CMLL Mini Line - 06/17/06 (#30)
Recap: 06/21/06

Intros: Zhara is wearing a tank top, and Magadan seems angry at Rey for turning his backs on the rudos.

Welcome To The Show Vignette: a

Match 1: Okumura, Tarzan Boy, Terrible, Universo 2000 (c) vs Heavy Metal, Maximo, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero (c)
Arena Coliseo, 06/11/06

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:18
Approx Rating: Setup for the eight way and disagreeable rudos
Other Match Notes: Rey is more pirate-y on his own. He's also got new music I possibly should know. Negro is the second tecnico to enter, and he angers Universo enough to start the beatdown right then and there. Does Metal have new music? I dunno. Terrible stands right in front of the curtain to beat up Maximo as he steps thru. That's not fooling around.

Beatdown. Surprisingly, it's not exclusively Tarzan vs Rey. Tarzan spends much time on Negro, and we watch much of it. Not much else going on till the finishes. Why does Rey have to take a loss here? Eh. Tarzan and Terrible really can't get the double submission they want (double armbar/leg pull thing), so it takes some time. And they get victories over the others as well. We actually see more teamwork in the ten second overhead shot the show after the fall, but then it's time to go to break.

Beatdown continues into fall 2, and now that we're seeing it again, it's boring. Tecnicos all regroup on the outside, which is odd. Rey tries to negotiate peaceful entry to the ring.  Are they going to go one on one? Technically, no, though for more the most part, Universo works over Rey on his own. Universo whips Rey over into rudo corner, and Rey fights them all off to start the comeback. DON'T DO THE 619 REY! Oh, he's just doing the sit on the back. It took forever to set up because people were in the way, but ends up using Tarzan for a springboard (I think, we don't actually get to see.) Heavy's got a quite contrived dropkick into the post spot. It settles down to one one. Maximo backdrops out Tarzan Boy (who walks off in disgust), but is scared of Terrible. He should be - the first they try is a spinning headscissors, and it's horrendous. Thankfully, they just go to the tope. Casas vs Universo/Okumura - rudos get whipped into each other and chopped around. The action becomes hard to follow - they're having bad luck with camera angles and switches, like switching to a shot of Metal just as Negro's getting a pin - but the tecnicos do decisively take the fall. Actually, since Universo's got the pin, Rey's Buca Storm (the move I was calling the Pirate Bomb) on Tarzan is largely irrelevant, but I'm sure he's happy about it. He's still doing the "BUC BUC BUC" gesture. Or whatever the sound's supposed to be.

Interview: Magadan talks to Rey about his tecnico turn. He'd like Tarzan's hair, Ultimo's mask, and Atlantis' mask. I guess Olimpico's in the clear! I thought he should want Loco Max dead too, but c'mon, it's Loco Max.

Third fall starts with everyone in their corners for the first time. Heavy and Tarzan are due to start, but Tarzan wants Rey, and Rye's happy to take him on. Chop battle - ends with Tarzan going to a forearm. Rey's partners urge him to get up, and he does, kipping up from an armdrags. A  run up the corner armdrag is partially aborted and totally not looking good. Spinning headscissors since Tarzan out, and Rey does his dive taunt. Metal in, to the cheers of the women. Maybe they're cheering that way for Universo? NAH. Universo stomps down Metal. Whip, slide under, armdrag for Universo. Metal off the ropes, spinning armdrag for Universo. Universo off the ropes, into a hiptoss and dropkicked thru the ropes. Metal off the ropes, and a thru the ropes dropkick for good measure! Okumura and Negro Cass in, as Terrible checks on his partner. Negro and Okumura exchange chops. Negro wins slightly, and sneaks in a single leg. Negro off the ropes, over, quick stop and a clothesline to Okumura as he pops up. The next sequence if goofy - they don't go along on who gets a headlock, Negro's monkey flip attempt is sort shrugged off. Negro trips up Okumura and goes off the ropes again, landing a spinning DDT. Tags, and Maximo is worried to be facing Terrible again. The crowd gives him confidence - confidence to act like a goof. That he does. He's got wacky armdrags now. Maximo ends up freaking Terrible out with a hand kiss, and as he leaves, Universo cuts off Maximo with hard kicks to stop him form diving. Universo tells Terrible to hold Maximo for a dive, but you know how that goes. Metal and Tarzan in, Tarzan knocking down Metal with chops, and getting annoyed by the HEAVY chant. Metal comes back with a chest slap and a kick of his own. He waits for Tarzan to get up so  he can duck a chop. Off the ropes, shoulderblock, and then a crossbody to take them both out. Metal tries to post Tarzan, but Tarzan throws him in instead. Negro launches onto Tarzan with a silla, and now we need someone in. It's Okumura and Rey. Rey misses a dropkick, and Okumura works him over with chops. Corner whip, reversed, Rey uses a rolling back elbow in, bulldog out. Going up? Bucanero Castigo comes up empty. Okumura on him with an abdominal stretch, which will keep them pauses while Maximo and Universo are back in. Universo is having no problems at all with Maximo, but decides he's going to give him the Black Hammer. Okumura, his own partner, is shocked and lets go of the hold, which allows Rey to break it up with a dropkick. Rey thinks quick and blames Okumura for the dropkick - I don't know if Universo bought it, but he and Okumura certainly start fighting. Rey roots them on. Now Terrible is in, and he's attacking Universo - it's the Capos/Perros stuff. Tarzan comes in and helps Universo, but more importantly, Negro's back in and cradling Universo while he's looking elsewhere. One two three. (5:26) Metal got Okumura the same way, and Terrible and Tarzan are rolling around fighting. The rudos keep fighting among themselves as the tecnicos are awarded the match. Okumura hits Tarzan Boy from behind, and Tarzan's all "wait, why are WE fighting?" The rudo side of CMLL is a confusing place! All settled down now, though Universo has a microphone. He wants a tag match for his hair, Negro wants a different tag match, and Rey gets the bright idea for a cage of death match. Maximo hilariously does not like this idea. He just did this! This is what you get for hanging out in the semi main event!

