CMLL GDR - 02/11/06 (#12)
Recapped: 02/19/06

Introduction: Julio is in the town square, Adolfo is - somewhere else, and Leobardo is out in the part with Tania. Leobardo wins! And the Adolfo and Julio appear to give Leobardo a Rayo-like black mariachi hat.

Recurring vignettes throughout the show: we see (and hear) Mistico get dressed to wrestle, and Ultimo Guerrero is the Out Of The Ring guest this week. And valets saying hi, of course.

Match 1: Hombre Sin Nombre, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca (c) vs La Mascara (c), Pantera, Volador Jr.
Arena Mexico, 02/03/06

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:04
Approx Rating: Okay, but editing hurt. Let's not make this a trend.
Other Match Notes: La Mascara has really ill fitting Mexican hip hop. He's got his belt too, so not all is bad. I'm blanking on Volador's song, even though it's surely on my iPod. Pantera brings the his own weird dance music to the collection. This sorta stuff could be the highlight of the show. Misterioso has stolen Averno & Mephisto's evil monk chanting music. Hombre Sin Nombre is also Hombre Sin Video Package. He's so Safari. He spazes out on the way out on the way to the ring just like Safari does. Did. You know.

HSN and Volador to start. They work a full nelson back and forth for a bit. They take it down to the mat for the usual agile spots - they're good together for stretches and then have moments were they don't seem to know each other at all. Mascara and Misterioso in. Tentative - backing each other into the ropes, getting in a strike, and back up. They switch to mat work, Mascara sending Misterioso away with armdrags. Mascara gets the headscissors from the mat before they zero leg trios, and it's a standoff. Tags. Sangre and Pantera use the ropes, with Sangre going a long way on armdrags. Sangre takes an armdrags out to the ramp side of the ring where no one ever dives, so Pantera's dive fake looked bad. The Tecnicos take advantage of his posing to start the beatdown - actually, Sangre recovers on the outside while the other two clear off the tecnicos and beat up Volador. Mascara tries to rally back for his side and fails. HSN grabs Mascara in a camel clutch and tells Misterioso to go up, but Volador recovers, crotches Misterioso and superkicks HSN. Now the rudos could really use Sangre's help, and he's sorta just walking to his corner. Volador gets tossed up to the top rope with Misterioso, and since he's there (and after a fair deal of foot work to get it all good due to a slip), Volador gives him a flipping Rock Bottom off the top rope (one half of the Spanish Fly). Which still is cool. Volador picks that pin up (4:42) and Mascara gets HSN with a bodyscissors rollup (4:45) Sangre plays innocent, and Pantera goes after him like normal, so I guess there's nothing up. (Maybe there was supposed to be a dive there and that would've accounted for them? Who knows.)

Vignette: Adolfo talks to the Porro Tecnico rowdy fans. They're oddly not rowdy here. I think their shirts are sponsored by La Polar, which would explain the bear! Mistico is the greatest.

Sangre's hiding all the way up on the stairs when the second fall starts, and he finds time to check out the card girl on the way back. Card girl loves the camera. In the ring, HSN is briefly working over La Mascara before Mascara stops that. Mascara tries to go for a tapatia, Sangre breaks it up with a sunset flip, only to get dropkicked in his face. Mascara starts hitting the patented CMLL young guy offense on the rudos - spinning headscissors, (rolling) dropkick), extra spiny spinning headscissors - I think that's way in the back of the book. Dive fake, and the tecnicos are waiting for someone to take. Sangre and HSN work on crowd control instead. Sangre back in, and he wants a handshake from Volador. Not going to happen, so Volador gets kicked instead. Sangre takes a spinning headscissors to the floor, Volador does a dive tease with some pointless backflips, and HSN helpfully makes it unpointless by catching him in a waiting and German suplexing him on his head! That was awesome. Rudos decide this is as good a time to do the beatdown has any, though they let Mascara stare from the apron for a while. Pantera's brought in to be worked over first. There's a problem, as they double whip him, and wave him by, and no one actually does anything to Pantera, so he kinda just latches on to Sangre to make it stop. Rudos do talk it over before trying again, which is good. Double back elbow. Continuing the pattern of - accidentally? - not being on the same page, Misterioso and Sangre whip Pantera into the corner HSN is trying to climb, and then it takes a few moments for everyone to figure out what they want to do together. They end up with a very not good Veg-a-matic. They're a little better with Volador, but that's mostly because they just do their move and get out of the way until the end. The end, which truly seems like the end for Volador, has HSN suplexing him on the floor to the apron, so Volador's doing a headstand on the outside of the ropes, and Sangre dropkicking him down to the floor from there. Mascara is brought in and kicked questionably low. Triple butt bomb (sorta) and double dropkick to him. That's the fall. (4:10)

