CMLL GDR - 10/07/06 (#46)
Recapped: 10/08/06

Profiled: Tony Salazar.

The Fired Up ads have officially driven me insane, but at least it's giving me fun stuff to lookup on wikipedia. Like they're apparently saying "I'm Blue. Da Ba Dee Da Ba Die."

Match 1: Arkangel (c), Hooligan, Mr. Mexico vs Oro II, Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico (c)
Arena Coliseo, 10/01/06

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:32
Approx Rating: Good to see these guys on TV, but this was nothing special
Other Match Notes: Hooligan has a Green and Red outfit - can't just wear the Intendance day outfits one week, they cost too much. Or maybe it's a matching thing he's doing with Arkangel? Arkangel gets the pre-match interview and has nothing much to say - tonight's the night of the rudos, the night of the Pandilla Guerrera! Tigre Metalico has Shocker's old music, for whatever reason. Magadan interviews him - with no glasses? Maybe Magadan was off getting laser eye surgery! Either Tigre or Magadan screw up and they crack each other up in the process. Wait a sec - how did Tigre Metalico slip ahead of Tigre Blanco for captainship? (He does look bulked up, hmmm.)

1: Metalico and Hooligan start, basic stuff for about half a minute. Onto Blanco and Arkangel. Onto my fire alarms going off! Okay, now that fixed and can hear, I've unpaused the lucha. Blanco is in a hurry, quickly getting a hiptoss and a middle ropes headscissors before getting a pose. Tags to - Hooligan and Metalico? I was wondering if Oro was any better, but I guess we have to wait to find out. Not much longer, though. Hooligan misses a clothesline almost immediately, slides out for no reason, and Metalico topes him. Got him good. Oro immediately gets Mr. Mexico with an armdrag into a half crab, which is unique (enough that I'm not sure if he's doing right) for one submission (2:13) Arkangel gets rolled up by Blanco's hammerlock cradle, and that's it. (2:20) Julio's going pretty overboard with this trio.

2: This fall starts off with the Oro II/Mr. Mexico exchange. It's okay - Oro ends it with a springboard armdrag to the floor. Onto Blanco and Hooligan. Announcers talk about the Minis title here? Hooligan's a very happy man when he's ahead, but Blanco takes care of that - and he ends with a rope flip headscissors, basically. That was quite naturally. Hooligan acts as though he may be broken on the outside, but returns to battle soon after. Metalico and Guerrero in. Arkangel wants a handshake? Nah, he lured in Metalico for all the rudos to get a shot. They go back to one one, with Metalico getting a few flashy spots in, but Arkangel bailing out of the way of a dive. Hooligan tries to sneak attack Blanco, misses , and then goes down in the ring. Arkangel checks on him, and they tell Oro what's going on. Oro leans over, and they beat him up! Oro is dumb. Arkangel and Hooligan make a wish with him, and put on double armscissors (Or something like that.) That's it for Oro. (3:26) Blanco tries to go for the up and over sunset flip on Mr. Mexico, and Mr. Mexico powerbombs him down hard. POSE. (3:35) It wasn't really a Mr. Mexico match till that. Arkangel begs off from Metalico on the outside. It's too late to help his team anyway. MR. Mexico ends up cheap shooting Metalico, and Arkangel dumps that Tigre on the entrance ramp. Is that dude reading CMLL Magazine? I think so.

3: Turnaround appears to be clipped out, which is never good. Oro and Mr. Mexico do spots in the ring while the others feign fighting on the outside. Arkangel and Tigre Metalico quickly take their place, as things settle down. Exchange of chest slaps, and Metalico wins. They rematch, and Tigre wins again. They battle form their knees, and Tigre slaps Arkangel down. Arkangel tries a whip, Tigre gets a sunset flip, Arkangel very slowly goes down for it. What the heck? It's like he was planning on blocking it, and legitimately lost his balance. A shoot sunset flip, if you will. It's a one count. Metalico gets a roll 'rana, Arkangel rolls thru, one two no. Metalico sends Arkangel out with a dropkick, Arkangel bails, Metalico jumps to the apron, and looks to dive, and turns around into a kick by Mr. Mexico. Huh, okay. Mr. Mexico and Blanco mix it up, with Mr. Mexico landing a corner clothesline I was sure going to be side stepped. Mr. Mexico goes for a corner whip, Tigre reveres, double chop, and a catapult sends Mr. Mexico cross ring. Mr. Mexico rolls out, and around the ring to be out of Blanco dive range - and Oro hits with a apron tope con giro! Just barely got him, not caught at all. Back in the ring, Blanco backdrops Hooligan. Dropkick sends the fake Brit out, and Blanco to the apron after him - Asai Moonsault connects. This leaves the captains, which they've been building up strong. Metalico ducks a clothesline, springboard - well, it turned it into a crossbody, one two NO. Metalico looked quite unsteady on the ropes there. He's frustrated at only getting two. Chest slaps, chest slap, chest slap blocked, and Ark gives him a chicken wing backbreaker! Senton! One two three. (3:37) I think that was the expecting outcome, though the fans are not digging Arkangel.

