CMLL GDR - 07/22/06 (#35)

Getting ready with: India Sioux. She's wearing a Rey Bucanero shirt - I wonder if they'll explain that. I would try to figure out myself, but I'm trying to determine if that ring is on her ring finger. I do notice they talk about her taking up her mom's identity in one of these. They do talk about Rey in one of the last ones of these bits - she's happy for cousin, turning tecnico and winning the belt.

Prematch interview: Ultimo Guerrero, who's immediately provoked by bringing up the title loss on Friday. Ultimo angrily explains Rey used illegal holds. He's going to take it to a new level today, with Dos Caras Jr. specifically focused on. With a title or without one, he's still the best.

Match 1: Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Lizmark vs Olímpico, Pierroth, Último Guerrero (c)
Arena Coliseo, 07/16/06

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:55
Approx Rating: Okay. Set up next week adequately.
Other Match Notes: Can someone please beat Lizmark for his mask so he can go home? Everyone's a winner. Ultimo takes out some of his anger on Dos as he enters. They brawl towards a row of masked tecnico fans, and Ultimo tries to grab a sign from a guy in a Hijo de Lizmark match - but the fan stops him! Ultimo turns to take care of Dos a little bit more, and then pie faces that fan! HE PULLED THE MASK! This is sure starting out weird. Olimpico attacks Wagner. Olimpico grabs Wagner's belt off of him, and decides the best way to use it to jab it into his midsection. The fruits and vegetables have gone to his head.

ill timed prematch interview: Dr. Wagner Jr. The Doctor isn't sure who he's supposed to be feuding with here, so he picks fight with Pierroth, Olimpico, and Magadan. No one mentions LA Park. He cracks up Magadan, so mission accomplished.

Opening bell to the first match is about 12 minutes in, or 1/6th the length of the show.

1: Rudo beatdown, naturally. Crowd's cheering for Wagner. Dos and Wagner are forced into corners - Dos so Ultimo can untie and pull off his mask most of the way - actually all the way, but they cut away from it and I guess 'the referee didn't see it from his angle'. Wagner's forced in the corner so Olimpico and Pierroth don't have to do much, I believe. Ultimo lets up to allow Dos to put his mask back on, and then Ultimo pulls it 90% off again. Pierroth defeats Lizmark with the least intense side half crab possible. Timing is a bit off on a Dos corner whip, but they get it together so everyone can clothesline him, and Ultimo can add the handstand sit. Bad looking double crab to take care of him. Ultimo goes after Dos' mask some more in between falls, and Olimpico slams Wagner on the ramp. The show sticks around the whole in between fall break, and then go to the India Sioux bit before break.

2: Rudo beatdown continues. Dos is isolated first, and worked over on the ropes. GdI sit on him. Lizmark in, and fighting, but doesn't last. Ultimo gives Wagner a running boot to keep him off the apron. Lizmark takes a double something - clothesline? Couldn't tell. Ultimo bumps Lizmark out. Wagner in, and looking at the fans while being hurt. Ultimo and Olimpico do the slingshot/clothesline back over the knees spot, and I'm wondering what high risk thing Pierroth is going to do, but it turns out he's doing nothing (shock) and Olimpico's doing double duty, adding a running somersault senton. Dos brought back in, and Pierroth single handily holds in the ropes. Dos tries desperately to kick Ultimo, but Ultimo stands six inches away from his foot's reach and just stares at him. Dos tries to draw from the crowd and Olimpico and Ultimo do the huddle dance to set up the GdI sit Pierroth can't hold Dos in position for that long (and really never has him set up), so Olimpico gets tossed into the ropes instead of an opponent. Comeback is on. Lizmark looks like quite the old man even when firing in to get some shots on Pierroth. Focus is on Dos and Ultimo, with Dos looking for mask revenge. Wagner gets some revenge on Olimpico, though Olimpico manages to tear up a fan's sign. Ultimo takes a backdrop in the ring, and rolls out before he can take more, but Dos is out after him. Hard kick takes Ultimo down. Head into the stairs. Wagner stokes a chant for him before coming in and facing Pierroth. Clothesline. Powerbomb? Yes. One two three. Lizmark bowls over Olimpico with a top rope tope con giro and executes a 'rana fine, if slow, for the one two three. Ultimo tries to stay away from Dos, and we get some replays. Ah, Ultimo did try to get in the end there, but Dos dropkicked him off the apron.

