CMLL GDR - 04/01/06 (#19)
Recapped: 04/02/06
Reoccurring Vignettes
- Outside the Ring questions for Universo
- Monito taunts Magadan and laughs at him. A lot. U have no idea what this is
about, but I'll guess everyone's making fun of Magadan's new bizarre yellow hair
color.
Match 1: Masada, Misterioso II, Okumura (c) vs Satanico, Ultimo Dragon (c), Starman
Arena Coliseo, 03/26/06
Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:24
Approx Rating: Okay. Wacky comedy in falls two and three made it stand out
a little bit.
Other Match Notes: Starman, an early match staple who's made it into
plenty of stellar moment highlights (though is only arguably stellar), is a guy in an
Ultraman outfit. He's higher on the card than usual, filling in for Sagrado.
This is possibly the first match I've seen him in, and he's been around CMLL
cards for the full 4.5 years I've been doing recaps, yet he's found a way to be
on NJPW TV in that time (and apparently not work out well there at all, but
that's another story.) Even Super Comando's made recaps before him! They've
recalled who to spell Misterioso correctly this week! No entrances. Is Tony
Salazar one of the refs? That's odd.
Masada angers the tecnicos, so they walk over to beat him, and the rudos come back in, and we have a short standoff before the refs can clear everything. Masada and Ultimo end up starting, and the takes turns shoving each other in the corner. Masada doesn't break clean, and it leads to a strike battle. Ultimo ends up winning by going for a snap mare, missing on the running kick to the chest when Masada back bends under it, but kicking him in the spine when Masada pops up to celebrate. Masada rolls out, sot hat's that quick. Starman and Misterioso in next, and they start off good, but it doesn't last before the Japanese's rudos decide to rush everyone. Quick path to the beatdown. Masada targets Ultimo Dragon while Starman is cleared out and Satanico is worked over by the other two. Masada comes over to help, and they triple stretch him for a bit. Double elbow drop two. Triple submission pose, and that's it for him. (3:06) Starman gets corner clotheslines from everyone, and then Okumura asks his partners to lad him up on the ropes. Middle rope German suplex again! Do you really need to do that every match? Starman lands right on his head, so perhaps they've learned some trick for landing directly on your head without doing permanent damage. (and perhaps not.) One two three. (3:36) The doctor checks on Starman, as they should. Perhaps his Ultraman helmet helped? I don't think so. Replay of the finish. Break.
We rejoin the second fall, already in progress. Rudos still in beatdown mode, though Satanico tries to fight back. Triple boot for him. Starman comes back in, so I guess he's alive. Corner clothesline, corner clothesline, Okumura goes to all fours so Masada can hit a springboard clothesline, Masada slightly slips in the process but still pulls it off. This creates all sorts of issues for the rudo team, which we'll get back to in a second. Satanico is brought in and worked over in a corner, then whipped to the other for an Okumura clothesline and then a Misterioso clothesline, just like before. Okumura goes to all fours again, but Misterioso shoves him away - he wants to be the springboard this time for whatever reason. They briefly argue, Okumura relents, and then Okumura and Masada argue about who's going to do the clothesline. Misterioso's all "someone GO already before they counter this!", so Okumura whips Masada, Masada jumps onto Misterioso's back - and promptly slips and falls to the mat. That's it for these fools - the tecnicos don't waste the opportunity to beat them up. Ultimo likes giving jumping stomps in the middle of this. We end up with Misterioso, Masada, Satanico and Starman in the ring, with the tecnicos trying to within stand multiple clotheslines. Satanico actually goes down on the second clothesline, but reverses a 'rana into a powerbomb while Starman gets Masada with a bodyscissors rollup one two three. (2:52) Okumura gets surrounded on the outside by Satanico and Ultimo and begs off - and still gets kicked. I think Dragon wanted to crotched Okumura on the post, but aborted before the fact and just shoved him into it. Tecnicos stands triumphant over the rudos, who eventually pull themselves out of the ring to regroup. Replays of the rudos failed teamwork. Break.
