11/02: Hurcan, Mistico

Lots of articles on Huracan Ramirez over the last day. It’s one of the top sports stories today in Mexico.
Notimex obit
Axxel spoke about the man who was his father-in-law.
Bobby Lee about him and Huracan leading a locker room rebellion in Panama when the promoter wasn’t paying the workers enough. Bobby Lee is am.com.mx’s go to guy.
Arturo Rivera talks about Daniel Garcia’s unsuccessful fight to own the Huracan Ramirez name.
– La Cronica (republished elsewhere – or maybe this is a republish) has a longer bio on Garcia. Besides the in-ring, Huracan also suggested scripts for his movies, and created a photo magazine.
– Ovaciones credits Huracan with participating in the first luchador vs boxer match, in May of 1963. He won! YAY LUCHA. (Another story says he was just the first hispanic in such a match.)
Esto talks about Hurcan’s rivalaries. They also explain how the gimmick started; it’d be kinda like if there were 5 different Metro’s wrestling at the same time, all pretending there was only one of them who just got around a lot. The comission put a stop to that, and Daniel Garcia was chosen as the one true Huracan.
– Picture of Huracan in the casket. It’s not the only one.

Mistico worked with Heavy Metal at the Qunita Estacion music video taping on Monday. The storyline in the video is Mistico and the female lead falling in love, which Mistico assures can’t happen in real life, because he’s too busy wrestling. (Pictures) I love how Heavy makes sure to say this is not his kind of music. Keeping it real!

Mistico is on the cover of this week’s Super Luchas. That’s a white mask, and it must’ve been quite the angle to build the mask match. On the cover of Luchas 2000, Latin Lover is ripping up a Perros del Mal shirt, so I guess that’s not happening.

Terry 2000 beat Black Terry for his hair in the final of the big AULL cage match. Haven’t seen full results. One of the channels AULL is on has dumped all sports programing. AULL is now airing once on Sundays on another channel.

Psicosis was officially released from WWE yesterday.

AAA (TUE) 10/31 Arena Juba de Reynoa Results [El Dentista]
1) Guerrero del Camino b Rey Patriota
2) Dr. Killer & Black Star b Buffalo & Rockero Boy
3) Dakota & Turok b Panteria del Ring II & Chamaco Ortiz
4) El Dandy & El Yuma b Villano III & Corazon de Barrio
5) Pimpinela Escarlta b Hator [street]
They’re setting up a hair match here.

Random indy show lineup:
indy (SUN) 11/05 La Fe Music Hall Lineup [lomejordeluchalibre]
1) La Pulga, Ricochet vs Corazon Adictio I, Corazon Adictio II
2) Burro & Mini Burro vs Borrico & Mini Hator
3) Angel Negro vs Angel del Amor [FILL JR WELTER]
4) Latin Lover, Hector Garza, Konnan Big, Galactico, Humbero Garza Jr., Black Dragon, Pancho Tequila, Dulce Poly, ? vs Mike Foxx, Brett Barnes, Chris James, Steve DeMarco, Claudia, Rossy

That’s a 9 vs 6 match, so I’m misunderstanding something. The gringos are from Arlington, Texas’ PCW, and showing up elsewhere in Monterrey over the weekend; they claim Hernandez/Mr. Texas as a former member (and Lance Hoyt’s a current regular in the group), so that’s probably the connection.

What interests me more is we’re to believe someone said “My god, our Junior Welterweight division is taking off! We simply must have a brand new belt to capture the excitement, because any one of the five hundred other belts in northern Mexico (alone) will not suffice!” It’s listed as part of a tournament, but I dunno.

Arena Coliseo Monterrey has Latin Lover & Hector Garza teaming (awkward if Garza’s been to the magazine stand!) vs Konan Big & Humberto Garza Jr.

The Nacho Libre Nintendo DS game is not getting good reviews.

How often am I cited in the same post as the Universal Deceleration of Human Rights? Not often enough!