3: Both sides start square. Ultimo and Dos in, and they take turns posing. Fans not cheering Ultimo, can you believe it? Dos keeps posing, but manages to outsmart Ultimo and get one on him. Ultimo off the ropes, over, out. He's leaving. Dos is after him, so Ultimo moves a but faster to the rudo corner. Ultimo tags in Olimpico, and Dos isn't happy. Wagner is entertaining himself on the apron. Lizmark in to face Olimpico. Olimpico wants a handshake. Lizmark's too busy waving to the fans. Will he shake the hand? Yes. Olimpico hugs him - and gives him a kneelift to the gut. Olimpico's very proud of himself. Chest slap. Corner whip, Olimpico charges in and lands a clothesline. Chest slap. Corner whip, reversed, Atlantis charges in, Olimpico take a monkey flip. Olimpico retreats to the far corner, Lizmark charges, Olimpico side steps, but Lizmark's just runs up the middle rope. Olimpico is slow to realize this, and his punch is kicked away. Lizmark jumps over his head for a headscissors, sending Olimpico out. Lizmark tags in Wagner, who's pumped to get in. Pierroth to get in to face him, except Wagner is circling around him like a nutcase. Pierroth stops this by chopping him down. Wagner pops up and starts running again, so Pierroth chops him again and again. Wagner looks at the crowd, and Pierroth pounces him from behind. Corner whip, reversed, Wagner urns into a boot, Wagner readjusts his head, and kinda suplexes Pierroth as he rushes out of the corner. Not on the same page there. Spine kick. Off the ropes, dropkick taps the back of the head. Pose. Ultimo tries to ambush Wagner, but Dos cuts him off. Wagner has a lewd gesture for Ultimo. Okay, Dos and Ultimo finally ready to go at it. Ultimo off the ropes, jumping shoulderblock, and Dos doesn't go down. Dos is pumped. Ultimo tries it again, and still Dos is standing. Dos consults with Wagner, and that's a weird consultation. Ultimo off the ropes - clothesline does work. Ultimo takes a second to look at the booing crowd. Whip, reversed, Ultimo jumps and Dos gives him an over head belly suplex. Dos with a scary twisting headscissors, but Ultimo quick up and forearming him. Corner whip, Último heads up, but Dos follows him with the corner enziguri. Dos starts running for a dive, but Pierroth cuts him off with a back elbow. Lizmark in, and he leaves Pierroth with a dropkick. And another - he's getting Pierroth in the face with that. Pierroth rolls out, Lizmark follows, hesitates at the ropes, and gets yanked out. Pierroth tries to headlock Lizmark, but Lizmark posts him. Meanwhile, Wagner and Olimpico are in. Wagner is getting the crowd behind him. Corner whip by Olimpico, he charges in, Wagner tosses him to the apron and forearms him there. Swinging kick knocks Olimpico to the floor, and Wagner follows to the apron. Pose - running tope con giro. Dos and Ultimo back in, and Ultimo doesn't seem too sure about this. Both charge, and Ultimo connects on a back elbow. Dos waves for the crowd. Whip, Dos does the tiger mask fake in the ropes. Ultimo misses a clothesline, dos kicks him and signals for his finisher. Press slam, drop, waistlock - and Ultimo brutally low blow mule kicks him. Ref didn't see it? One's counting, though Lizmark and Wagner try to stop him - one two three - and as soon as he hits three, the other referee raises Dos' arm. They're going to discuss - yea, the DQ is going to hold. We get a replay of the second fall for some reason.

