Links to people who paid more attention to the show than I did
– a post on Box Y Lucha which quotes an article I can’t track down. At least, among the people the writer sampled, the people going were going because they thought it was top of the line lucha libre, not that actually knew top of the line lucha libre.
– RFC’s results over on Lo Mejor de Lucha Libre
– a fan recap at el martiente, with pictures.
– El Halcon‘s brief recap, though longer than mine.
Reading everything, it sounds like 90% a normal TNA house show – the same sold show they’ve been doing with other promoters in the US, except for an angle where Konnan and Jeff Jarrett ripped AAA and Cibernetico showed up to defend the promotion (that he’s been feuding with for years and years, but that’s how tecnico turns go.) There was an announced return month of May, with the idea of TNA vs Mexico matches at that time. (Don’t believe it happened.)
I think TNA is claiming 5000 people in the 18000 people building, the promoter is quoted as saying “nearing 4000”, and that’s the number other people seem to be going with. It doesn’t really matter to TNA – they got paid a fee regardless of the number of ticket sales (though surely the fee would go up if the building was filled). The real key on if they run another show is how the promoter did, and outside of the quote in the box y lucha article, I haven’t heard about that.
I’m trying to figure out how, if at all, this affects normal lucha libre in Mexico. I’m not sure it does. I don’t think the number is much different than people were expecting, I don’t think it’s going to affect how TNA is pushed in AAA or how CMLL acts.