We join as Ultimo and Okumura are already going at it. We've gone from middle rope German suplexes to Ultimo stopping short on a Koura drop down, elbow dropping him, and watching as Okumura melodramatically sells it. And then they do it again, but with a boot scrape. Dragon points to this mask. I guess his head is in there. Okumura fires back with chops. Whip, head down too soon, Dragon flips over the backdrop, ducks the clothesline, kick catch - well, first Ultimo Dragon has to bounce on his other leg repeatedly, waiting for Masada to show up - enziguri. Masada shoves his own partner out of the ring, Ultimo catches his kick, Misterioso comes in, Dragon whips Masada's leg into Misterioso, and Misterioso goes down claiming a low blow. Dragon protests to the crowd - I think he's going to win this one. Tags to Okumura and Satanico. Chop fest won by Okumura, only because he goes to the eyes. Okumura fails on a corner charge, Satanico knocks him down for a back elbow for two, Masada breaks it up. Masada holds Satanico for a Okumura chop, and Okumura accidentally hits his partner. Okumura holds Satanico, and Masada less accidentally bots his partner. Satanico clears the ring with a hiptoss and a shoulderblock, and teases a dive, but celebrates instead. Starman in, and whiffing on a dropkick to Misterioso. Misterioso kicks him while he's down. Misterioso yells at the crowd. Whip, reversed, Misterioso over, under, rolling over, celebrating, turning, and running into a hiptoss. Starman off the ropes, rebound armdrags sends Misterioso out, and Starman joins him with a tope! Satanico and Masada in, and Masada manages to knocks down Satanico. Corner whip, reversed, Masada gets his legs up, Satanico pulls him out of the corner into a powerbomb one two three. (2:49) Asai DDT on Okumura one two three. (2:56) Takemura has a LOT of work to do. Replays of the finish and such.
Vignette: Let's talk with the main event rudos. As always, they're confident. Atlantis talks up the Guerrero/Capos alliance. They chat about Magadan behind his back, how rude.
Match 2: Atlantis (c), Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000 vs
Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Lizmark Jr.
Arena Coliseo, 03/26/06
Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:42
Approx Rating: Usual.
Other Match Notes: Entrances. Wagner has the belt. Rudos attack the
moment entrances are over, and the beatdown is on.
Paris start as Ultimo and Lizmark, Universo and Dos, and Wagner and Atlantis (naturally.) Atlantis has a nice blue/black outfit going on, and he and Ultimo end up working together in the ring on Lizmark. Universo's hair is growing back slowly. Universo comes in when they work over Dos Caras Jr. Wagner's taunted while on the apron, and insists on getting some room. He doesn't really get it, and is kicked coming in thru the ropes. Corner clothesline, corner clothesline, corner back elbow for him. Lizmark's back on the apron and he's run into the corner pole. Dos back in, and the rope gets kicked as he comes in. Double crab, with Ultimo grabbing the ropes for a bit more leverage to take him out. (2:24) Lizmark gets slammed, and Universo lands the top rope splash for the winning pin. (3:02) Atlantis brawls with Dr. Wagner back into the crowd for a moment before celebrating the ring with a GdA Huddle. Everyone pose in a corner! Replays. Break.