Dos challenges Ultimo to a match next week. Ultimo is still trying to figure how he lost a match where the ref counted three. Ultimo accepts, as long as the commission promises there will only be one ref - that second ref hurt him this time.

Match 2: Atlantis vs Rey Bucanero for the NWA LH Championship
Arena Coliseo, 07/16/06

  1. Rey inside cradle (:13)
  2. Atlántida (1:20)
  3. Atlantis powerbomb  (3:20)

Winner: Atlantis (2-1), retains title
Match Time: 4:53
Approx Rating: Why did they edit the third fall? Made this feel more like a set of highlights than a match.
Other Match Notes: Ultimo is back to be Atlantis' corner man.

Pre-Match Interview: Atlantis, who is just then informed he's facing Rey Bucanero. He's not very happy about that, and they argue. He's going to take this to the commission - he's facing Niebla, not Bucanero! Atlantis storms off.

That seems to be Rey Bucanero with the belt, though he's holding it upside down. He's only had it two days, maybe he doesn't know.

Pre-Match interview: Rey Bucanero. He's happy with the chance to be a double champion over three days, and beat the guy who got him kicked out of the Guerreros.

Lizmark's turned up to be Rey's backup, and he and Atlantis get into an argument over Rey Bucanero not being Mr. Niebla. Ref is Tigre Hispano. Atlantis doesn't want to pose for the prematch photo, because he's not Mr. Niebla. We see Atlantis arguing with the ref and the commission rep in the ring, and then there's a clip. We seem to pick up with the referee deciding to start the match, in hopes to finally get Atlantis to stop complaining.

1: Atlantis rushes in the ring and charge Rey, who backdrops him. Armdrag, armdrags, abdominal stretch inside cradle one two three! Atlantis can't believe he's getting screwed like this and rolls out to throw a fit. He decides the best strategy is to protest this whole thing to the commission one more time. Break.

2: Atlantis is again on the outside when the second fall starts, still upset about this whole turn of events. He comes in, but only to yell at the referee some. The whole world is against Atlantis here. Atlantis eventually turns his attention to Rey, and strikes him down with a big boot. Elbow drop and an elbow drop. Atlantis walks around, confused by how he got here. Headlock, shot off, Atlantis back, over, under, waved by, misses a clothesline, into a Rey armdrags. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Rey signals for he's going to flip - and then charges into Atlántida! Perhaps you should've flipped. All tied up rather quick.

3: Start of the fall is clipped - we pick up as Rey is giving Atlantis a suplex, and then picking him up to set him in the corner. There are definitely some boos here for him. Superplex? Yes! Both men down, and Rey crawls very slowly on top. One two NO. Both men slow up, Atlantis taking the edge and slamming Rey. Elbow drop - how about another? No, he's going up, kicking the ropes in Lizmark's distraction first. Atlantis stops to pose and indicate he has the belt - top rope top con giro misses. Rey kinda hits Atlantis with a senton, one two no. Trademark slow count there. Again, both men slow up. Rey urging the crowd to keep cheering. Atlantis up first, but waiting or Rey to move, Rey charges, Atlántida - no, Rey's got the top rope to get free. Again, Atlantis argues with the ref about the unfairness of it all. Atlantis chest slaps Rey a few times, off the ropes, Buca Storm! One two th-Ultimo pulls out the ref (though he kinda counted three anyway.) Lizmark walks over to yell at Ultimo, who pleads innocence. Tigre Hispano warns them both. Rey's just kinda annoyed. The commission official is throwing Ultimo up. Meanwhile, Atlantis has tried to get up twice and fallen down both times - now he's up for good, so he tries throwing a clothesline. Rey moves, off the ropes, 'rana, Atlantis powerbombs him, one - Ultimo sneaks over to hold down Atlantis' feet two three. Magadan is going nuts. Ultimo gives Atlantis a celebratory ride around the ring. Belt as a hat. Announcers are having quite the argument over this set of events.

That's it.