Match 2: Averno (c), Emilio Charles Jr., Mephisto vs Lizmark (c), Maximo, Volador Jr.
Arena Coliseo, 10/01/06

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:51
Approx Rating: Just okay.
Other Match Notes: Averno gets the pre-match interview - after he's beaten Negro Casas for the title, he's not really worried about the likes of these three tecnicos. Averno's losing his voice here. ZOOM. Maximo stops and stares at the camera on the way to the ring, which is great. This is Volador's first match back after the neck injury.

1: It's tough to say how old Lizmark looks here, but I think the process to find out would involve carbon dating. He and Averno start, and Lizmark gets in a few armdrags. It's a sign of how different Mexico is that Averno is one of the upper level guys, his body would be best described as "doughy" in this match, and that's fine. It does seem to help if you're a tecnico. Mephisto and Volador get into a posing contest, competing for reactions. It's quite helped out by Maximo booing and shrieking for each one. Mephisto slaps Maximo, which of course just spurs him on to be sillier. The fans chant for Volador, so Mephisto stalls some more by posing. Volador blows Maximo a kiss this time, which wipes Maxim out. Chest slaps by Mephisto, Volador does the corner turnaround and gets in some chops of his own. His own need some work, actually. Mephisto comes out of the corner with a clothesline, Volador ducks and lands a featherkick, and out goes Mephisto. Tags, and Maximo is in with Emilio. Emilio looks like a caveman here. Oh gosh, there's a man in a Universo mask who's infiltrated the rowdy tecnico section! This can lead to no good. Maximo wastes no time reversing moves to end up with hi s crotch in Emilio's face. Emilio blocks strikes, blocks the touch on the butt, and Maximo still sneaks in the kiss to the head. Emilio is appalled. Things break down form there, with all three tecnicos coming into work over Averno. Volador gives Averno a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, and immediately grabs his neck - is he still hurting? He goes to the corner and gets checked on as Lizmark and Maximo finish off Averno - a Maximo 'rana does it. There seems to be some genuine concern with the doctor and referees, but not enough to replace him in the match.

2: Volador is still grabbing his neck, but starting off the fall with Mephisto. Volador off the ropes, over, off the ropes, handspring backflip, grabbing head neck with both arms but still running, ducks a clothesline and pulls off a spinning headscissors while holding his head. And then he does the a celebratory roll! It's like he's not making the connection between his neck pain and the things he's doing to make his neck hurt. Luckily, it's time for him to tag out (and slump in the corner.) Maximo's all too willing to massage the neck, but Volador seems more willing to lie on the bottom rope. Averno and Lizmark in, and It's time for monkey flips and rolls. The old guys still do the tilt-a-whirl backbreakers the back, and that's it for Averno. Maximo and Emilio back in - wait, no, Maximo has to up the middle rope first. Mephisto attacks Maximo from behind before they can get going, and he takes care of the guys on the ramp too. If Volador hasn't figured out when his neck hurts, Mephisto has, and he's attacking it. Meanwhile, Emilio gives Maximo a chinlock! Brawling, Averno putting Lizmark in a hammerlock around the top rope, not much action. Emilio gets the half crab on Maximo to finish him. (3:00) Averno gets Lizmark down when we're looking at Mephisto step on Volador's neck, and that's it. (3:06)

In between falls is clipped, maybe. Or two seconds long

3: Averno and Mephisto give Volador the camel clutch/dropkick to the head, and Volador sells it like someone stabbed him in the spine with a knife. I hope he's selling it! (Yea, he's gotta be.) Maximo brought in, and whipped into Averno's boots. Lizmark in, and gets in nothing before he's tossed back out. Maximo's brought in - I guess they figure they can do more things to him. Snap mare, everyone to the ropes - the tecnicos pull out Averno and Mephisto, and Maximo dives out of the way of Emilio's dropkick. Comeback is on - Maximo doing it by - pulling Emilio's hair and throwing him around much, which the referees don't approve of. Volador gets in some chops on Mephisto and is generally holding his neck less. Flying butt bump on Emilio. Emilio goes out, Averno &U Mephisto double big boot Maximo out, and then grab Volador. Averno holds him, Mephisto off the ropes, Volador moves, and Averno eats the boot. Reversals lead to Volador trying for a campana on Mephisto, but Mephisto slipping away. Volador charges, clothesline blocked, kick wham DDT! He's dead! One two three. (2:26) Pause, and then Lizmark remembers he's the captain - 'rana on Mephisto, one two three. (2:40) Lizmark should thank Mephisto later for making that one work. So we need one more. Averno in, and clotheslining Mephisto. He looks around and nods at the crowd - he's going to win, for sure. Whip, reversed, and Lizmark drops Averno with the tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Averno off the ropes, big boot backs up Lizmark, charge again, and Lizmark hiptosses him to the floor. Lizmark going all the way to the top rope - pescado! Emilio in and taking a look at the bodies - and Maximo cradles him, one two NO! Referees checking the people on the outside - and Emilio stops a waistlock with a low blow mule kick. One two three. (3:41) Maximo is quite hurting, but Emilio's fine with it.

Magadan talks to the winners. Emilio says they always win. Magadan tells the rowdy tecnico fans to shut up while he's talking. Averno says the rudos are the greatest - look who's laying in the ring, and look who's standing. Mephisto and Magadan agree that Volador's going back to the hospital. Evil laugh time. Emilio parties hard. Replays, and we're done.

That's it.