Beatdown is still on as we return for the third fall. Sangre yanks Pantera around by his mask. CROWD SHOT CLIP. We return to see the tecnicos setting up - Mascara top rope plancha on HSN, Volador Asai Moonsault to Misterioso and Pantera tope on HSN! That was great, but it hurt that it was just shown out of nowhere. Captains back in. Sangre sidesteps a dropkick and chest slaps Pantera some. Whip, quick reverse, Reverse Russian legsweep, keeping the leg tried and rolling Sangre over for a bow an Arrow. And that's that. (1:09) That was missing something. Volador's knee is hurting (well duh) but he's helped back into the ring.

Interview: Leobardo talks with the tecnicos in the main event. Heavy points to the rowdy tecnico fans and gets them to chant for him, Mistico says he's going to win, Niebla says the people are going to help them (and Metal interrupts) and Lizmark is very excited to be in this match with these partners. After getting the crowd to chant things at Leobarado, Mistico says his four are the strongest.

Match 2: Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero (c), Universo 2000 vs Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr., Mistico (c), Mr. Niebla
Arena Coliseo, 02/05/06

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:30
Approx Rating: Fun. 83ish.
Other Match Notes: GdA aren't wearing matching gear and Rey comes out separated from his partners, for those looking for the slightest traces of storylines which appear to be ignored on this show. Monito's head is WHITE. Someone got into the bleach. Seems like Mistico gets attacked pre-match and they don't show the attack, only Mistico recovering on the outside with his partners. Seems like we missed the opening whistle too.

Metal and Tarzan start, and Metal gets a chant. Tarzan's annoyed. Heavy out evades Tarzan early, and Tarzan forces him down onto the mat. Tarzan gets the Crossface again but it has little affect. Lots of takedowns, with Metal laying on top for leverage. Dueling hairpulls. Tags to Mistico and Ultimo - yea, no. Ultimo tells him to go tag someone else in. Rey comes in instead. Rey has a lot of female fans today - must be the mesh shirt. Then I realize it's Lizmark they're cheering. Lizmark's kicks stagger Rey quickly. Rey wants out, Universo comes in, Niebla comes in, Universo goes out, Ultimo comes in, Mistico comes in. This is going fast and nowhere. Now Mistico's in and no one else. Universo back in, Niebla back in, Universo complains about this. Ultimo just tells him to ignore the Niebla dance and face. Universo gets all fired up at the crowd for chanting for Niebla. Universo with wild crazy strikes that wipes himself out, and Niebla gets him with the one slap. Handspring elbow - no, Universo is too far away, so Niebla rolls on to his back for a headscissors, but Universo pushes him away. Universo forearms him down and celebrates. Universo puts his head down too soon on the next whip and pays for it. Niebla dropkicks him out - tope! Tarzan and Metal in, Tarzan takes the backdrop to the apron and dropkick to the floor. Metal dives thru the rope with a dropkick to take him out. Lizmark and Rey, and Lizmark gets him with a superkick. Monito is helped to the top rope - top rope splash! So unfair. Lizmark and Monito cover for 3 (5:58) Mistico, tired of waiting, dropkicks Ultimo off the apron, and the chase is on. Its not a high speed chase, so Ultimo finds some Ultimo Guerrero fans he can use as human shields. It works pretty well, much to Mistico's annoyance and Ultimo Guerrero's pleasure. I guess that's a CO, because they're raising arms. (6:34) Replays. Metal's dropkick thru the ropes looks bad on replays, but the crowd that's cheering for him right now can't see it.