11/02: IWRG results, lineups, Astro Boy

IWRG (THU) 10/26 Arena Naucalpan Results
1) Ave Fenix b Shuriken
2) Black Jaguar b Freelance
This sets up the title match this week.
3) Bacteria, Kid Tiger, Turbo b Black Thunder, Fantasma de la Opera, Macho II
4) Hijo del Diablo, Nitro, Veneno b Astro Boy, Felino, Pantera
Lots of building for the big mask match in both these matches. Nitro is listed as Middleweight Champion – did he win it back from Pentagon Black?
5) Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Misterioso II, Shocker DQ Electroshock, Felino, Negro Casas
They worked a Shocker/Electroshock feud here of something that happened in AAA – which I can’t recall at all. Shocker faked a foul for the win

IWRG (SUN) 10/29 Arena Naucalpan Results
1) Simbolo b Shuriken
2) Rayo Tapaitio I, Rayo Tapaitio II b Comando Mega, Ultra Mega
3) Black Terry, Fantasma de la Opera, Macho II b Free Lance, Rayo Tapatio I, Simbolo
4) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Mascara Purpura b Camorra, Cyborg, Xibalba
5) Marco Corelone b Electro Shock and Negro Casas and Suicida and Fabian el Gtiano and Kenzo Suzuki and Okumura and Veneno [ciber, 14th, higher power]
Elimination Order:
– Veneno (by Fabian)
– Okumura (by Suicida)
– Fabian (by Kenzo)
– Suicida (by Corelone)
– Kenzo (by Negro)
– Electroshock (by Corelone)

This left Negro and Corelone. Marco fouled Negro, Electro came back in and fouled Marco, and the ref ruled a double DQ. The ref then was informed that Electro, not Negro, was the one who fouled Corelone, and changed his mind, just DQing Negro. Corelone takes trophy.

IWRG (THU) 11/02 Arena Naucalpan Lineup
1) Golem vs Shuriken
2) Intrepid, Simbolo vs Black Stone, Comando Mega
3) Luna Magica, Princesa Blanca, Sahori vs La Nazi, La Rebelde, Rosa Negra
4) Freelance vs Black Jaguar [IWRG IC WELTER]
5) Felino vs Hijo del Diablo vs Xibalva vs Fantasma de la Opera vs Macho II vs Nitro vs Fabian el Gitano vs Bacteria vs Sagrado vs Ave Fenix [mask, cage]

This is the annual Castle of Terror match. I’m going to guess Ave Fenix (or Fabian el Gitano.) I’ve got no real feel for this one, except Felino, Diablo, Sagrado and Nitro sure aren’t losing.

IWRG (FRI) 11/03 Lienza Charro de Tlaxcala Lineup
1) Turako vs Paramedico
2) Super Yens, Interpid vs Camorra, Macho II
3) La Parkita, Aguilita Solitaria, Mini Coco Azul vs Mini Mosco, Mini Mascara Ano 200, Mini Universo 2000
4) Coco Rojo, Coco Verde, Coco Blanco vs Cyborg, Xibalva, AK-47
5) Mascara Sagarda, Pantera, Villano III vs Mascara Ano 200 Jr., Enfermero Jr., Veneno

IWRG (SUN) 11/05 Arena Naucalpan Lineup
1) Brazo Jr. vs Sasaki
2) Ave Fenix, Kid Tiger vs Avisman, Comando Mega
3) Bacteria, Freelance, Simbolo vs Camorra, Fantasma de la Opera, Macho II
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Felino, Volador Jr. vs Alex Koslov, Kenzo Suzuki, Marco Corleone
5) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Fabian el Gitano vs Cyborg, Okumura, Veneno

No Arena Neza lineups last week, and no Arena Neza Lineups this week. Dunno what’s with that.

Wild Theory: I was kinda surprised to see Astro Boy actually lose to the CMLL’s opening card infantry man on Tuesday. Meanwhile, IWRG’s updated their site with this week’s cards, which are slightly different from the ones on listed in Box y Lucha earlier this week. Of note, Astro Boy has vanished. Is he getting regimmicked? Putting a Mistico type wrestler in a Groon type look would be quite something.

I’m going to write the IWRG.com webmaster, asking to please thumbnail his pictures, so it stops nearly crashing my computer (unless I adblock ’em, which isn’t as fun.) Let’s see how that one goes.

(More news to come.)