Vignette: Interview with Universo and Damián about the next match. Since it's supposed to be a Misterioso reward, they totally should've made him the captain and got him to do this.

Match 2: Averno, Mephisto, Ultimo Guerrero (c) vs Damian 666 (c), Misterioso II, Mr. Aguila
Arena Coliseo, 06/11/06

  1. Damian
  2. Ultimo
  3. Ultimo

Winner: Ultimo (2-1)
Match Time: 7:37
Approx Rating: Just okay.
Other Match Notes:
As alluded to above, this is part of Misterioso's (one week) push for winning the Gran Alternativa. Ultimo's team comes out second, him first alone. They don't show the Perros attack on Ultimo as he gets to the ring, but you do get to watch the valets watching it, and it's fun.

Beatdown to start the first fall. Don't look so shocked. Averno & Mephisto don't even get off their robes. Remember when Misterioso was teaming with Averno & Mephisto? Don't, for the rest of this match. Averno gets tired to the bottom rope for a bit. They get to teamwork spots pretty quick (at all is an improvement over the last match), highlighted by four leg drop on Mephisto. (1:27) Averno gets a bunch of corner charges to finish him off. (2:00)

Beatdown continues to the second fall. Misterioso really isn't being spotlighted in anyway in this match; he's just the third guy. Mep takes a triple facebuster, and I thought they were doing a triple dropkick, but nah. Ultimo gets on the apron and is taunted to come in. He mangos to evade and fight for a bit, but is worn down. Corner whip for him, Damián splash is evaded, double clotheslines misses on the other two, but that's jut a set up for a double spear for the Assassins. Comeback is on, though Ultimo quickly takes a knee bump to the floor, and Damian slip and slide splash. The other four mix it up in the ring, with Averno and Mephisto being whipped into each other, but moving out of the way of an assisted high dropkick. Stereo Devil's Wings gets the fall. (2:00)

Third fall is a beatdown the other way, at least to start. Misterioso takes the triple powerbomb. Damian takes corner charges, yelling NOOOOOOO when Ultimo headstands as set up to his corner sit. Mr. Aguila takes a while to sort up, because he's getting a comeback. Yea, backflip over a clothesline and things go back in control of Damian's side. Things settled down for no good reason. Ultimo slides out Damian by his chest, but it is distracted by spotting Mr. Aguila coming in. I wonder why they haven't done more with that rivalry. Ultimo's a busy person, but Mr. Aguila totally isn't. They briefly fight, quick enough for Aguila to kick out Ultimo. Mephisto kicks down Aguila, Misterioso kicks down Mephisto, Averno misses the dropkick on Averno. Misterioso works him over with chest slaps. Whip, reversed, Averno lands a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. His mask is looking quite Rencor Latino-ish of late. Misterioso is dropkicked out, and flattened by Averno's no hands tope con giro. Mr. Aguila up - running plancha on both. Ultimo monkey flips Mephisto into his own tope con giro onto the whole pile. That leaves the captains up, and I don't think they're diving. Damian tries to sneak up on Ultimo with a dropkick and hits the ropes. Ultimo covers him, one two no. Chops by Damian, Corner whip, Ultimo is set up on the top rope and Damian seeks to join him. Bad bad move - 'rana is blocked, and there is the superbomb. One two a million. (3:37) Mr. Aguila was just short of breaking it up.

Averno & Mephisto do the celebratory promo. No mention of the Lizmarks! Yay.
