sagrado and Metal in - into double Atlántidas!
2: Rudos hold the ring as the fall starts. Sagrado flips in, and they let him free for a second before starting tag move son him. Again, Sangre's not quite on the same page as his teammates, but they make it work. Metal gets worked over in the corner, and then whipped the other way - Sangre has a climb up dropkick in his repertoire now. Crowd chants for Dos as he's brought in. He's totally going to sidestep this corner charge, right? Yep, and a climb up enziguri for Ultimo too. (Nice of Sangre to stand there and do nothing.) Revenge is on, though it takes a moment for someone to get around to hitting Sangre. Dos figures it out and takes care of that - revenge mask untying! Sangre Azteca vs Dos Caras Jr. is a feud that now must happen. Dos actually pulls Sangre's mask off, but we don't see his face. All that hair helps. Things settle down to one on ones, with Heavy and Atlantis in. Heavy gives Atlantis a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and a dropkick to send him out, and a dropkick there. Dos in with Sangre, and Dos has no problem pressing him into a powerbomb. Meanwhile, Sagrado gets the up and over sunset flip on Ultimo for stereo pins and the fall.
3: Atlantis and Sagrado start, with Atlantis landing a clothesline and celebrating with everyone. Corner whip, Sagrado walks up the ropes and comes down with a plancha. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, and Atlantis is bailing. Sangre in, and he takes the backbreaker/gutbuster set. Ultimo in, and Sagrado gives him the bouncing armdrag. They're out quick, and that's good because Sagrado could use a moment to breath. Dos in. Sangre in to face him again. This is kinda like Apolo vs Giant Silva, though slightly better. Sangre talks trash to Dos, and Sods just looks at him. Off the ropes, Sangre shoulderblock does nothing. Dos talks trash now. Sangre going to try again? Off the ropes, shoulderblock, down goes Sangre again. Dos is not impressed. Sangre slaps Dos, and tells him to go try. Dos asks the fans if they want to see it. Dos off the ropes, shoulderblock, and Sangre flies out of the ring. Well, he tried. And he set up Dos for an Ultimo back elbow. Dos fires free of double teams by Ultimo and Atlantis, and catches Sangre on a crossbody. Dos rocks Sangre to sleep, and then gives him a blockbuster suplex. Dropkick knocks Sangre out, and Dos does a bit of a tiger mask fakeout for fun. Metal in, and Atlantis to face him. Metal dropkicks Atlantis out, but again doesn't get far before he's attacked by the rudos. Dos in, he ducks a double clothesline, and boosts Sagrado into a double dropkick (more like a stomp) on Sangre and Ultimo. Sagrado tope con giro onto both! Dos springboard plancha onto both! Atlántida and Metal left in, Meal slides under, stands up, and Atlantis low blows him. Everyone saw it, and that's a DQ. Atlantis can't believe they'd DQ for a kick to the inside of the thigh. Atlantis explains the unfair situation to his partners, who start to leave. Sangre takes a moment to yell at the tecnico fans, and Dos drags him back to the ring by his hair. Sangre breaks away free for a second, and bolts to the back!
Sagrado tells the announcers how much he deplores Atlantis' actions. Metal's not too happy about it either. Replays and we're done.