Looks like Ultimo is finally going to give in and face Mistico to start the second fall. This time, the chase is the other way, Mistico running from Ultimo. Of course, Mistico loses him in the ropes, doing the 619 and sending Ultimo out. Mistico out, Ultimo in, Mistico springboard 'rana in, Ultimo back out and hiding. Ultimo makes the mistake of getting up, and Mistico's waiting for him with a slingshot headscissors to the floor! Mistico poses while Ultimo tries to figure out what just happened. Tarzan and Lizmark in. Tarzan tries for another pose off, and this one, he's very upset not to win. There are girls way too into Lizmark here. Chest slap exchange. Tarzan cheats and goes to forearms, runs into a big boot, and still gets in a clothesline anyway. There's the spinaroonie. There's the superkick (2). Lizmark says that's it, he's going to pose now. Rey in now, and he wants Metal? Huh. Heavy talking trash. Rey wants quiet and won't get it. Rey pulls down heavy's straps, sets him up, and gives him a chest slap. Heavy comes off the ropes and kicks Rey in the leg. Heavy off the ropes, dropkick to the knee. Whip, reversed, Heavy's handspring elbow is better than Niebla's. Heavy covers, but gets zero as Rey throws him off to the apron. Heavy on the porn, and Rey dropkicks him to the floor. Heavy is all the way on the floor, Rey slides out on his chest after him, turning it into a roll on the floor! That looked neat. Metal charges Rey, and Rey gives him a hiptoss on the ramp. Universo and Niebla in as one ref checks the damage. Chest slaps on Universo are doing their usual thing. Niebla gets in his big slaps and dropkicks Universo down. Step over armbar occupies the other refs, while Ultimo and Mistico fight again. Mistico tries for La Mistica, but Ultimo tosses him off and drops to the mat to sell the low blow. Tarzan and Rey appear to the refs, who didn't see anything but are getting pressured - yes, DQ! (3:29) Tecnicos can't believe it and want him to listen to the crowd, but it's too late now. CLIP

Something happened with the ref, because he's out of the ring now, and the tecnicos are telling him to keep going. Now he's back on the apron, and now Mistico and Ultimo are mixing it up as the others go back to their covers. Ultimo unties Mistico's' mask, this won't be good. Somehow we're in a beatdown, without us really seeing how it started. Ultimo gets Mistico's mask mostly off - he's back to frosted tips. So bad. Tarzan is biting Lizmark on his elbow brace, which is just weird. Ultimo gives Mistico snake eyes. Tarzan's working over Lizmark's heavily taped left elbow.  Now GdA Settle down to work over Niebla - that's kinda a double fallaway slam I've seen elsewhere with Rey adding an elbow drop. Universo dropkicks his rival out. Mistico storms back in, but 1-4 works even less than 1-3. Double hiptoss into a face first powerbomb, and booted out. Lizmark in. Crowd still chanting for Mistico. Lizmark set up on the top rope, Rey grabs him, superplex? Yes, partly because Ultimo sorts powerbombed his partner off (and almost dropped him on his head - I think that was all a surprise to Rey.) Lizmark's done, but they're not covering. Instead, picking him up for a triple boot. Metal in now, and the crowd chants for him. Corner clothesline, corner clothesline, corner clothesline - where's Rey to do his? Oh, he's grabbing Monito. Rey and Ultimo pick him up from either side and use him as a battering ram on Metal! That was brilliant! Ultimo slams Monito for good measure. Mini giant swing! Monito finally is able to protect his friend. Rey and Tarzan look for GdA fans in the crowd while Universo and Ultimo pull Lizmark back in. Double whip, double clothesline misses, Mistico springboard dropkicks them both. Lizmark superkick (3) and the comeback is on. Mistico gets in two superkicks in three seconds, though only one looked good. Metal, Tarzan, Niebla and Rey are in the ring, and the rudos are whipping Metal into his partner. They try it twice, and Tarzan ends up taking a drop to hold into Rey before Metal hits a boosted up dropkick on them both. Sterol topes! The other four come in for a sequence, with Mistico getting a nice plancha on Ultimo, but Universo clotheslining him down. Ultimo gets a clothesline on Lizmark, and whips him into a Universo spinebuster. Universo holds on and turns it to a half crab, so the refs are again tied up while Mistico and Ultimo fight. Ultimo goes for a low blow kick, Mistico deflects it, takes off his mask, and throws it Ultimo. If you ever wanted to see what Mistico really looked like, THIS was the spot for you. He didn't cover up right away, that's for sure. Of course, if the ref is going to believe the other thing without seeing it, he's going to believe Mistico without his mask means Ultimo did something. That's that. DQ (5:27) Rudos protest this consistent injustice. Ultimo talks mask vs mask post match, but uh no.

That's it.
