10/04: Guadalajara, Electroshock

I think Box Y Lucha had the best cover of the 4 this week. Nice time to break away from their usual style. If you look to the left, the ref is wearing Ref Cam goggles.

CMLL (SUN) 10/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Estrella de Jalisco b Fraile de la Muerte
2) Carlo Roggi, Golden b Depredador, Valentin Mayo
3) Conflictus, Super Maquina b El Gallo, Tony Rivera
4) Metro II, Stuka Jr. b Hijo de Pierroth, Toxico
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo de Lizmark, Rayman b Olimpico, Pierroth, Tarzan Boy
6) Rey Bucanero b Ultimo Guerrero [CMLL LH]
Main event was said to be good. Clean finish.

Electroshock may have jumped back to CMLL again. This makes me very sad. I wonder if he’ll face the Guerreros in this debut match again?

There was a broadcast of the CMLL Anniversary show at Arena Queretaro as well.

El Diario has an article about the trademarking the identities of famous Mexicans. They talk to El Hijo del Santo and Blue Demon Jr. about marketing their families’ names.

Satanico’s Manson has a poster Luchas 2000, showing the 1998 CMLL Cibernetico Gym class at the time – guys who were training at the CMLL gym at the time. Lots of people looking much younger. Maybe it’s just the photo, Sangre Azteca looks like he’s on a hunger strike.

Robert’s reviewed the Anniversary show here, but I’m avoiding it. Go to his site and respond there – he’d like it, and I’m attempting to watch it tonight without reading another review first.

  1. This is now really bugging me – did they mirror flip the Black Warrior insert on the Box Y Lucha cover? Is that way the numbers behind him are looking wrong? Did they do this so Warrior would be looking towards Mistico? I can’t look at the cover without staring at those backwards 2s.

    (I think I may have a problem.)

  2. I think it’s a mirror image. Something about the suit/tie Scorpio is wearing in that photo also seems mirrored.

Let’s see if I can name all the people in that Grupo Cibernetico picture:

    Left to right…
TOP: Memo Diaz, Rey Bucanero, Zumbido, ? (Nozawa?), ? (Mazada?), ?, ?, Tony Rivera, ? (making a Hooligan face though), ?, Tajiri, Rayo Tapatio II, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, Negro Casas.
    MIDDLE: Sangre Azteca, Fugaz (Ramstein).
BOTTOM: Furia Guerrera, Rencor Latino (Averno), Ultimo Guerrero, Virus, Astro Rey Jr. (Mephisto), Ultraman Jr. (Starman), La Flecha, Oriental.

Maybe that’s the class of 1997? I have a photo of the class of 1998 in an old magazine and Azteca looks a lot healthier. I should dig that out sometime.

  3. You sure that guy in whitew in the middle is Tony Rivera, Rob? – I thought it looked like Kid Guzman…

What an awesome class of luchadors – you’ll probably never see a group of rookies as talented as that again!

And Flechas old mask was *UGLY*! It was a good move to change to the one he used until he lost it…

  4. The lightning bolts go to the left on I’s mask and to the right on II’s mask.

    Did you buy that?
