Ovaciones says the title match went 40 minutes. CMLL.com says it went 45 minutes. It never actually goes 45 minutes. No report from Ocampo. I’m thinking 25-ish minutes during the falls and maybe 40 minutes if you include between falls and entrances and postmatch. Ovaciones said Volador made many errors, which doens’t sound good. CMLL.com is much more positive.

CMLL Lineups are up on their site. Nothing noteworthy.

  1. I hope we get to see the title match, even if there were lots of blown stuff and everyone saying it was not good, there are certain matches that one just has to see even if it is to agreeing…

Averno vs Koslov was said to be 40 minutes, they aired 25, but I think there were at least 2 cuts, if not 3 since every fall seemed to be JIP. This shows that the booking approach is changing in CMLL and now they have to figure out who can have 25+ minutes matches and who is left for the 8 minute sprints… It’s been an awful second half of the year for Volador Jr (with at least three times riding the stretcher), but I’m not sure if Ovaciones said that he was blowing stuff, or he had simply ran out of gas. It being the second scenario, I think they won’t air it since it sounds as if they had to stall in order to give him some breath and then going on into the spots.

  2. There are no luchadors that can do a 45 minute singles match. Well… maybe a few. Ultimo Guerrero, La Parka, Averno… and I’m all out. They just aren’t in the shape since they train to do either three fall six man 10 minute matches(TV) or three fall six man 45 minute matches(non-TV) which are filled with comedy and stalling. To do an actual 45(or even 30) minute SINGLES match is virtually impossible with the current style.

    45 minutes probably meant:
    – Entrances/Intros (10 minutes)
    – First fall (5 minutes)
    – Between fall (2 and a half minutes)
    – Second fall (5 minutes)
    – Between fall (2 and a half minutes)
    – Third fall (10 minutes)
    – Post-match title awarding/money throwing/leaving for the dressing room (10 minutes)

And you have 45 right there but only a 20 minute match that still has lots of stalling.

  3. I think there are some other guys who could go for over 30 minutes but based on some mat wrestling with several restholds…

CMLL TV just aired the Volador/Ultimo Dragon/Mistico vs Averno/Mephisto/Ephesto… it was clipped, they showed replays but not the title match challenge, so I don’t expect that match airing… well, who knows, maybe CMLL TV will start airing the shows with one week delays?

  4. Like last time, the Arena Mexico top 2 matches will probably appear on one of the weekend shows next week.

I’m sure lots of luchadors could go 30 minutes but tbey’d have to have more time to prepare. You can’t just decide to have a 45 minute match and send two guys out there even if they are great workers b/c they’ve only been used to working matches where they only have to do stuff for 6-7 minutes and can rest when others are in the ring. It’s not like the old days when you knew you had to be out there for close to 30 minutes per match and would have multiple exchanges in the ring. Take the match they just aired on TV… Volador Jr.’s night consisted of taking 2 or 3 bumps early on, resting outside till the comeback, doing a dive, then doing one exchange, another dive and his finisher in the third fall. MAYBE 3 minutes of ring time overall.

  5. Agreed, but that’s partly because it’s the worst timing possible to have the big CMLL show on Friday, with most guys having lots of matches ahead for the weekend. There’s also no time to prepare since it is likely the guys get to the show after working with a different set of workers earlier in the day.

I guess that’s why Santito’s match with Aguayo worked, he just used his “local little talent indy guy” template match…

  6. Ah well, if it was full of botches, i could probably just about live with it not airing next week – don’t want my Luchador Of The Year nomination shot down in flames on the evidence of his first 1v1 :)

Would still much rather it aired though!

The thing is, the mistakes and errors mentioned in Ovaciones may have been kayfabed comments, and instead of meaning blown spots, it could have been talking about planned spots with Averno moving out of the way / using his greater experience etc.

Rob – iirc, i think it was only the main event that aired on one of the Coliseo shows for the Arena Mex show on 10/6 when they aired PPV matches. :(

Nothing particularly exciting about next weeks cards. Volador continuing to main event is always welcome, but probably the best thing is Virus in an Arena Mex tercera. The semi looks dreadful

How was the Sangre/La M****ra match Cubs?

** vids are up already folks**
    – Volador/Averno looked fine, and check out the height on misticos springboard plancha!

  7. Holy shit… how did no report even mention that sick finish to the title match? (not gonna describe it incase people – such as myself – hate that sorta thing)

I really hope it airs based on those highlights.

  8. What would have been pretty cool and made for an exciting finish would’ve been if they fought back and forth on the top rope for a minute or so, with Volador trying to hit the Mexican Fly and Averno trying to hit the Devils Wings, with the fans on the edge of their seat knowing whoever won that struggle won the match. Maybe they did, i dunno, but it would really have given it an epic feel

  9. Crowd looked to be going NUTS at that finish so that must have meant the third fall at least built well.

  10. CMLL rents the TV equipment from MVS, the show is moved from Dec 24 to Dec 25, so with a little luck, they won’t be able to tape it or even won’t be considered in the contract so yesterday’s show might be aired… I think that CMLL TV from today did not ran a preview for next week, so I have no idea if they’ll run a year in review.

  11. Last time that CMLL skipped a week to replay PPV matches, they went back to same-week matches the following week, so I don’t see anything changing unless they do a year in review next week and add Averno/Volador or something along those lines.

Or it airs on a FSE/GDR show but don’t hold your breath. :\ I’m doubtful of that…