Rudos are still in control, but it's settled down to the other tecnicos watching on the apron as Ultimo tries to boot Wagner and gets Universo instead. Wagner makes a one man comeback, as Lizmark and Dos pretty much stand and watch. Wagner makes lewd gestures to someone or something we don't see, and Dos apparently makes something of the comeback by running Universo around the building. We see far more of people standing around than people fighting. Maybe someone can start wrestling already? Dos is ready but he can't get anyone to go. Finally we get Universo, and Dos wins a shoving match. Universo kicks him down and stomps him while he's there, which the crowd doesn't dig. Corner whip, Universo misses on a charge, Dos powerslams him on the rebound. Jumping enziguri connects for two, and Ultimo scares him off the corner. Double whip, double clotheslines, misses, Dos leaps over Ultimo and kicks Universo down, before turning and kicking Ultimo down. That was odd. Dos slides out after Universo, and swats him in the back of the head. Lizmark and Atlantis eventually pick it up in the ring. Atlantis takedown Lizmark, Atlantis off the ropes, Lizmark's already kipped back up, Atlantis is surprised. Atlantis tries it again, and again Lizmark kips up - so this time Atlantis clotheslines him. So Lizmark spinaroonie's up. Universo comes into help with loud chest slaps. Whip, double clothesline misses, Lizmark hits a crossbody on both. Armdrag for Atlantis, Universo rammed into Atlantis, and there's the superkick. Ultimo - but Wagner wants a tag. Wagner fired up the crowd fired up for him. Ultimo is kinda weirded out, but knocks Wagner down. Wagner blocks the chest slap and trips Ultimo up. Corner whip, Wagner charges in, but Ultimo drop toe holds him into the middle rope. Ultimo works him over with punches in the corner, but Wagner turns it around for chops. Is that an Eddie Guerrero dance? Wagner doesn't get to do more before Atlantis runs him over with a back elbow. Atlantis is very thrilled about that. Whip, reversed, Wagner tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Snap mare, and Wagner's going after the mask - will he get it? He's being warned, but it's Universo who stops it with a slap to the chest. Universo waves in his partners to help as he works over Wagner, but they don't actually in - maybe he was mocking the crowd? Wagner puts his head down too soon on a whip and gets a hard chop in the back. There's another. Whip, Universo puts his head down too soon and Wagner gets some. Universo stands up swinging, but Wagner escapes it and shoulderblocks him out. Wagner clears Ultimo off the apron, so he has plenty of room for his apron tope con giro! The other four all end up in the ring, the rudos avoiding dropkicks, only for their clotheslines to have no effect. I've seen this, like twenty minutes ago. Lizmark ends up getting in a superkick and a side slam on Atlantis, while Dos presses Ultimo, gently lets him down to his feet, and then superkicks him down. Nearly simultaneous pins - Dos accidentally lifts Ultimo's far shoulder off the mat in the process of pinning him. (6:46) They quickly clip to the third fall.
Universo tries dropkicking Wagner as he comes in to start thee third fall, but starts a bit short. Wagner kicks him while he's down, but Universo battles up from his feet. They exchange leg kicks, and Universo rolls Wagner up in a small package for two. Wagner gets a double armbar cradle for two. Cavernaria! Wagner's not giving quite yet, and eventually breaks the chinlock. Jackknife cover one two no. Wagner's not happy with that count - so he leg kicks the ref! He's lucky to get away with that one. Wagner dropkicks Universo out, but Ultimo and Atlantis are on him before he can do more. Atlantis backs out while Ultimo works over Dos. Corner whip, reversed, there's Dos' corner enziguri. Atlantis tries to help and takes a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Dos barely gets a German suplex on Universo - he had to work for that one. Lizmark in, and he leg kicks Atlantis into a dropkick on Universo, then whips Ultimo into Atlantis. Stunner on Ultimo to send him out to. Dive? No, tag to Wagner. Chant for Wagner again. Universo into oppose him, and run straight into a backdrop. Atlantis in, tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for him. Leg kick to Ultimo. Wagner charges Universo, Universo powerbombs him, rudos clear the tecnicos off the apron, one two three. (2:54) That was sudden and clean. How unusual. Tecnicos are confused how that could've happened.
Magadan talks to Lizmark and Dos. Lizmark makes excuses but Magadan ain't hearing it. Dos comes over to wag his finger.
That's it. In a great moment of bizarreness, they switch back from the USA alt feed to the Mexico normal one a moment too soon, and the program end with a "WWE Entertainment" logo from whatever WWE show was airing in Mexico.
